  1. 396power, My doctor told me that if I eat things I am not supposed to before the band has a chance to get "seated" it can cause a slip. I cant afford another $15,000 to go in and have it fixed. You have come this far, don't blow it by eating things your not supposed to. It's not worth it. You need to clean out your pantry and get rid of everything or lock it up if you cant control it. Try taking a walk or doing something when you have the urge to eat. Good luck.
  2. I am about 3 weeks post op. I had trouble with dehydration and getting my strength back. My doctor told me to sip Gatorade because it had a little sugar in it. He was more concerned about the dehydration than about me having a little sugar. I have been scared to death of eating in public and pbing. I have not started solid foods yet, still on mushies. I will start solids tomorrow and I plan to eat at home for a while to get used to what I can eat. I would suggest eating creams or mushies (or a slim fast for lunch if you work)when you go out until you get used to what you can tolerate. Good Luck.
  3. Macysgranny, We really are neighbors. I live at 1641 and Helms Trail. I'd love to get together sometime. I go for my two week check up on Wed. I am excited to see how much weight I have lost. I didnt realize you havent been banded yet. What doctor are you using?
  4. Hi everybody! I was banded on 4/9 in Dallas. I am just now starting to get hungry. I am on the cream soup stage for a few more days and then on to mushy foods. I have lost 19 pounds since I started preop and I think that is a great motivation not to cheat. Good luck to everybody!!
  5. Helen C and Macysgranny, I'm your neighbor. I live in Forney.
  6. I am 8 days post op. I feel very good now. I didnt have the shoulder pain, but my chest felt like it had a truck on it. I couldnt breath and in a panic I called my doctor. He told me to drink milk of magnesia. It really got things moving and now the gas is almost gone.
  7. I am 8 days post op. I considered going to Mexico, but decided to pay the extra money and stay close to home. Good luck to you. You will love the decision to have it done.
  8. I am 7 days post op. I didnt even know they were going to put a tube in. I wondered why my throat was sore. Yes they took it out while I was asleep. It went away after about three days. For the headache, my doctor told me to drink Gatorade to get a little bit of sugar. I wasnt hungry at all the first week. I had to force myself to sip on gatorade and apple juice to get in some sugar and calories. Hope this helps. Cheryl S.
  9. Isabelle290, If your insurance denies you, you might want to consider Dr. Kirshenbaum. There is a thread on here somewhere about him. He trys to compete with the prices in Mexico and I have read good things about him. He is in Colorado.
  10. Amwlady- thanks for the post. I am being banded on Monday and am getting nervous. It was good to see you rate your pain. Also, that the surgery went quickly. I am so busy right now trying to make it through my pre-op diet and get my house clean and laundry done that I am not thinking too much about it. My mom is coming to stay with me for a few days. How long do you think it will be before I can drive my kids around and do things around the house? Cheryl s.
  11. Rockn4u, Thanks for the link. I am going to post it on my fridge. I am being banded on Mon. 4/9!!! The pre-op diet really stinks, but I am very excited. Cheryl S.
  12. Ana and Tracy, I am on my 3rd day pre-op also. My surgery is scheduled for 4/9. I am having trouble getting in my calories, because I am already sick of broth. I am living on jello and crystal light. I havent had a protein shake, because I have always heard how gross they are and I don't want to waste my money. Do you know if slim fast is o.k. I have some in my pantry and was thinking about trying one. Cheryl S.
  13. Good Luck to you. I am being banded on 4/9 also. I am a little nervous but excited. Trying to make it throught the preop diet is a little hard. Keep us posted. Cheryl S.
  14. Stacey, I live near Dallas. I was hoping you were from around here. I hope to be having my surgery in a few weeks. I got a call from my doctor today. I am actually have two surgeries at one time. I think I am crazy for doing that but it will save me a lot of money in the long run. My insurance is covering one and while I am already in the operating room under anesthesia, my weight doctor is going to come in and do the band. Good luck to you. What is your surgery date? Keep me posted. Cheryl S.
  15. Have you been to a seminar or consultation? I have not been banded yet, and was a little unsure myself. Yesterday I went to a consultation and when I walked in the waiting room, I was shocked to find about 20 women and men waiting to get fills. I had to wait for almost 2 hours to see the doctor, but this gave me the chance to ask everyone questions. Not one person said they regretted it. One lady had lost 200 hundred pounds. Another one was banded and had just had a baby with the band on. All of them said it is sooo worth it. After talking to the doctor, I feel very good about the decision. I am still a little nervous about what I'll be able to eat and being scared to eat because it might make me spit up, but I think the benefits will far outweigh anything else. All this to say go to a consultation or seminar. Better yet, find a support group and go to one of their meetings and talk to people who are living it. Good luck! Cheryl S.
