    Couples Getting The Sleeve Together

I'm the guinea pig apparently since I'm having my surgery next week, and he's waiting to see how I do. Men ... such wussies

    Nsaids

My surgeon tells all his sleeve patients no NSAID's ever again once you've been sleeved - only thing I'm allowed to take is Tylenol.

So, It Has Come To This...go Time!

Here is how I know your surgery will be a rousing success. My mom is coming down on Monday to Georgia to be with me through my surgery, and she lives in Pontiac, MI. So, by that theory, you have an awesome chick nearby who is a caregiver for another pre-op sleever so by that theory of just being in the same city - you'll be just fine since you're in Pontiac! Yes, I'm a big dork. Good luck tomorrow!!

    Too Big For Surgery?

I started at 473 lbs. and my BMI was 73 and my sleeve is scheduled for June 13th. My doctor put me on a 2 week liquid diet but that's the only restrictions he put on my surgery. I would echo the sentiments above in you may want to look at other surgeon options.
  9. Keep in mind your body at some point is going to be confused because all of a sudden, you are dropping weight and it's not used to that. It's going to try and cling to it but it will let go soon enough. It's probably due to the shock to the system - you'll be losing like crazy soon enough, no doubt
  10. My NUT told us that we shouldn't be using fat free anything because they usually compensate with a lot of sugar. I've done low fat cheeses and they melt pretty good.

    Unjury

Three month liquid diet? Yikes. I thought 2 weeks was going to be tough.
  19. I'm not sure it's even possible to answer this question entirely, but it's something I've been wondering about as I approach my surgery date. We've all seen plenty of posts where people say they are in pain, etc ... I'm curious if a comparison can be made. I've had my gall bladder and my appendix removed. Is there anyone out there who has been sleeved that can indicate if the pain you feel after the sleeve is about the same, better, worse than having either of the other 2 surgeries (appendiex or gallbladder for example)? I think it will help my brain if I can compare it to an experience I've already had as I prepare. Thanks.

    Shopping List

One thing that I got that helped me - the 64 oz. Gatorade (low calorie!) With the liquid diet my NUT has me on, I'm allowed 8 oz. of Gatorade and once I got through the first bottle I rinsed it and carried it around with my water requirement for the day. It was an easy visual to know if I'd consumed my 64 oz. or not (and I was a fan of not having to go out and buy a bottle for it).

    Stupid ? I Know

I can't remember where I heard this, but I've heard that 7g of sugar or less is going to be the best to stop the tummy from being nauseous. I would say you could have a little something, but the key word here is little (like a tablespoon or 2).

    Got My Date!

Congrats !! I'm smack dab in the middle of my liquid diet and honestly, it hasn't been as horrible as I thought it would be. The worst part for me is that I've been craving salty type foods -- not even stuff that's bad for me, simple things like canned green beans for example. If I had the liquid diet to do all over again, I would suggest making sure you have a low sodium salty option in there somewhere. I stocked up on SF pudding, SF popsicles, SF jello, Gatorade .... in short, it's all sweet type flavors, so tossing a little low sodium salty one in there helps me a lot.
  25. Sounds like little miss "you can't have gum" might be a little bit envious of you having a surgery that she hasn't had.
