5 Days Post Op And Starving

I'm on Day Seven and I feel your pain! I went through that, too, and today my hunger was magically gone. I've got heartburn like crazy, so I suspect that Darla's point about an acid reducer is a good one. It's totally normal, though.
  3. OMG, seriously! The number of times I've felt thirsty, taken a big slurp of liquid to quench my thirst, realized how much that HUGE swallow was going to hurt going down, then spit the whole mouthful back into the cup..... it's like re-learning how to breathe.

    I Will Get Through This?!

My surgery nurse was a sleeve veteran and she commented to me that she had been on diets all her life and never lost weight like she did with the sleeve: in chunks. She cautioned me not to expect week-by-week loss and to concentrate more on the marathon. We've committed ourselves to a looooooong-term diet. Worrying about how much is gone after 6 weeks or 6 months takes away our strength in the journey.
  5. My surgeon is okay with up to 10 chewable Tums per day. That's in addition to the 20 mg of Pepcid I'm taking twice a day.

    Personal Trainer Cost

My husband works out with a trainer once a month and gets a new plan for the next month each time. That's $75 a session. I used to work out twice a week with a trainer and that was $50 a session. So, there's a huge range of options. I would highly recommend going to a well-known chain and having a free consultation. They can give you a LOT of choices. Be honest about your budget.

    Puree's And Mushy Stages

Just had a nutrition class tonight and baby food was mentioned! You'll have to check the label for additives, though. My surgeon also allows toasted bread or crackers for the mushies.

    5% of 1%?

I had this same thought! Living deep in the heart of Texas, I keep my athiesm pretty quiet. For a long time I couldn't figure out why believers seemed so MAD at me for my non-beliefs. Then a pastor friend explained to me that many Christians feel threatened by Athiests because Faith survives in groups. That's a lovely explanation, but the other day a gal I work with said she could never vote for an athiest President because then "he would have no morals". *sigh* Yes, I keep forgetting if I should or should not murder people. Which one is it, again? Ethics are so confusing without some type of manual...... All the same, I would LOVE to convince myself to believe in God. The comfort some people get through prayer must be absolutely wonderful. A friend from college lost 40 pounds and kept it off through that Christian prayer diet book! I'm glad y'all are here.
  9. I had a surgery date of May 29th, but my family is so concerned about the surgery that I agreed to try one last diet (Blood Sugar Solution) before I went through with it. The thing my family keeps telling me is that they have talked to other sleevers and that I will *never* be able to "sit down for a regular meal with my family again". Okay, I get that from a portion-size perspective. Duh. I get that I won't have the variety of bread and desserts that I'm used to. But my understanding from my surgeon is that one to two years out, I will be able to eat almost anything healthy in smaller portions. If you've been post-op for at least a year, could you share a typical day of meals (including quanitity) with me? If someone sits down at the dinner table with you, is it obvious that you have had surgery because you eat so radically differently from everyone else?
  10. MAY 29th, my friends! I start the pre-op diet a week from today. It DOES seem surreal, but I'm really excited.
  11. Everyone, Words cannot express how grateful I am for your replies. You gave me the resolution I needed to tell my family tonight that I was making a decision for myself. Tomorrow morning, I'm calling my surgeon's office to schedule my surgery again. They tried to talk me out of it, but all of their "reasons" were rooted in fiction: I won't be able to eat normal food again, I could die from malnutrition, that the surgery is untested, etc. I looked across the table at these obese people and thought about how they're concern was more about themselves than me. Thank you, thank you, thank you all.
