    slipped band picture

She is perfectly fine now but obviously has no restriction. She opted for removal versus repair. Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? if you need me

An upper GI will give you most of the info you need, but I would probably also recommend a scope and definitely an unfill. Stuff like this happens, that's the great thing about the band you can always start over. Hang in there, Dr. C

    Band in wrong place?

I wouldn't worry too much, the radiologists frequently read these films this way. Even when I know I put the band below the esophagus because I saw it with my very own eyes, sometimes it looks like this on Xray. I stopped getting routine post op barium swallows for this very reason. Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? 8. Crystal, MRSA is everywhere nowadays, it has this reputation that it is some sort of evil monster that will track you down and kill you wherever you are. All it is is staph that is not sensitive to most penicillins. In and of itself it is no more harmful than regular staph, just harder to eradicate if it causes a clinically significant infection. There has actually been no research to show that 6 weeks of vancomycin is any better than 1 week of vancomycin, it's just sort of the standard. The problem is giving you 6 weeks of vancomycin would not kill all the MRSA on your skin, because hardly any antibiotic you give into an IV makes it through and onto the surface of the skin. All I would do with you if you were my patient is give you a pre-op dose of vancmycin. Insurance would not deny you because of this. Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? Dr. C-Advice regarding fill needed

This is common to be much looser as the day progresses. This makes it tough as you really have to watch how you eat and may not be able to get much solid food down until dinner. You might go over to my web site and post a message for my banded dietitian on the forum there, she probably has some good tips. Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? 11. If it truly just came disconnected, you don't even have to replace the port just reconnect the two. That would be cheaper as the port itself costs 5 or 6 hundred bucks. 14. Hey folks, I did my first band-over-bypass today (to my knowledge the first one done in Ohio). It wasn't bad really, took less than an hour. I'll keep you all posted on how she does. On another note, a lot of people have been asking me about how my wife is doing - she has lost 70% of her excess body weight and is feeling great! Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? First band-over-bypass today!

That's correct, it's for patients who have failed RNY that involves putting a Lap Band on their pouch. Here is a picture of it (didn't come out too well unfortunately). Question for Dr. C!!!

Brandy, Sometimes it can be hard to tell if a patient has a leak. If you are consistently losing 1cc or more then I would be worried. Sometimes I think the leaks can be so slow that they don't show on Xray at all. It doesn't surprise me though that you are less restricted with a higher fill amount because your band is in a different position now. Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? We put folks on a Medifast diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery. This functions to reduce visceral fat (fat inside the abdomen) and reduce the size of the liver to make laparscopic surgery easier. Using this regimen I have never had to convert a lap band patient to open, so I think it works! Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? Fill sensitivity for Dr. C

Barbara, My guess is that you either have a hiatal herna (which is very difficult to diagnose in a band patient) or possibly your band could be infected (I have only seen this once but the fevers worry me). Probably the only way to know is to take a look with a laparoscope. Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question?
