How many grams of protein?
O.T.R. sleever replied to Gin1120's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you getting 64oz of liquids daily? If not the answer is you should be getting 0 protein. If the answer is yes, then get in as much as you can without sacrificing hydration. Ultimately if you can pull it off 64oz of hydration & 60g+ of protein is ideal. -
Scared about sugery!
O.T.R. sleever replied to Evolving's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you weren't scared I'd worry. This is a surgery after all. It does have its risks. The big question is do the risks outweigh the benefit? Run an analysis of sorts. Get out a piece of paper, write down every reason you have for getting sleeved, from health issues to inconveniences then write down the risks, and what you view as negatives. Then if you can read both lists and still feel apprehensive, then postpone or cancel the surgery, because you are not ready yet. It is my bet that the rewards far exceed the risks. Otherwise you wouldn't have come this far. -
Why all the different vitamins? Why not just take bariatric multivitamins?
O.T.R. sleever replied to caramelbaby10181's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Bariatric multivitamins are designed & compounded for RNY patients. They need much higher doses because a they have undergone a procedure that creates a malabsorption issue that we do not experience. I am of the opinion that sleeves do not need Bariateic Vitamins. We do need vitamins, but pretty much any will work for us. There is nothing wrong with them, I simply do not believe they are necessary for us. -

Unfortunately, yes, the day will come when you will like food again. For now, enjoy the fact that eating is a chore. Trust me it really is a blessing.

If you are not still in the healing stages, you might try one of these. I love them. It is flavored sparkling Water. The carbonation is very light. They are a bit expensive IMO at $5/six pack or $1 each at Walmart. But a couple a week shouldn't break the bank.

Lots of good recommendations here. Keep in mind though, you are embarking on a lifestyle change. It is quite normal to resist these new healthy drinks. I would challenge you to try and develop your tastes & condition tour stomach to accept the highest quality Proteins I have no disagreement that all shakes mentioned here are acceptable options. But, lets be honest, how many of times can you drink a shake before you are just sick of it? I occasionally do drink premier Protein, mostly out of convenience. But, they are not the best option, good, but not the best. I have several go to Protein Drinks. All of which I needed to adjust to, but all of which I love now. unjury chocolate splendor mixed with unsweetened almond milk. Unjury chicken Soup. I mix it in warm Water then nuke it (keeps it from clumping this way) Syntax nectar fuzzy navel w/ocean spray Cran/Peach on the go packet. Mixed in 24-33oz of cold water. Very light & refreshing. Syntax nectar cherry w/ocean spray Cran/Cherry on the go packet. Mixed in 24-33oz of cold water. Syntax nectar Chocolate Truffle. This is heaven in powdered form. I'll mix it into a small amount of unsweetened soy milk and heat it for some of the best hot cocoa substitute you've ever seen. These are all Whey Protein Isolates. The best protein you can get. And yes, they are a bit hard on the stomach till you get use to them. But, you can always mix less protein into what you are making till you are use to it too.

Dental work while in MX
O.T.R. sleever replied to LaserSkinGirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I've been to Mexico many times for dental work. Depending on what you are having done you can save between 50-75% compared to American dentists. Do your research, and check their reviews. Chances are since you are having it arranged by a coordinator, you'll be paying more than locals will, but you will still save a lot. -
Yes, meal replacement shakes are higher calorie, they are designed to replace the full spectrum of nutrients & many are designed to help one to gain weight. Protein Shakes are designed to delive large amounts of protein in the least amount of calories/carbs.

Band to sleeve revision cost
O.T.R. sleever replied to nanalisa46's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I highly recommend looking into Mexico as an option. Not only because of price, but mostly because of the level of care. If you were to choose one of the top surgeons in Mexico, I am convinced, you would receive superior care to what most American providers give. Maybe I'm a bit partial, but my dad was sleeved Monday, and though I've heard the stories before, I find it unbelievable the way so many American doctors operate. -
Received insurance approval and a surgery date. When can i swim?
O.T.R. sleever replied to Pepper Paul's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on what you mean by "swimming". If you mean casual swimming, cooling off in the pool, then I'm sure you'll be fine. Doing laps or vigorous exercise should wait till you are about 6 weeks or so out. -

O.T.R. sleever replied to mikeross's topic in Food and Nutrition
I rally like Oceanspray on the go packets, and I think the Lipton mango green tea is really good too. -
The straight forward answer is about 6 weeks. That is when the suture line is considered healed.
