"yes, I Asked For The Side, Not The Large Salad..."

My doctor gave me a little card to keep with me any time I go out to eat that indicates I'm a person who has had surgery and requires small portions or to order from the kiddie menu. I'm only 5 days post-op today so haven't had a chance to take it for a spin, but I'm thinking it may help.
  3. Well I'm home from the hospital, 2 days post-op now and for some odd reason I'm paranoid that I'm doing something wrong. I've had very little pain since I woke up in recovery, only nausea I had was while in recovery. I've also been doing a respectable job of sipping and getting some broth in, along with some Jello and a 1/2 cup of creamy Soup. I've been up and walking pretty well, although I do feel a bit on the weak side. So now I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, especially since I've read so many posts before about how miserable the first few days can be but I'm not experiencing that all. I was also a bit shocked to find that in the hospital, my blood pressure went to normal virtually over night and the hospital hadn't given me anything to control the BP. Can it really stabilize that fast? So, am I nuts here or is something not right? I'm so so so thrilled to finally be on the loser's bench finally though!!

    Discrimination :(

I hope this doesn't offend, but you might want to stop looking for friends on Craigslist - that's usually not a great place to find quality people.
  5. I'm 5 days post-op and feel just like that too - I think it's probably pretty normal. I'm just working on getting my fluids and protein in, walking, doing my breathing exercises and sleeping. The body has a wonderful ability to heal itself, so I think as long as we follow the doctor's instructions, we'll get there.

    Determined But Scared

It certainly can seem like a daunting task to take on, but the more you educate yourself and understand exactly what will happen and what your life will be like after the sleeve, it makes it a heck of a lot easier. These forums are an amazing resource and really helped me get the right mind set of getting ready to go through surgery and a realistic expectation of what happens after.

    Omg Todays The Day!

We'll be waiting for you on the losers bench, good luck!
  9. I think it's also important to note that our bodies are in shock and wondering WTF just happened, so it tries to hang onto everything it can. It'll let go soon enough and weight will just melt. I'm now 5 days post-op and doing my best to avoid even going near a scale until my first check up; it seems to help me to stay away from it for now.
  10. You'll be great and on the losers bench in no time. Make sure they give you pain meds every 4 hours and walk every 4 hours or less. Good luck!!

    Not Having A Last Supper

I think it's okay to have a small indulgence before you hit your pre-op as long as it's in moderation. If you go with a high fat appetizer, meal, dessert, drink ... well personally I couldn't bring myself to go all out and have a full last meal (I ended up having a few bites of a Whopper the day before pre-op liquids, but tossed it), but I don't know that it hurts your chances for surgery drastically. I think it's important to remember, and this is what kept me from cheating during the liquid phase, is that my liver had to be small enough for the surgery and I sure didn't want to have a moment I looked back on with regret if they told me I couldn't do it because my liver hadn't shrunk enough.

    Tomorrow Is The Big Day!

Good luck, you'll do great! If you can't stand the smell of the food, go out for a walk or a drive is my suggestion - eating anything at this point will hurt your surgery chances tomorrow, so better safe than sorry!
  15. My mom came down to stay with me and I would definitely say you need to have someone there for a minimum of 1 week. I am 4 days post-op and I know I couldn't do this solo. You are able to make your liquids and shakes and move about, but it's nice to have someone doing laundry for you, run to the store, take out the trash - essentially running your household while you can't. It's also nice to have someone there just in case something is needed.
  16. What you are feeling is absolutely normal - everyone is scared they won't wake up, but a significant majority of people do. Once they give you the good stuff, you won't have a care in the world. Have faith in yourself and your medical team, you're about to start an exciting new chapter of your life !!! Take it one step at a time - you'll do great.

    What To Eat?

I didn't think we were allowed Excedrin post-op? My doctor told me Tylenol only.

Here's My Story. Can I Get The Sleeve?

There can definitely be the sensation of physical hunger. I woke up this morning just 4 days post-op and my new gogo gadget tummy was angry at me because it was hungry.
  19. Definitely get your hands on the teeny tiny measuring cups they have at the hospital (the kind that you measure medicine in). They mark ounces on the side and they gave me several while I was in the hospital - they've been a huge help, especially when trying to drink my protein shakes. When you are sipping from those, the task doesn't seem as daunting either.

    Just Got The Word.

Congrats, this is going to be an exciting time for you!! One of the biggest things that got me through to the post-op side was visiting these forums and really educating myself on what happens and what to expect - it's a huge tool to use and sure helps calm the nerves.

    Breakfast Troubles

You could do oatmeal (not from the instant packets), light yogurt or even start working on protein shakes and what they are like.

    Oh Dumping Syndrome...

We sure can dump, from what my doctor and NUT told me although I was surprised too. They told me if we get too much concentrated fat or concentrated sugar in our bodies, then we'll find out just what dumping is.

    Wrong Approval Code

I had to have my initial approved changed to the sleeve (I originally thought about band, but came to my senses) and it took about a week to get the change approved - definitely let them know as soon as you can.
