50Lbs Gone Forever!

Thank you all for your kind words! I originally posted these pictures in December. Now here we are in April... wow where did the time go?!. I am now 6 months out and feel great. I am down 88 pounds with 3 pounds to lose for my goal. I went from a size 20-22 to a size 4-6. I exercise and try really hard to stick to my diet. (I have always loved loved loved bread.. so there are some days I will eat some!) We have to remember that we still need to live and have a wonderful life! I am (still) addicted to the scale and weigh in daily. I don't expect to see a loss like before...but I don't want to see a gain either! When I do see a gain, I know I need more Water and more Protein and exercise. Keeps me on track!! Good luck to the ones I see with surgery dates! My only regret is not doing it sooner! I have had a wonderful time.. if you have any questions please feel free to ask... Or you can private message me!

I have drank decaf coffee since surgery too.. love my coffee in the mornings! I now mix 1 cup of milk w/ 1 scoop of chocolate Protein shake mix with a cup of coffee... one way for me to get 21g of protein in and it tastes like a mocha! Mmmmm...

How did you respond to critics?

I agree with bbdoodle! I have not told many people about my surgery either. I am actually only 4 months out but have lost 75 lbs. I was on the smaller end of the spectrum for surgery as well. Its funny we say small.. I was 223 lbs and 5'1. So when I first began this journey and told some close friends what I wanted, they were upset and very negative. I decided at that point this was MY journey and no one else's. When I get asked how I have lost weight I simply say that I watch calories and exercise. I am not lying. even tho I feel like it! I feel great and can't worry about what others are saying. Good luck to you!!

POPCORN!

I'm confused. You eat no starch or carbs? My Dr has strict orders that I must eat a starch at every meal. Said starch is what gives us energy. Not saying my way is correct, but its correct for me... it is saying that diet plans are different with every Dr. Be positive! We are all here to support each other. I am able to eat popcorn. However, I need to be careful with huls.
7. I have a terrible cold and cough... am I limited to what I can take?

Back to work- WHEN?

I had surgery on Friday, home Saturday, back to work half days Wednesday. Full days Monday. I had taken 2 weeks off but didn't use it. I am one that can not just sit at home. I also have a desk job somewhat.. I was a little sore but I was much worse if I sat around or laid around at home. I had to be standing or walking around or every muscle in me tightened up and made me much worse. Everyone is different! Listen to your body and don't over do it.
11. I know you're not supposed to compare yourself to others, but I am just curious. I am 3 months out and down 64 lbs. (Total including my preop) I am 5'2 and weigh 158 lbs. I have about 30lbs I would still like to lose. My weigh loss has slowed down tremendously! Which I am OK with as long as I still see progress. I have read most people lose most their weight during the 1st 6 months.. so hopefully I have a few good months left! these last few weeks have been killers!! I have been exercising more so maybe I will tone up and not see it on the scale! (Wishful thinking) However.. I feel great and am happy with my loss so far.

When did your weight loss slow down?

Whoa! You have lost so much!! Good for you!! You have to feel great. I look at it as... a loss is a loss!! 2 lbs a week is still awesome! Did you ever do weight watchers? I remember going all week thinking I was starving and the scale would say down .2. Not 2 pounds it would say POINT 2. And the lady would talk about how awesome that was. Omg. I was So frustrated! Haha! No wonder I was such a yo yo!

When did your weight loss slow down?

Yikes! I am flunking that part. . I eat 3 healthy meals and a snack (usually a Greek yogurt) plus I add Protein powder and milk to my coffee and I am not close to 800. I ave. 500-600 on good days. Before fitness pal record keeping I was probably only eating 300-350 cals! I knew that was probably why I was stalling! Can't believe I functioned on that!! I thought I was eating good too! Everyone's Dr is different, but I have asked about calorie intake and also protein intake and of course they are more concerned about protein. But do not have a goal set for me. They strive for 3 balanced meals. Need a veggie/fruit, starch, and protein at every meal. Eating protein 1st. Of course early postop its hard to even eat 400 cals! Or at least it was for me! My dietitians big "no no" was getting in the habit of snacking. I can have a yogurt or milk with added protein (yogurt counts as a liquid according to my dietitian) but not another actual food. Seems like I should be eating more. But physically can't! Hopefully in another month or 2 I will be able to add a little more calories to my diet..

When did your weight loss slow down?

Thank you!! I am just impatient.
19. I am 3 months postop.. I have lost 64 lbs and went from a size 20 to a 9/10. I feel great! There are days I want to throw the scale away but overall I did this surgery to be healthy! I had a hernia repair and prior to surgery was on all kinds of heartburn meds. For years I suffered from heartburn.. and not just a little! I always had acid in my throat! Ouch! The surgery corrected that immediately! I had no idea I was in that much pain from gerd! So.. the surgery for me not only helped me feel better about myself, I actually am in no more pain and the stomach meds are almost gone. (I still take a prilosec once daily to try to prevent an ulcer) loving this new me!

going out 2 eat

I have this same issue! From the Midwest so our entertainment always includes dinner.. I have found that I eat fish best. I can eat chicken or beef ( steak is still hard) but I feel full after 2 bites. I love the lunch portion tilapia blackened at red lobster. I can eat close to half of the fish and a few bites of broccoli. I take home the rest for lunch the next day.

fitbit

Anyone using the fitbit with myfitnesspal? Pros and cons? And I noticed there are a couple different fitbits to choose from.. help!
23. Congrats!! I too was scared and was 2nd guessing my decision. I waited and waited and followed all insurance instructions. I felt like after 6-7 months of preparing myself I still wasn't ready the day surgery came! But it was all nerves. I am so happy and everything has gone so well for me! No regrets! Good luck!
