    Seriously People?

Kysia, I am SOO with you. 4 weeks out on Monday and only 6 pounds so far. I Find it hard to relate to the "why haven't I lost more than 20 pounds in a month" crowd. Good luck to you! Hopefully we will be updating soon with good news!
  2. LadyIvy, Thanks for the post! This is very encouraging. I am going on week 4 with no loss. Well, technically week 3 since I did lose 6 pounds my first week. In another forum a couple people were telling me that something must be wrong with me but I am only eating about 500-600 calories a day. I am getting in the Protein and the liquids. I keep thinking that it is physiologically impossible to not lose! But somehow I am not. We will see what Monday brings. Good luck to everyone!

    Where are the 50s ???

Hi Queen of Crop, sounds like you might be a gardener like me. My surgery day weight was 219. I lost 10 pounds pre-op. Then the first week I lost 6 nd stalled since. This Monday will be the month anniversay (give or take a a fe days, I was sleeved on April 30th). I think it is more common than you think if you look at some of the posts on here. I was at the doctor last week and he didn't mention it except to say that when I am able to eat more solid food I should lose more. I wasn't that alarmed last week. Then I weighed on Monday and got depressed. I go for my month follow up on Wednesday so if I haven't lost anything by then I am sure we will discuss it. There is another person on the boards (bless their heart) who is 5 weeks out and has not lost anything! The body is a strange thing. I guess some people have a better capacity to stop the "starvation" process then others.

    Where are the 50s ???

I was sleeved on 4-30 and am 53. I lost 6 pounds the first week and nothing since then. Very discouraging. I have been going through menopause for the last 1 or 2 years. Hot flashes are very mild though so that is good. I've had vertigo (mild now) since surgery and I wonder if that is hormones. Getting in the protein so that is good. Just getting frustrated right now with a plateau at so early a stage. Good luck fellow 50's!
  5. OMG!! And I was complaining about my 2 1/2 week stall! That really is crazy. Because it seems physiologically impossible for you (and me) not to lose on so few calories. I was expecting a stall at some point also but did not expect one this soon like you. Good luck and hang in there! Let us know what happens. I will definitely be interested in an update.

    ~April Sleevers~

I'll give you more! I am almost 4 weeks out and have only lost 6 pounds so it could be a lot worse.

    Not Loosing Wieght

Wheetsin, Really? Even mild dehydration? Because the first night I got a headache happened to be a day I had cried a lot. My only day of crying really. It was the first week and hormones you know.. Anyway, I thought because (excuse the TMI) that since my urine was not bright yellow that it wasn't the fluids. But maybe later on during the night the crying caught up with me. I will pay closer attention and see if this is a pattern. Thanks! And thanks everyone else who said it may be the fluids. I hope it is as simple as that..

    The Mini Me :d

Thanks!! I am so glad I asked. I would never have figured that out.

    The Mini Me :d

Ok, I've been trying to figure this out for 2 weeks but I just can't can't. What the hell is an NSV?? LOL

    Not Loosing Wieght

PrissyMz, So you have headaches also? Are they different from headaches you've had in the past? I get migraines sometimes but this is different. I think I am doing ok with liquids. We are having a storm coming in tonight and the low pressure that began last night might be to blame, I am trying to figure out what causes them. Then seem to come on overnight so it doesn't seem likely that it is caused by stress. Anyway, it got better but returned about 2pm. I have ended up taking my liquid pain meds from surgery this evening. It is helping a little but not much. Hope yours gets better and congrats on your great weight loss and the walking. I've been a slug lately. LOL

    Not Loosing Wieght

I am soo with you! I was sleeved on April 30th and lost 6 pounds the first week. I thought "great!" that's an awesome start. Then the next week nothing and the next week nothing... I have given advice to others about how the weight will come off and everyone has plateaus, etc. But after weighing in on Monday and seeing another week at the same weight I am also very discouraged. I would love to hear if any other folks had the same experience and if they lost good later. My fear is that next Monday I will down a pound or something and will lose 5 or 6 pounds a month which I could do on my own and eat some better things. Not feeling like like positive self today for sure. I keep having headaches every other day that are really getting on my nerves also. I'd kill for an Advil. I am sure when some other folks respond you will get some good reports and we will both get some encouragement. I am glad to hear I am not alone. You hang in there!!
  12. BigKim, I think 28 pounds in a little over a month is awesome! It's 3 weeks for me and I have lost 6 pounds. I was warned that there will be plateaus just like your average dieter. But it is still going to come off faster in the long run. Camarillo CA, I heard that you actually will lose more if you take in more calories not less (I mean within reason:) since too few calories causes the body to gointo starvation mode. Maybe you should actually be eating a bit more and moving more. I have a hard time with the moving part myself. I knew I would. But I am working on it.. Good luck all! I have to go back to work tomorrow so time to go to bed. I am nervous after being out for 3 weeks...
  13. Sleeved on 4/30 and am on the pureed diet for 2 weeks. Today I had oatmeal for breakfast, protein shake, lunch was a few bites of hummus and cottage cheese, another protein shake and dinner was some tofu. I get full after after 6 or 7 smallbites. Actually I feel kind of full all the time. I have to work to get the protein shakes inbetween my meals so I can get the required protein in. I am able to do it but with the vitamin supplements and meds (anti reflux, anti gallstone, allergy) I actually have to make a schedule to make sure I get everything in. No cheating yet. I am too scared of getting sick so I am doing everything by the book so far. I will be glad when I can have something like a piece of toast though. You really appreciate food when you can only eat certain things.

    Melting Down

I started on eggs 2 weeks post op (I am 3 weeks now) but will not be allowed to eat something as solid as bacon for another 6 weeks! My surgeon takes the diet stages very slow. So I would put my money on the fat in the bacon. Because he did mention something to me about fat not settling well until later. I would try eggs again in a week or so by themselves and see how that goes. How long did you feel that way?

    Slow Weight Loss

iowamom, I know what you mean. I think when we start on harder foods like the cottage cheese it will be just a few bites. You are doing that now though right? My doctor appointment is tomorrow so I will get to eat afterward. I can't really tell when I am full sometimes so I just sort of stop when I think I should. Sometimes though I do get an uncomfortable feeling and I figure this is the sleeve getting full. It's quite strange. I actually get that feeling a lot so I am not very successful drinking enough of the protein drinks I should be. I got them in yesterday but today not so much. I know about the stories though. I just saw 2 that jumped out at me. 23 pounds in a month, 47 pounds in a month. That just isn't going to be me I know. But if I can lose 2 or 3 pounds a week on a consistant basis that is going to rock! Hang in there! I have heard before about people who can drink more than they thought they were supposed to so I don't think you are alone. How is it going with the foods?

    Slow Weight Loss

I had surgery on the 30th also and as of this morning I have lost 6 pounds so I am right where you are. I think sometimes you actually have to take in more calories to lose more weight because the body goes into starvation mode. I go to the doctor this Wednesday and then I will be on the puree diet also. I am SOOOO looking forward to soft cooked eggs, cottage cheese and hummus. I think it will be like a cheeseburger and fries to me after all this liquid! Good luck. I would love to hear how you are doing and compare notes since we had surgery on the same date. How old are you? I am 53 and figured that might have a little to do with things also. Menopause and all that. I am also not quite as big as some folks are when they first start out. I am 213.2 today. Well, good luck! I am SURE the weight will come off for both of us and 3 pounds a week is actually just fine with me. It's faster than I would have lost without the surgery that's for sure.

    Question

PS. If someone is driving you to the appointment you might want to take some of the pain medication beforehand. The drain removal is not painful in the strictest sense of the word but for me at least it was very uncomfortable and icky. Luckily it only last a second or 2.

    Question

I just barely stopped the pain meds a few days ago and I was one week post op on Monday. In my case I had no problem sleeping but actually had a killer headache the day before yesterday and it started to come back yesterday so I took it for that. It's the only pain med I had that was a liquid I could take and this one actually has Tylenol in it so I thought what the heck. I have a huge bottle of the pain medication so I imagine they expect you to possibly need it way more than a week since I still have more than half of it left. Do what you have to do to help your healing process! Hang in there and good luck!
  19. Hello everyone! Well, one week post op and yesterday I got an unpleasant suprise. After being able to tolerate full liquids quite well (although not getting in nearly the amount of protein you are supposed to of course), I had a few spoonfuls of cream of wheat and then a little while later I started sipping a protein drink and all of a sudden I felt this awful flushed feeling like I was going to get sick. I didn't get sick and the feeling passed rather quickly but when I tried another sip sometime later the same thing happened. Since it was Sunday I got the doctor on call who told me to go back to clear liquids. I cried like a baby all day which only resulted in a horendous headache last night. Darn hormones. Anyway, I spoke to my surgeon's assistant this morning and she told me this was normal and some people do experience this even if they tolerated the liquids fine the day before. She said to just keep going very slowly and as long as I am passing gas ( no problem there and not throwing up I should be ok. Today I have experienced the same thing only a little better than yesterday. Probably because I am going so slow. I keep wondering how I am existing on 100 calories or so a day! :0 Anyone else have this issue or anything similar?
  20. Glad to hear you are doing well Nancy. I am doing better food wise. No more of that funny feeling I was getting. Of course I am not getting nearly enough protein but it just can't be helped at this point. My only complaint is my vertigo which came on after the surgery and is hanging in there. Nothing to do but wait it out. I really thought I would have more stomach problems and not head problems. Oh well.. Hopefully it will be gone before I have to go back to work. Keep up your good work! I weighed on Monday (1 week post op) and I had only lost 2 1/2 pounds but I am not really worried about that. I couldn't possibly eat fewer calories and I am sure it will get better. Good for you on your progress. I am looking forward to that back to normal (ish) feeling in the future.
  21. Thanks for the encouragement Nancy. I am doing better today. Hopefully it lasts. Now if I can get rid of this stupid vertigo I will be all set. I have an issue with vertigo and it came on right after surgery and is hanging in there. No spinning thank the Gods but I am very unsteady and can't bend down or to the side. I'll be glad when it goes, if it goes.. How are you doing on your journey through the valley of the sleeve? You had surgery a little over a month ago? Do you feel "back to normal"?
  22. My surgeon has never had a leak either but he does do a leak test. I was glad because it gave me an extra bit of reassurance. On the other hand, it was the nastiest tasting stuff ever! And on the morning after surgery it was pretty much the last thing you want to drink when even water is an issue. I did have a drain which I guess is a good thing also but it sure felt awful coming out. A really icky feeling. I would think you could request a leak test though if you want. Maybe he won't change his actual procedure during the operation by using a drain, but the leak test should be an option if you want one. Can't hurt to ask. Good luck!
  23. Thanks so much for the replies! Mentally I feel a lot better than yesterday. I think I am doing ok on fluids since (sorry if this is tmi) my urine is always either clear or very light in color. I am just taking it very slow. I am going to try some cream of chicken soup for dinner and see if I can get a few spoonfuls of that in. Thanks again!
  24. So glad you are doing well! Good for you! I have a little dog too (Chihuahua) and we are surrounded by hills. I am dreading hearing my doctor say that. LOL Keep up the good work and good for you for the great attitude!
