Good Luck to everyone this week! If this liquid diet is anything like what post op is... I'm throwing away my scale. How can I not eat, drink protein and gain!?! I lost quite a bit at first, but the last 2 days I've gained over a pound. Grrrr! I know you're not supposed to weigh in everyday.. its a challenge for me. 3 more days of liquid protein, one day on clear only.. surgery!

I second guess this surgery every single day! But.. its all because I am scared. Scared of the unknown. Am I going to be able to handle the pain? I think I have prepared myself for the life style changes. (My sister went through this 9 years ago, so I have witnessed the stresses of no food, etc) Then the next minute.. I remember how awesome she felt, how great she feels now, and how many times I went shopping with her for new clothes! I think if she can do it, I can too! I have lost weight from this 2 week diet and I already feel great that I have committed to make this life style change. I am sooooo ready for a new ME! I can't wait to be able to keep up with the kids without my hips and feet hurting or being out of breath, I can't wait to fit into smaller clothes, I can't wait to go camping and boating next summer and not wear a moo moo! And just overall feel better about ourselves!! We all can do this!! Preop, dietitian meeting, and last appt with surgeon on Tuesday, surgery Friday!! Bring it on! Preop weight: 223 CW: 202 Goal: 135 Height 5'1.

It is so awesome to read the post op girl's stories! I am very anxious and they give me hope that I too will be on the losers side very shortly! I have done the liquid diet for 7 days (I can eat 700 cal light dinner) Which I am not hungry for. I think its my nerves and I just want to be skinny. I have my preop appointment, another dietary meeting, and meet wtih the surgeon one last time prior to surgery on tuesday and surgery Friday the 12th. Getting closer and closer!! I am unsure of what they all do for the preop testing??

    Lost!

Hello! I also have wellmark blue cross (of Iowa.) And I know there are several diff plans just in Iowa. I started this journey in april, had my initial consult with the surgeon, my nutritional consult, my psyc evaluation. When I received the eob (estimate of benefits) it was paid out as an out of network provider.. the surgeon was in the wellmark provider group but no longer a "Blue choice" plan provider. CONFUSING! And can't believe no one In their office could have said that during all my visits. I had called bcbs several times and they can not and will not release bariatric requirements. It must go thru your surgeon. (Really makes me crazy) long story short .. I changed surgeons, and couldn't be happier ! This surgeon had everything laid out and has kept me well informed. I did have to have the 6 month supervised diet. Make sure you're comfortable with your surgeons and their staff! If you're not getting the answers you need, maybe you should look into other offices. Ps.. I originally was wanting the "sleeve" after going to this surgeon he told me that with all my stomach problems (caused by gerd) there was no way I was a candidate for that type of weight loss surgery. (Things happen for a reason! ) Keep your chin up! This is a long journey but keep thinking about the long term outcome! I am scheduled for surgery next Friday.

I think it is just nerves too. I am scared of pain and scared of the unknown. I know I can do it.. and can't wait for the results. The old saying "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" is ohh so true!

Good Luck to everyone having surgery soon!! We are almost there. Anyone else nervous and having 2nd thoughts?
  14. Hello all you post-opers! I am scheduled for surgery on Oct 12 and starting to get the presurgery jitters! I'm nervous and anxious and scared and excited.. which I'm sure is normal too. My questions to you are: 1) I know its surgery.. I've never had one! (But I have had 2 kids and labor was painful) but what should I expect? Is the pain manageable? Is it mainly from the gas, incisions, stomach pain? 2) When were you able to go back to a "normal" routine? I have kids that are active in lots of sports and dance etc.. will I be able to take them? 3) I have read people have the "post surgery blues" are you or were you upset you had the surgery? In pain? Lost your best friend (food) feeling? 4) I was put on bed rest with my first child and on very strong meds that kept me to the bed.. so had a folley (so?) Catheter .. it was terrible, and had a terrible experience... so I hated it. Did you all have caths and how long were they kept in? (I know crazy fear..) 5) Now that you've lost weight, what are your friends like? Have they changed? Thanks for your time! Can't wait to be on the losing side with you!

    What To Expect...

Awesome!! Thank you for your replies! I am an on-the-go kinda person. I do have a tolerance for pain, but I'm also afraid of it. obviously no one likes it! I am hoping to bounce back like you!

    October Surgery Dates

I have talked to a few people about "wanting" this surgery early on and got a lot of " you don't need it" comments. So I quit talking. I've told my husband, mom, boss at work ( not real supportive) and 1 good friend about my surgery date. (Oct. 12). I am doing this for myself, and not for any of those negative nellies. I too am scared! I'm mostly scared of pain or complications. But I do know WE CAN DO IT.. AND IT'S SO SO CLOSE!!! . We've made a giant decision just by walking in to the surgeons office. I started in my 6 month diet in April, it's been a long wait! I am short so of course every pound shows! Started at 223, now 202. I would like to be 130ish, but that changes too. Lol. I just want to feel better about myself, walk without being out of breath, and keep up with my kids! We do a lot of boating and camping in the summer and can't wait to actually feel ok in a swimming suit without the moo moo covering it. Good luck to all of the upcoming October surgeries!!

I am still anxiously waiting for the surgical office to call me... I hate that I left messages with no response. don't they know I am too excited and anxious to keep waiting. LOL! I had the insurance coordinator call friday telling me I was approved, and she would have a nurse call me to schedule. I called this morning and gave them my work number so I wouldn't miss their call... no call back yet.. and they close in 40 min. GRRRR.

Hahah!! I was thinking the same thing!! No elastic anything! I want to be comfortable and be able to SEE my belt. I'm to self conscious to tuck in my shirt anymore. I am 5'1 and want to be around 130. I remember being on weight watchers in 2000- I got down to 145 an was happy with that but why not give myself a few extra pounds for a goal! We went to the beach then and i actually wasnt embarrassed to wear a suit. I would love to wear a simple tshirt and cute jeans with a belt with no belly or huge muffin top. I know I need to exercise exercise exercise!! I can't wait just to feel better!! Can't stand that im out of breathe by walking up And down a few stairs. My list could go on and on and on... Im ready for the challenge!!

    Approved!

My final weigh in was sept 6th with my primary dr. The Surgeon office faxed paperwork sept 10th, I received an email sept 11th and final approval letter in mailbox Friday! Was a very quick approval process! For everyone doing the 6 month diet, I was disappointed having to wait the 6 months because I felt like I was ready in April! But.. These months went very quick and I've done a lot if research, I feel like I'm more prepared. I have quit drinking any drink with carbonation or caffeine. I was a heavy coffee and diet coke drinker and knew I'd go through withdrawal. I didn't want to go through caffeine withdrawal after surgery. I do still drink decaf hot tea, and lots of water! Anyway...I'm super excited, nervous, and anxious all at once!
