The Milestones Keep Coming!
That is so great! A reading of 118 without meds! Woo hoo!

Wii Fit!!!
I love using Walk It Out for Wii. You walk around an island, collecting points for every step. Then you use the points to buy buildings, tree, etc. to build up the island. It keeps walking from getting boring.

September 10Th
I leave Sept. 2nd. I''m going to focus on the activities and let the food take care of itself (for this one last time). I'm just worried that my blood sugar will go sky-high!

September 10Th
I'm going on a cruise before I get banded also! I start my liquid diet and have my pre-op testing shortly after I get back. I'm not going to worry about food on the cruise. Not that I'm doing a "one last hurrah" pig out...I think I'll just eat normally, and just relax before what is going to be a VERY eventful September.

Insurance Approval
Yes...September 24th. It's beginning to feel real now! I' m excited, motivated, and scared all at the same time. (I'm not scared of the operation, but of this big decision I've made.)

Insurance Approval
My insurance approval (from Empire BCBS) came yesterday! After paperwork was submitted, it took about three weeks. I think the worst part of this whole process so far has been waiting for that approval!

How Did You Decide Your Goal Weight?
I did the same thing. I'm 5'1", so I looked for the point on the bmi chart where I would no longer be overweight. That's somewhere in the 130-135 range. It's not the lowest I've ever been, but I think it's maintainable.

Why I'm Not Telling My Mother In Law
Thanks, everyone, for your support! When my sister became diabetic, she decided not to tell anyone outside of the immediate family. She felt that if people knew, they'd be judging her every time they watched her eat. I'm taking my lead from her. I don't need people telling me horror stories about gastric surgery, or telling me they "know" I could lose the weight without surgery. Or watching me eat and asking, "Are you sure you're allowed to eat that?" If anyone asks how I lost the weight, I'll tell them I am watching what I eat and exercising. After all, that is what we need to do to lose the weight - band or no band.

Why I'm Not Telling My Mother In Law
I just got off the phone with my mother in law. She was telling me about a man in a scooter getting on a bus lift. Then she started with how all the people in wheelchairs are fat, and why don't they just stop eating. She went on like this for a couple of minutes. She would never understand why I need a lap band, and would be very judgmental. Plus, she would blab about my band to all, near and far. (I'm going to keep it private.) How did that woman raise my wonderful, thoughtful, compassionate husband? Thanks for listening. I had to vent about her to someone!

Someone Turn Me On To Best Tasting Protein Shake
Has anyone tried Matrix Mint Cookie?

Liquid Diet
I don't have to start my pre-op diet until September 10th, but I'm taste-testing different shake brands now. I had the Unjury Chocolate Classic this morning. Not bad...I could drink it when necessary.

Seeking...
I'd be interested in this also. I'm not being banded until Sept. 24, but I want to become part of an accountability group or partnership. It would be really helpful!

Muscle Cramps
Are you drinking enough water? Dehydration can also cause leg cramps, and it's been pretty hot all over lately.

I Call My Band "big Ang"".....what Nickname Do U Call Ur Band
I don't have mine yet, but I'm going to call it Gilligan...because it'll be my little buddy!

I Got My Surgery Date
My surgery date is 9-24 also! I'm getting the lapband with plication. I had an ultrasound of my gallbladder last year, when I was admitted to the hospital in severe pain. The sonogram is no big deal--totally painless. (The gallbladder, however, had to come out.)

Shave Womens Stomachs For Surgery?
I haven't been banded yet, but I have had my gallbladder laparoscopically removed last year. My stomach was not shaved.

Anyone On Long Island?
I'm in Floral Park. Not banded yet, but almost done my testing. My doctor is Dr. Geiss.

Lap Band in NYC
Hi Shap! I was at the same seminar. My endocrinologist recommended Dr. Geiss, and everything I've found out about him has been good. I've finished most of my testing and such, and hope to have my file submitted to insurance in early July.

What Little Things Do I Need After Surgery?
Definitely Chapstick! I haven't been banded yet, but I remember how dry my lips were after my laparoscopic gall bladder surgery.

These Stitches Are Ttrying To Kill Me!!
Sorry you're not feeling well! Is the pain from your external stitches or is the plication hurting too?

What Are You Most Looking Forward To?
One of my top "looking forward to" items is NOT having to ride around Disney World on a scooter. I want to be able to walk the parks, just like everyone else. (But I will miss the scooter's basket for carrying things!)

Pizza
Glad to know I might be able to eat pizza. Not that it's a huge thing with me, but... I'm a New Yorker. I know I'll have to give up bagels. But if I had to give up pizza too, I might be expelled from the city!

Rough!! I'm So Sore!!
Hey, Shrcumm, I've using the same surgeon and having Lap Band and Plication too! I'm almost done all the tests and hope to have the surgery in September. I'm really interested in hearing about your experiences.
