WhoozisAnyway - you say "yummy". Which shakes are you using? The ones I've had are merely tolerable.

Happened to me too. I'm beginning to wonder if the hormone ghrelin might have something to do with it. With the removal of roughly 85% of our stomachs, perhaps the drop in ghrelin alters the way our body interprets smells and tastes. (I'm going to do some digging, and see if I can find an answer.)

Although I really want to give you a silly picture, I'll be serious this time:
Getting "drunk" is not good for anyone, sleeve or no sleeve. Every time you drink, the ethanol is having an effect on your central nervous system. Alcohol diffuses (spreads out) to your body tissues. It also thickens your blood, hence the post-drunkenness headaches.
You are only 5 weeks out. You don't want alcohol entering your stomach that has recently been cut. While I have no fundamental objections to alcohol and before the sleeve was a rare drinker, you being anxious to get drunk is no bueno.
    Dang...that was hard.

so, i started this journey with my preop diet on April 1, 2012. at 5'6" i weighed in at 373. i got my sleeve on june 4, 2012. now, on september 1, i am still only 5'6" but now i weigh in at 258. i decided to Celebrate by sharing a before and after (during, since i'm not at goal yet) photo. my beautiful wife is a non-op, but is so supportive of me that she has lost 54 pounds by eating with me, and excercising with me.
also, to share my favorite nsv so far. i was able to join my cross country running son in a 5k, the second picture is me getting ready to cross the finish line at 49 min 20 seconds.
life is good, just wanted to share.

I think the opposite....I count the calories and not the carbs. I follow two other rules, no starches and a 10 to 1 calorie to Protein grams ratio. In other words, if you eat 800 calories over the course of the day, eat 80g of protein. By doing that my carb intake has stayed moderately low without being at Atkins levels. That's what has been working for me. I know other folks have different approaches.

I would advise against using earplugs. If you quit breathing or your oxygen drops too low the tone is designed to get you to wake up. That's important so you don't, you know...die. Even more important when you're post-anesthesia and on narcotics, which can depress your system.

    Hey All!
Thanks for the support, prayers and well-wishes! I did have to stay in the hospital an additional day due to my inability to keep anything down. I was in a serious state of nausea which depressed the heck out of me. I had other blessings however, like no pain, (until I vomitted), barum swallow test came out excellent, no leaks; and minimum gas pains. If it hadnt been for the nausea and incisions, I would have sworn I did not have surgery! LOL I am glad to be at my parents recouperating and relazing. I am trying to get Jello down, liquids but that part is difficult...but I stay on it. I took a brief walk out today with my sister. In am feeling alot better and on a full road to recovery. Thank you all again and luv, LOVE! GOD BLESS!!

I would like to thank everyone for their support and for this wonderful site! My surgery is in the morning at 10:30 am. I am excited to start the new book, (not chapter), in my life. I am praying GOD will bring me through the surgery with flying colors as well as the healing process post surgery. I believe GOD who provided these weight loss surgical options to treat obesity. I am doing this for me and no one else. I have to take control of my life, (well GOD has control but you know I will be in sub-control, is that a word? LOL). Anyway, LORD willing I will be checking in with you guys possibly tomorrow night or Wednesday. LUV, LOVE and GOD BLESS all of you!!

Got sleeved yesterday! Was not the least bit nervous, just excited. I though I'd get nervous when they wheeled me into the OR, but I was literally out within one minute and then next thing I knew, they were waking me up! Had a bad experience with the anesthesia and was so nauseous. Nothing they tried helped and I started vomiting. NOT fun after belly surgery. Finally, they found the right combo of meds and I was like a new woman. Having some gas pains and just generally exhausted today, but feel so much better. I was released this morning and have been walking, sipping, napping, repeat all day. My belly is so swollen that I look 11 months pregnant, but the Gas-X strips are starting to kick in. All in all, not bad and I am just so happy. I feel like my new life is just waiting for me now!

I am 4 weeks post-op tomorrow and had issues with hypoglycemia pre-op. To be honest my hunger is so different now. Now, I notice that if it has been 2-3 hours since I've eaten I feel that little drop in energy or I start yawning, grinding my jaw etc. I know it is time to eat! When I was first out of surgery for the first week I was afraid to eat or drink because it was uncomfortable. I definitely think my blood sugar was low because my energy was gone. I notice that the days that I start with a Protein shake that prepares me to have a good day. Really as long as you listen to your body and eat every few hours I haven't had any crashes.
I went to a family dinner and bowling night last weekend. I brought a little cooler with turkey meat and cheese in the car and ate twice throughout the night. I have just learned to be prepared and I won't get into trouble.
Best of luck, this is really a journey, but I am thankful I took that first step!

I always had a huge problem with this before surgery. If I would restrict my calories enough to lose weight, my blood sugar would bottom out and I would feel like crap. My doctor told me this would not be a problem after surgery and he was right. I really didn't believe him at first, but there has not been an issue. I try to eat something every 3 hours or so, but also I've cut out all starches and simple sugars. That has helped me tremendously. Without the starches, my insulin levels stay more even, and that helps keep my blood sugar levels even as well.
It helps to always have a healthy snack available. I keep almonds in my truck and I carry string cheese with me when I ride my bike.
