Hello all! Im sorry for not logging on for a few days. had a little depression session a few days ago and was feeling pretty low. But the good news is that I think it was just a little monthly friend making me upset (sorry for the over-share!). I'm feeling much better now and the compliments I'm getting on my loose clothes are a real moral booster! Congrats to all of you guys going so well! Shell, you look fantastic! And it's so great to see the clothes sizes coming down and everyone's confidence going way up! Welcome to all the newbies - you've stumbled upon a fantastic group of people who really help when you're down and are always up for advice and support! I'm on day two of puréed and not too sure how it's going. I blitzed up a beautiful tender casserole and some very mushy mashed potatoe and it's going down really well - no pain or reflux or anything! The only thing is that I'm only handling about a quarter of a cup at the moment. I was told it would be between half and one cup but I can only handle about 4 teaspoons! Is this too little? It means I'm going to have to have two Protein shakes to hit my daily Protein target. Bleh! I feel like all I'm doing is eating or drinking all day! Which before would have been standard but now it's a real effort to make sure I'm eating! Sorry for the long post! I'll keep logging on more often now! And just a quick thank you for all of the kind words and support, you guys really helped me through a tough patch and I'm so thankful to have this support system Xo -

I'm having a bit of a meltdown. I haven't been hungry at all since surgery but today is the first time since, that I've wanted to eat something bad. I have a lot of spare time now that I'm off work and not eating. I've been bored a lot today and usually that would've been fixed with a trip to the nearest drive through. The thoughts of my favorite foods are creeping in my head. I really loved getting a big fat greasy meal and just enjoy eating it. So im trying to distract myself with visit to my parents. All they are talking about are the food preparations for his seventieth birthday party, his birthday yum cha tomorrow morning and family dinner tomorrow night. All of which I'm Going to be bored at as I won't be able to eat anything. I know it'll all be worth it in the end and that I should try and think about how good I'll feel down the road. But for now all I can think is that I'm missing out on things I really love. So now I'm crying and depressed and don't know what to do. I know that I needed this surgery but right now, I don't know how to get through this bump. Maybe things will pick up on Wednesday when I can have puréed food. I'm not hungry but I miss eating today. -

Aussie kelloff, have you tried MyFitnessPal? It's super easy to scan or enter in everything you eat or drink and it tells you calories and nutritional breakdowns for each day. I never thought I would end up one of those "freak" calorie counters but I'm addicted! It's funny that I now really care about what's going into my body. By the way if anyone wants to friend me on it you can find me under susiclethemusical Hope you have fun camping! Last time I went I couldn't walk up from fishing without losing my breath and making up an excuse to stop like "wow look at this view!" haha can't wait to go next time! Feeling so fantastic! Congrats kayargh! So happy you're out and recovering my first night in hospital was rough and painful from the gas but I did was I was told by you lovely people and got up and walked around and felt so much better for it! Wishing you a quick recovery!! Xo -

If anyone was wondering the outcome.... Ended up heading to the muscle shop and got the Elite whey Protein Isolate in the rich choc. 1 scoop with about 200ml Water tasted ok and bumps up my protein by 24g and is 117 calories which keeps me well in my 500-700 calorie days. I got a big tub for $30 and the woman serving me was wonderful i told her exacrly what i needed and she helped me find the right one! I also asked about musashi abd she said that it was common because its more readily available - not because its any better. I'm easily making up the rest of my protein with Optifast and the rest. Feeling pretty good still so bazaar that I don't feel hungry! Have to keep reminding myself to have my Breakfast, lunch and dinner! Hope everything went well today kayargh! Have been thinking of ya and sending good thoughts and positive vibes! Xo -

I have Protein questions! I'm sure there are plenty of threads already on here but for the life of me i can't find one that's helping! so I'm almost a week post-op and have been logging everything i eat and am only hitting about 25g protein a day which i know is not enough! Surgeon told me to aim for 50g but I'm finding it really hard! I'm hitting 2L Fluid a day (about 1.5L water). I have one Optifast a day and then a mix of milked down yogurt, fruit and veg juice, chicken broth and up&go. So my questions to you all are: How much protein have you been told to aim for a day? and... what's the best Protein powder to get? I've been googling protein powders but I'm getting very confused! Are they like a powder that you add to Water or milk? or are you supposed to mix it through your food/drink? is there one that doesn't taste gross? Thanks all! -

Just tried to eat a diet vanilla berry jelly which I used to LOVE! It was so sickeningly sweet I only got down 2 bites! How does that happen?! Like how can stomach surgery change how I taste food?? So crazy! -

Woo hooooo! I'm going home! Doc has just allowed free fluids for two weeks yippee! One happy little sleever right now! I'll no doubt be checking back in soon with more questions after I start trying different foods! I was told a minimum of three days in hosp. I seems weird that they would only allow one.. I don't think that's enough time to even test how much Fluid you can handle. Hmm maybe check it out with the hospital again? -

Day 3 in hospital.. Was kind of hoping they'd send me home today but looks like it will be tomorrow at the earliest. Quick question, what were you all drinking post op? I've been trying to get in the litre of Fluid each day but am finding it a bit of a struggle. The jelly is out of the question! Not sure if it's the "sweeter taste buds" or the hospital but it is sickeningly sweet! So am doing a quarter of a cup apple juice and the rest is Water. I like the taste but am scared of drinking too much. I've had three cups over the last three hours. It's not a full feeling but I can definitely feel the fluid in my stomach. How will I know when I've had enough? -

Definitely don't have a last meal the night before! A guy that was meant to Go after me ended up being cut open and then stitched right back up because he'd had chicken the night before. Don't take any risks with it! I had a "last meal" the night before I started pre op. Can't give you too many tips as to what to bring as I'm only on my second night (I was told three to five days in hospital) but I would suggest packing some nice big granny undies! Lol I don't usually wear them but I'm secretly loving them in here! I've also packed my laptop and some movies for if I get bored but I haven't had much time between sleeping and getting up and walking around. -

Hey all, Just checking in! Ended up being pushed back to 11.30 yesterday so was quite groggy all last night. Had a lot of gas pain yesterday but feel ok today. Went for a lap of the ward last night and again this morning which seems to be helping Stomach pains are at about a 3 out of 10 If I'm lying down but seem to just to about a 7 after I move/shower etc. The thing that's killing me the most is the dry mouth! Argh! It is torture! I'm only allowed three to four sips of Water an hour and just wish I could chug down a litre of it!! At this stage I'm feeling kind of nervous.. I keep second guessing my decision. It's silly I know because I know I need it to live a happy life but I'm quite depressed about how my eating will change over the next few months and 7 weeks in particular. Anywho, just thought I'd dump everything in my head on here! Thanks again for the support guys - it makes a huge difference -
