  1. Thank you all for your kind words! I originally posted these pictures in December. Now here we are in April... wow where did the time go?!. I am now 6 months out and feel great. I am down 88 pounds with 3 pounds to lose for my goal. I went from a size 20-22 to a size 4-6. I exercise and try really hard to stick to my diet. (I have always loved loved loved bread.. so there are some days I will eat some!) We have to remember that we still need to live and have a wonderful life! I am (still) addicted to the scale and weigh in daily. I don't expect to see a loss like before...but I don't want to see a gain either! When I do see a gain, I know I need more Water and more Protein and exercise. Keeps me on track!! Good luck to the ones I see with surgery dates! My only regret is not doing it sooner! I have had a wonderful time.. if you have any questions please feel free to ask... Or you can private message me! ;)

  2. I agree with bbdoodle! I have not told many people about my surgery either. I am actually only 4 months out but have lost 75 lbs. I was on the smaller end of the spectrum for surgery as well. Its funny we say small.. I was 223 lbs and 5'1. So when I first began this journey and told some close friends what I wanted, they were upset and very negative. I decided at that point this was MY journey and no one else's.

When I get asked how I have lost weight I simply say that I watch calories and exercise. I am not lying. ;) even tho I feel like it! I feel great and can't worry about what others are saying.

    Good luck to you!!

  3. It's starch and carbs and will turn into fat. There is zero nutritional value to popcorn

    - Kaylee Ann ~ Surgerversary 6/11/2012

I'm confused. You eat no starch or carbs? My Dr has strict orders that I must eat a starch at every meal. Said starch is what gives us energy.

Not saying my way is correct, but its correct for me... it is saying that diet plans are different with every Dr. Be positive! We are all here to support each other.

I am able to eat popcorn. However, I need to be careful with huls.

  4. I am also 4 months out today' date=' i started at a tight 24w and 2xl in tops, now i am a size 14/12, and large in tops ...[/quote']

Mizzlaw you are doing great too! We have dropped the same amount of sizes. I have had days even weeks when I was thinking I wasn't losing it fast enough.. but lately I've decided that slowing down with losing is much better for me. One day I lose a lb then the next week nothing... grrr. But when I look at the weight loss in the big picture.. I am OK with my loss! I am 70+ lbs lighter and feel great!!

Have a good day! You are doing awesome!!

  5. I had surgery on Friday, home Saturday, back to work half days Wednesday. Full days Monday. I had taken 2 weeks off but didn't use it. I am one that can not just sit at home. I also have a desk job somewhat.. I was a little sore but I was much worse if I sat around or laid around at home. I had to be standing or walking around or every muscle in me tightened up and made me much worse. Everyone is different! Listen to your body and don't over do it.

  6. Whoa! You have lost so much!! Good for you!! You have to feel great. I look at it as... a loss is a loss!! 2 lbs a week is still awesome! Did you ever do weight watchers? I remember going all week thinking I was starving and the scale would say down .2. Not 2 pounds it would say POINT 2. And the lady would talk about how awesome that was. Omg. I was So frustrated! Haha! No wonder I was such a yo yo! ;)

  7. You are suppose to get at least 800 calories a day or your body goes into starvation mode and will hold onto fat making it slower weight loss

Yikes! I am flunking that part. ;). I eat 3 healthy meals and a snack (usually a Greek yogurt) plus I add Protein powder and milk to my coffee and I am not close to 800. I ave. 500-600 on good days. Before fitness pal record keeping I was probably only eating 300-350 cals! I knew that was probably why I was stalling! Can't believe I functioned on that!! I thought I was eating good too!

Everyone's Dr is different, but I have asked about calorie intake and also Protein intake and of course they are more concerned about protein. But do not have a goal set for me. They strive for 3 balanced meals. Need a veggie/fruit, starch, and protein at every meal. Eating protein 1st. Of course early postop its hard to even eat 400 cals! Or at least it was for me! My dietitians big "no no" was getting in the habit of snacking. I can have a yogurt or milk with added protein (yogurt counts as a liquid according to my dietitian) but not another actual food.

Seems like I should be eating more. But physically can't!

Hopefully in another month or 2 I will be able to add a little more calories to my diet..

  8. I am 3 months postop.. I have lost 64 lbs and went from a size 20 to a 9/10. I feel great! There are days I want to throw the scale away but overall I did this surgery to be healthy! I had a hernia repair and prior to surgery was on all kinds of heartburn meds. For years I suffered from heartburn.. and not just a little! I always had acid in my throat! Ouch! The surgery corrected that immediately! I had no idea I was in that much pain from gerd! So.. the surgery for me not only helped me feel better about myself, I actually am in no more pain and the stomach meds are almost gone. (I still take a prilosec once daily to try to prevent an ulcer) loving this new me!

  9. I know you're not supposed to compare yourself to others, but I am just curious. I am 3 months out and down 64 lbs. (Total including my preop) I am 5'2 and weigh 158 lbs. I have about 30lbs I would still like to lose. My weigh loss has slowed down tremendously! Which I am OK with as long as I still see progress.

I have read most people lose most their weight during the 1st 6 months.. so hopefully I have a few good months left! ;) these last few weeks have been killers!! I have been exercising more so maybe I will tone up and not see it on the scale! (Wishful thinking) However.. I feel great and am happy with my loss so far.

  10. Along these lines...I get stressed out watching people at the grocery store putting all kinds of junk to be bought and then put Diet Coke up there. They r overweight. I want to say let me fix that for you. What are they thinking?

Funny! But I remember ordering at fast food joints.. my giant greasy meal came with a diet coke! . Haha! GROSS!

  11. I have this same issue! From the Midwest so our entertainment always includes dinner.. I have found that I eat fish best. I can eat chicken or beef ( steak is still hard) but I feel full after 2 bites. I love the lunch portion tilapia blackened at red lobster. I can eat close to half of the fish and a few bites of broccoli. I take home the rest for lunch the next day.

  12. It makes me sick to see my husband scarf down greasy cheese burgers' date=' fries, and soda all the time. Its not that I am jealous, I just think about all the grease, carbs, and fat! I think the most sad part is that I was right there with him 3 mo ago! Anyone else feeling this way?

    xo Hilary[/quote']

Funny!! I too am grossed out! I used to go to lunch with the same women daily. One of my coworkers is very very overweight. And it drives me nuts the foods that she orders! 2 double cheeseburgers, large fries, 3 Cookies.. that's a meal at least 3x a week. And then talks about how the Dr raised her diabetic meds. I bite my tongue.. but I couldn't go to lunch and watch her eat like that. So now I bring my lunch and go to the gym. ;) I feel terrible being so negative about what she eats!

  13. I am on St Luke's Barriatric Forum and Obesity Help forum. I just came across this one by accident. I had the RNY on 10/15/12. And feel great n lost a total of 67 lbs so far.

Welcome! I had my surgery 10/12/12 and down 64. I also feel great! This forum is awesome! People have helped me with any questions and have supported me thru this journey. Ask any questions you have!

  14. I bought a fitbit and returned it due to inaccuracy. I' date=' of course, bought the fitbit one thinking it would be better than the cheaper one but nope.

    Gen :-) 12/15/12[/quote']

It was inaccurate with steps you were taking? Or calories? Or everything? I did buy one. And have it tied to my fitness pal account. So far I really like it.. but I hate for it to be inaccurate!
