Co-Workers Talking About Me!
O.T.R. sleever replied to Sue Vsg Bariatric's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Let them talk, yes, it's a bit embarrassing to admit that I got fat and didn't have the willpower to fix it myself. Therefore I had to seek assistance. What would be even more embarrassing is to be fat, lack willpower on top of that too prideful or ignorant to do anything about it. -
I must have missed this thread, Did you see me over there? I'm on that one too. I don't really talk much except when it comes to Protein options or when someone posts about the sleeve. There are tons of misconceptions about the sleeve. I actually found it kind of funny in one thread when someone suggested that advice between the sleeve & band should be directed to a surgeon. I posted Dr. Alvarez's video "lapband vs VSG" then watched as the tried their best to make Dr. Alvarez look like a quack. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/155108-band-vs-sleeve/ I'm not suggesting anybody say anything, but this does show you how flawed much of their understanding of the sleeve is.

I'm gonna fo a bit of a different direction than you were looking for, but have you looked into an insulated lunch bag & frees able gel packs? With these you could easily carry refrigerated items. I would even consider asking if there is a freezer at school you could keep a couple gel packs in. Then on long days you could swap them out easily. I know you said you don't "always" have access to a fridge, but do you most of the time?

How Soon Post Op Could You Have Protein Shakes?
O.T.R. sleever replied to AngelBaby's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
If you are able to get all your hydration, I'd start protein immediately. -
Absolutely nothing wrong with a wood floor. (no accidental hairs in the teeth)

Has Anyone Convinced Or Gotten Their Work To Add Bariatric Surgery To The Insurance
O.T.R. sleever replied to cloudsprincess's topic in Insurance & Financing
A tummy tuck is surgery too. WLS is an elective surgery intended to treat a self inflicted ailment. Insurance isn't designed to pay for anything you want, it is supposed to be for necessary accidental or uncontrolable events. I hate to say it, but getting fat doesn't fall into accidental or uncontrolable categories. -
Has Anyone Convinced Or Gotten Their Work To Add Bariatric Surgery To The Insurance
O.T.R. sleever replied to cloudsprincess's topic in Insurance & Financing
Under $200/yr per person? Even then the number sounds a bit low. According to our benefits department the exclusion of elective surgeries equates to anywhere from 35-90 per month per person depending on the plan they choose. And this is from a company with over 4000 employees, I would think that that fact alone gives them better bargaining ability. -

Capt Derel's Gastric Sleeve Surgery Journey
O.T.R. sleever replied to Capt Derel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
O.o you think you could sleep after all that? I'd be too busy barfing. Hope it works for you. -
yup, as Dooter already stated, to gain 3lb of fat in one day your body would have to absorb 10,500 calories and that is over what it burns. I'm pretty sure that's not even possible. I think even if you consumed that much, your body would discard most of it. But to the real reason I'm posting here. There is a group of us here that weighs in on Saturdays. Here is a link if you care to join us. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/28362-super-saturday-weigh-in/

Are There Different Types Of Sleeve Surgeries?
O.T.R. sleever replied to kristikay's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I had the sleeve(VSG) it is quite a bit different than plication. If you'd like to learn more about the Vertical Sleeve you should join Vertical Sleeve Talk, or I'd be happy to answer any questions about it you have. -
Mine only hurt when I twisted wrong or laid on the wrong. The pain ended at about 2-3weeks, and at about 6 weeks I couldn't even feel it anymore.

Sorry, I'm sure you can find a creative way around it that will taste almost as good.

I measure my calories as a ratio to my Protein. I try to keep my total calories = or < 10 times total grams of protein consumed. This works great and is an easy way to balance the foods you eat. For example my Protein shake delivers 20g protein for 100calories. If I drink 2 of these a day I have 40g protein and only 200 calories, but I was allowed 400cal, so I "bank" those 200 calories for later in the day, that way if I want something that doesn't have much protein I have 200calories I can "spend" without breaking my diet.

Due diligence prompted me to google "Thin Mint cookie nutritional information" and I found the cookies alone are 40 calories each so they account for 160-320 calories by themselves.

My story is pretty simple. I'm a health nut, turned fatty, turned health nut. Had my surgery on May 23rd and haven't looked back since. I've spent the last 15years of my life chasing the all mighty dollar and letting my health go to crap. Now I want the old me back, and am determined to get it. I still love money, but now I feel I can find ways of making it that don't destroy me or other people. I'm finding that through my pursuit of money I lost myself, only to find a deeper version of me. Now that I've been morbidly obese, I find myself wanting to help others meet their potential. We have a television show here calked "Extreme Makeover weightloss edition" the trainer on that show is dedicated to helping people that are highly overweight change their lives. Right now my goal is to get back in great shape so that one day I can be him.

Can Anyone Tell Me.......
O.T.R. sleever replied to Jessica89's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Is this a trick question??? The answer is everybody is different, if we are talking about seeing the scale move, most of us see that right away, in fact it kind of creates a scale obsession to see a pound or 2 gone most mornings. However there are many, that are also completely normal, that don't see the scale move or it even moves up for the first week or 2. If you are talking about seeing it in the mirror, this is a whole different story. Unfortunately, a warped self image is all too common amongst us. By the time you notice a difference in the mirror, most likely the change in your body will be so obvious to others that they will think you are playing it down. When I noticed a change in the mirror the first time I said "well, my belly is getting a bit smaller than it was", both my wife & youngest daughter responded saying I was blind, and I was so much smaller, I had to be crazy not to see it. He best thing you can do is take pics and measurements now, and have those to compare to later. You know the old saying, a picture is worth 1000 words. And the tape measure doesn't lie. The scale will drive you crazy though. This is my weight history starting from my surgery date. This is with very minimal exercise. Keep in mind that everyone is different. Guys do tend to lose faster than ladies, high BMI lose faster than low. -
I Started My Period Two Days Before Surgery - Is This Okay?
O.T.R. sleever replied to froma2toa1's topic in The Gals' Room
You will both be fine. I'm guessing that you have been on fairly aggressive pre-op diets? The fat you've been losing the last few weeks is what triggered this, it is completely normal. Just don't be surprised if your cycle becomes very unpredictable for a while. I've seen several cases where ladies have cycles last twice as long as usual or even happen twice in the same month. Your body is getting bombarded with the estrogen being released from fat stores. Hope that helps you. -
Actually whey is the preferred Protein for WLS. unjury is "whey protein isolate", the best form of whey available. It delivers 20g protein in 100 calories. Honestly the protein body builders use is pretty much the same stuff, you just have to learn how to interpret the label. That and really most of us aren't too comfortable walking into a store that caters to thick necks, we tend to feel as though we are looked down upon. I'd also like to add if you find something you think might work & would like someone to interpet the label/ ingredients, I'd be happy to do so.

The Last Few Hours Of The Countdown !
O.T.R. sleever replied to LizInTexas's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow, you sound so normal, a bit more prepared than most of us were, but completely normal. Weekly colonics??? Holy cow, does she have any idea how bad that is for her? Occasionally they are fine, even beneficial. But weekly the will strip your intestines of the bacteria needed to digest food properly. So I guess she is right, defeating your bodies ability to digest food properly will cause you to lose weight. But in an unhealthy fashion. You migh consider suggestin she have a blood test done to ensure she is properly nourished. Well back to you. I'm lookin forward to an update. Don't leave us hanging too long. I'd wish you luck, but you don't need it. Preparation + Opportunity = Luck. You are definately prepared & the opportunity is here. -
Confused Dr In Mexico
O.T.R. sleever replied to nurseghana's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I went to Dr. Ponce de Leon in TJ, Mx. And can say I am completely satisfied. Given the limitations of Almanza vs Garcia, I would have to choose Garcia. -
Are your choices really that limited in the UK? I've been looking for a small business opportunity that allows me to help other people at he same time. I would definately consider opening an online bariatric store to serve the UK.
