  1. Are you having gastric bypass? I was horribly nervous. I thought I was going to die during surgery. I had really worked myself up. Once i came out of recovery, I wondered why I had done that to myself, I didnt think it was bad at all, Not very much pain, I had the gas that killed my chest and back, but the biggest thing that helps that is walking, So I walked as much as I could.

    Sooo many questions!

I was told that anything I eat has to be 5 sugars or under. I read every label. I haven't pushed it, because I don't want to get sick. Didn't your doctor give you a folder with paperwork that suggested drinks and foods? We got a folder that explained everything. But we also had to test before our surgery so we understood everything. I am willing to help you if you have any questions. I just got my surgery Dec. 18th, but I constantly read and am in tons of support groups. When you don't know something, it can be very frustrating. Hang in there and good luck!

    December Dates

That is too bad. Hopefully you get it all worked out. But you are right, healing is number 1.
  5. Oh wow. That would be frustrating. It seems like some people either do really good with the band or they don't. I couldn't get it because I have barretts esoghagus.(spelling) But I am glad we went this route. You have done real well with losing weight so far. Congrats. And at least you are on less medicine than berfore. Hopefully you will be able to get off of it eventually. Keep up the good work. Hope you had a great new year.
  6. Can I ask why you had to have the revision? I have heard alot of people going through this. I can't imagine having two surgeries. But it would be so frustrating if the lapband didn't work. Good luck! You will do great. I had gastric bypass Dec. 18th and I feel great. It wasn't near as hard as I thought.

    Kidney Stones

Kidney stones are the worst. I just got gastric bypass, but I have had kidney stones for the last 12 years. Big ones and small ones, and never passed one. Had to have them shocked, and taken out with surgery. A big pain in the butt. I feel for anyone that has to go through that.

    Well here I go...

It is your choice and yours only. It is a huge decision. I had my gastric bypass on 12/18 and am down 35 pounds. I know for me, it is going to help my health so much better. I was scared, but really worked myself up way to much. It wasn't that hard of a surgery for me. I would do it all again. Hope you get alot of info.
  11. I am Kerri and I am 39 years old. I just want to tell you about my experience so far with gastric bypass. I started a year ago trying to line everything up. I had two pulmonary embolisms which made everything go much slower. I also have a rare vascular birth defect and we weren't sure how it would react to surgery. Needless to say, I had surgery December 18th, 2012. I found out the day before surgery they wanted to put a vena cava filter in me to help with the blood clots in my lungs. I was so scared and another surgery right before this one? I was so thrown off. My highest weight that I know of was 335. But getting on the preop diet for two weeks, I came down to 306. I was amazed at how good that diet worked. I was scared to get gastric bypass. I thought I would die through the surgery. But I have to say, that it wasn't as bad as I thought. I had really been freaking out. But the time had come where it was time. I was a very high risk surgery. My doctor was almost reluctant to do it. So, I went into surgery at 8:00 a.m. and was out around 1:00 p.m. of recovery and to my room. I had lived through surgery! But my doctor had told me that the next 12 to 48 hours were very important. I did have a catheder which made it hard getting on and off my bed. But it was out the next morning. I got out of bed and walked later that evening. And I am going to tell you, the walking was the best thing to get the air out. I am not going to lie, that air hurts. But once I realized that walking was really going to help, I set out to walk as much as I could. 24 hours later I started drinking water and protien drinks. It all went down well. No nausea. I stayed one more night and was out the next morning. I was glad to be at my own home. Since it was the holidays, it was hard to watch everyone else eat. My stomach wasn't hungry, but my head was. And everything I saw looked so good. It was a huge mind game. But with the support of my family, I made it through the eating and holidays. I am now 12 days out and feeling great. I have lived off sugar free popcicles, sugar free jello, broth, protein drinks, water and propel. I have also tried yogurt. It all has set well so far. I am anxious to move to pureed foods, but have to wait to see them first. I will be going over the two weeks because of the new year. I just want you all that are new to this, to realize you can do it. You can get through the preop diet, surgery and through the liquid afterwards. It is what you make of it. I am dying to be healthy and want to make this go as smooth as possible. I am always here for anyone who needs to talk. I had to really talk to alot of people for me to go through with this. I have no regrets. I am very happy so far. This support forum has been great, I hope everyone is doing well and good luck for those of you still needing to go through the surgery. It's a new year almost, and time for us to all make changes.
  12. Sounds like you are doing great. I hope I tolerate the foods to. I think that is what I am most scared about. Thank you for the reply.

    scared to eat!

I had mine the 18th too. I eat popcicles all the time. But I melt each bite in my mouth because I was told that too cold or too hot can hurt your stomach.
  15. I also have to do 2 weeks of liquid type stuff. I am afraid to try some foods. But I notice that doctors are all different. Good luck everyone!!

I am doing well. The best advice was from people telling me to walk off that gas. It was awful and walking was the only thing that helped. I hope everyone is doing good.
  23. Thanks for the positive. I am glad things are going great. I hope mine is like that. Tomorrow morning!
