  1. It's a catch 22. I remember feeling so weak, dehydrated and terrible. I had no appetite so I wasn't taking in enough calories and also felt nauseous. I remember contacting my coordinator and she told me I needed the fluids n calories. I sipped the protein chicken broth and protein shakes and felt better within days. I'm a year out now and never regret it. I remember the first two months though were a little difficult.
  2. My taste buds have changed. I know it sounds bad and to each his own but late at night I crave a little salty crunchy stuff like chips. I have a handful and move on instead of beating myself up. I don't worry about my weight. My body lets me know what I need and I've lost 99 lbs so I'm happy.

    June Sleevers! Hows It Going?

Slim, your Jody will stop where it needs to be. I had never exercised after surgery other than a few walks. I always look for higher protein foods to consume thought like chicken, Greek yogurt, eggs and protein shots from Walmart or the grocery store. Some months I would lose 8-10 lbs then I would stall 1-3 months my heaviest was 240 I was 215 pre-op and m now down to 141. My body likes to go between 138-145. I just go with the flow. I did buy some exercise bands to use for my arms and butt which have lost a lot of muscle tone. Here are before and after photos.
  5. Here re some before and after pictures with my hubby. The other pic is with my younger sister I am the gal with the pink bikini.
  6. I shopped at Walmart, Khols and consignment shops. A year ago I was a size 18. Now I'm a size 2-4.

    hair question

I am 1 year post op and I'm still losing hair. I know I don't get enough protein as I struggle to get enough liquids and food in each day. I take biotin daily to help slow down the hair loss but am wondering if its ever going to stop.
  8. HELP! I have been reviewing surgeons and various facilities and now am a little confused. I have looked into A Lighter Me who works with Dr. Lopez and Dr. Garcia. I have been contacted by their coordinator Louise. I also looked at Dr. Almanza and have been contacted by Sandy and then Melissa. On the A Lighter Me website, Melissa is mentioned as a coordinator. Does Melissa work for both surgeons? Also, Almanza is listed as operating out of Jeruselum hospital (which is really a clinic) but Melissa contacted me and signed her email from Mt. Zion. When I checked Mt Zion's website, it is actually Jerusulem hospital. I have also seen past posts where Dr. Almanza operated Emmanuel Hospital. Do you see why I am getting confused? I am just looking for a surgeon who is experienced, has low infection and leak rates, has good reviews and uses a hospital. Can anyone help me sort through this and is Almanza a safe surgeon?

    June Sleevers! Hows It Going?

Hi June sleevers! I was sleeved on 6/25. I am down 56 pounds. I have issues eating now since I'm not hungry and it only takes a few bites to fill up. Kind of a drag and a bother but I love how skinny I am!

    Drinking After Sleeve

I think each person is different. I am 3 months out and have had a glass of wine. I went down ok. I had a few sips of a vodka tonic and found they don't taste like they used to.

    Water ... Water

I am so jealous of all of you who can drink so much Water. I can only get a few drinks before I burp up air. Then I feel full. It's a struggle to get all my food and fluids in. I usually end up getting 32-40oz of water a day. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Husbands

A few months into my marriage my spouse stopped having sex with me. We were together maybe 4-5 times a year this was when I was thinner. I became depressed and ate. Fast forward 8 years. We have had sex Ina year! I'm at our wedding wright and still nothi g. I should have left years ago and now will regardless of being sleeved. We've tried counseling, he's used testosterone, nothing. I'm done. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    I've Got Sleep Apnea!

I had sleep apnea and wore the CPAP mask. After being sleeved and losing 40 pounds, the sleep apnea is gone. My blood pressure also dropped from 135/90 to 94/60 at my last medical visit Sent from my iPhone using VST
  14. You look wonderful! I read about so many people here exercising for an hour or more and feel bad because I don't exercise. I don't have the energy. Sometimes I take walks but that is it. I was sleeved on 6/26 and am down 40 lbs. I lose about two pounds a week lately. I don't tolerate Pasta at all. I love cheese, meat and fish. I'm having such a hard time getting my Fluid in though. 15. I have struggled with "what did I do". My hair is falling out in clumps. I get enough Protein but I'm really struggling with getting enough fluids. Living in Denver with the altitude is tough if you are dehydrated. I usually don't realize how dehydrated I am until I'm dizzy, nauseous and almost pass out. Since losing weight, my blood pressure has dropped to a new low so that doesn't help along with the dehydration. A viscous cycle. I just wish I could drink larger volumes of Fluid again. What Did You Name Your Sleeve?

I named mine Beyonce because I feel oh so sexy! Sent from my iPhone using VST
  17. I'm nine weeks out and I still put a little too much on my plate even though people who are eating with me think I'm hardly eating. I eat until I'm just staring to felled a little full. If I then wait a few minutes, my tummy registers as completely full. This usually ends up being about a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food. Sent from my iPhone using VST
  18. I'm right there with you. My top ten include hair loss, wishing I could sample a bite or two of pasta without feeling so stuffed and sick and tired of explaining to people that I can't eat regular portions.
  19. I don't let the negativity get to me. I just enjoy reading many of the post knowing we are all in this together and many of us are going through the same thing.
  20. I agree with the majority. You still have swelling and won't have much of an appetite. I focused on fluids and was able to get Protein in with Syntrax Protein powder. I'm 8 weeks out an still eat small portions. I sometimes wonder how patients with gastric bypasses are able to stretch their pouches out and gain the weight back. I'm utterly miserable if I eat more than 1/2 cup of food. Sent from my iPhone using VST
  21. Everything in moderation and we all are different. I can eat a few spoonfuls of potatoes and feel ok. I cannot tolerate even a few bites of Pasta or I feel sick. I have a cold treat in the form of Bryers low carb ice cream bars a few times a week and my nutritionist is ok with it. I still get my Protein in and yet will enjoy a small piece of cheese pizza with my family when we go out. I don't feel guilt and neither should any of us. Sent from my iPhone using VST
