  1. Hi there. I am not required to have a sleep apnea test for surgery. Why are some required to have the test? Is it to establish a co-morbidity for insurance? Or is a positive sleep apnea test used to avoid problems it can cause during surgery? I am worried that I have it and that my surgeon should be concerned about it. This concern is just part of my pre-surgery anxiety! Thanks, Shan.

    Leaky Heart Valve

I'm not sure exactly what it's called. Based on my research, I have a classic symptom though--trouble breathing when I lay flat on my back. I just thought it was the extra weight but now I know the reason. Thanks for posting.
  3. Hello sleevers. I had a heart ultrasound today and have a leaky valve and murmur. The tech said it was mild and asked me if I had ever taken fen fen. I did take fen fen for a month in the mid 90s. Does anyone know if leaky valve prevents surgery?
  4. Hi everyone. I am wondering if any of you out there in our community had their sleeve done at a Department of Veterans Affairs facility. If so, could you tell us about your experience? Thanks very much!

News Story In Dfw - Very Sad!

This is so sad! I am so scared about the surgery causing PEs. I was just diagnosed with a small dvt in my calf during a long car trip. After 3 weeks on lovenox and warfarin, the clot is gone. But I am having second thoughts about surgery even though I am sure my weight was a contributing factor. My heart goes out to this mom and her kids.
  6. Hi sleevers. Did anyone use Dr. Armour Forse at Creighton in Omaha?
  7. Hello VSGers. I have about 65-70 lbs to lose. I am tall, so my BMI is 35, and people would probably look at me and think I am overweight, but maybe not morbidly obese. I barely qualify, but insurance is approving. From my reading of posts, this is less than the average amount of excess weight for VSGers. I am 90% sure I'll be having the surgery, but now I am having thoughts that this is too "drastic" for me. I don't really feel that way, but I am concerned. I know I can't lose the weight myself (been there done that through a lifetime). I also see myself getting bigger and bigger if I don't take action now. If you were a low BMI'er like me, could you share your experinence with me? Has it been worth it? Have you gotten too skinny? Has the drastic change with your relationship with food been worth the medical side of this surgery? Thanks for sharing! Shan

    Ivc Filter?

I am sure that is a big relief for you! I do not know yet whether they will offer it to me. I need to do some research. I am still overwhelmed by my diagnosis. How do they remove the filter?

    Blood Clots

Hi Gingersnap. I was just diagnosed with a provoked clot in my calf and surgeon says surgery will be delayed about 3 months. I am happy it is not longer!

    Ivc Filter?

Hi there. Are you talking about the clot catcher filter? I was just diagnosed with a DVT last week and am still pre-surgery. Do you have a DVT?
  11. Hi everyone. I'm in the final approval stages for surgery, and I ended up in the Er today with a small blood clot in calf. How long might this delay surgery? I am so scared of the blood clot and now surgery. It also reminds me of why I want to have surgery.
  12. Hi sleevers. I was wondering if any of you used Medical Tourism Corporation to self pay with Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas, NV? I am very concerned about giving my medical info to this organization even though Dr. Umbach is all over their website, even with a YouTube video. Does anyone have info they can share with me? Thanks, Shannon
