August Sleevers It Is Check In Time!

Date of surgery:8/28/12 Pre weight: 282 Today's weight: 233 What are you eating/how often/ how much? I eat mainly protein like edamame, Gouda cheese, cottage cheese, turkey, good fats like avocado & nuts. Halloween was very hard for me, and I fell off for an entire week. How many calories a day? 600-900 Are you hungry? Sometimes, mostly head hunger. Are you working out? Yes, at least 4x a week. How do you feel physically/ emotionally? Physically I feel on top of the world, emotionally I'm all over the place, but I still love my sleeve.

Help Needed - Eating At Night

Try a protein drink at night. You'll go to bed with something lighter on your stomach, but still feel full.

    High Blood Sugar Levels

Yes, anesthesia can delay or cancel surgery based on your blood glucose on the day of surgery, because of a condition called DKA, which can cause really high blood sugars. Before you get there, your PCP will need to write a letter of medical clearance, and I just don't see that happening with such a high A1c. To be blunt, either you're incredibly mismanaged on the Metformin or you're incredibly non-compliant with diet. If it's the former, your doctor should have tried you on an additional oral hypoglycemic, because Metformin is doing nothing for you. If it's the latter, I understand, and I've been there. Are you on a pre-op diet? If not, start tomorrow. Drink 2 shakes a day, and a low-fat, low-carb meal for dinner, and your numbers will go down. Drink nothing but Water and sugar-free drinks. NO SODA, not even diet. The surgery will take care of the rest. You can do it!
  4. I lost 110 pounds in 10 months on Atkins, Adipex, and psychopathic work-outs at the gym, early am and pm. No one believed that I didn't have surgery either, until they saw how fast I gained it back, then they gossiped even more. You can't win this one, my friend. You're fodder for gossip either way. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

    Frozen Dinner Survey

I buy the pre-cooked fajita strips in the refrigerated aisle. I throw some shredded cheese on 3, and microwave, and they're so good. Very filling. It comes in beef and chicken.

    Single Incision Sleeve In Houston

I had the SILS gastrectomy at the end of August with Dr. Yu. I also had a hiatal hernia repair. With the exception of n/v, the recovery period was minimal. I'll be 10 weeks post-op on Tuesday, and I'm down 50 pounds.
  7. OMG! I have been struggling so much since last week. I'm 2 months out tomorrow, I've stalled again, and all the bad thoughts have invaded. They're saying, "You're not losing weight anyway, go have a few Reece's peanut butter cups, Kit Kats, and Hershey's bars. You have PMS, and it'll make you feel better." I feel sick to my stomach in thinking that I am messing up this opportunity. It's unbelievable how you can fall completely off of the program in such a short amount of time. I'm going to do Little Miss Diva's bootcamp for the next 5 days, and I hope I get out of this funk.

Anyone Else Have A Goal Size?

I'm 5'7" and my goal is 145. That was my size in high school, and I thought I was cute. I was on the drill team, so I basically thought I was the bomb. Too bad my boobies won't be perky like they were back then. :-(
  9. I caved last night. I ate a lot of chocolate, and unbelievably, I got on the scale this morning and I've lost 5 pounds. I am a little sick from all the candy, though.

    Nsv ....

Isn't it great? I wore a 3x set the before surgery, returned to work wearing a 2x set 3 weeks later, and I'm now in a 1x set at 2 months out. I love it!

    Water Makes Me Sick

I'm 2 months out, and I still can't drink a lot of plain water, without feeling nauseous, especially early in the morning. What's weird is that I don't have any problems drinking CL or Powerade Zero during my early workouts.
  12. Go for it!!! If you push it back, you'll only stress about not having taken the earlier date. You can do it!!!!

Advice About New Insurance W/ Open Enrollment

While you're at it, consider a flexible spending account. I had 2 surgeries this year, and only paid a little over $300 total for both, because I used all of my flexible spending on them.

1 Week Post Op - Severe Exhaustion And Rapid Heart Beat

You need to sit up in a chair, no more lying down, unless it's bedtime. Sip something every 15 minutes, and get up and walk around every hour on the hour until bedtime. You've deconditioned your body, and the only way back is with hydration and movement. Mix some G2 with water, or have some Powerade Zero to increase your electrolytes. Depending on what type of work you do, you may not be ready to go back at 2 weeks. Good Luck, and I hope you start feeling better.

    Energy Has Dropped Out

My two biggest contributors to feeling tired has been poor hydration and lack of physical activity. If I stay on top of those two, I feel great.

    Failing This Pre-Op Thing.

I lost 2 pounds on my 3 month medically supervised diet, and I didn't really try to lose those 2. I've lost over 100 pounds twice in my lifetime, so the ability to diet and exercise has never been the problem. The problem is maintaining after I hit goal. I could never do it without the sleeve, so I didn't worry about any pre-op weight loss. Now, I can diet and exercise without starving, and once I hit goal, I don't have to worry about gaining the same 100+ pounds back. You'll be fine. If you've never lost weight on your own before, I would recommend at least tracking your food in MFP and starting some form of a fitness routine, so you won't be so overwhelmed all at once with all of the changes. Good Luck!
