    Band intolerance

Hey everyone! Just wanted to see if anyone else has found out they're band intolerant? I've been having really bad bouts of constantly vomiting for awhile, and it has gotten to the point I'm vomiting up white mucus and blood clots. I went to my doctor's office that did the surgery, and they checked the band to see if it slipped, and it hadn't. So then 2 weeks later I had an upper endo by the same doctor. The procedure he said only took 4 minutes, and the band hadn't eroded. So it hasn't slipped, or eroded, however, I have all the symptoms that would make you think so. I can't hold down majority of solids now, and liquids are questionable. My band is completely unfilled at this point. I am working on trying to get an appointment with a gastroenterologist to get their opinion on it. I am really starting to think my body has just rejected it. I have stomach inflammation, and they biopsied a bacteria but didn't tell me what it was. All I got was,"maybe it's your gallbladder, you should get that checked out." I told them to do it when I was in the hospital after the endoscopy just to get it out of the way, but they wouldn't. My band physically hurts, and I don't know what really to do. My symptoms are just getting worse...and revision may be my only option to fix it, but I don't have the money for self-pay and my insurance won't cover bariatric surgery. But if anyone else has had intolerance, it would be nice to get your input. Thank you
  2. I had lapband surgery back in March 2012...the first 18 months I did really well with very little issues. Then they put my band at 5cc, and everything went down hill from there. I had to have Fluid removed because I couldn't hold anything down, and even when fluid was taken out, within a few weeks the same problem came back. Long story short - August 2014, I had to wait over a month to get an appointment, so I went over a month throwing up daily solids, liquids, mushy foods. Nothing stayed down period. So when I finally got in, I asked them to just take the fluid out completely. They got most of it, or so I was told, and my per visit price "doubled" to almost $200. I was fine for about 2 months after, and then I started occassionally having episodes where something wouldn't stay down. Mind you, I gained 10lbs before the fluid came out when I couldn't hold anything down, and then gained 20lbs within 2 weeks after the fluid was removed. So I gained back everything I had lost prior to the whole 5cc fiasco. They called me in October telling me I was overdue for my yearly check up from August, but I don't have $200 for a 10 minute appointment. Now in the last 2 weeks, I am throwing up most things (including liquid) almost daily. Some days it's all day I can't hold anything down, and some days it's hit and miss. Has anyone else had this problem? I shouldn't being repeating last year with an unfilled band. Ironically, the doctor that did my procedure doesn't even offer lapband surgery at his location. Revision surgery is $15,650 for self-pay, and I just don't have any way to come up with it. So it's pretty depressing. I'm trying to get the weight off I gained back unnaturally quick, and it's not budging much, maybe 5lbs. But has anyone else had similiar problems with their band?
  3. So I had my band unfilled in August because I was getting so sick. They took as much as they could out. I've had very little issues for the last 2 months. This week I started having resistance with eating or drinking again and the last 2 days I've gotten sick after trying to eat. Literally eating 2 small bites and it comes up. And now liquid is getting stuck with an unfilled band. Anyone else have this problem? I'm self pay and already know what revision surgery costs :/

    consistently sick

So far I've been able to eat without any issues which is so weird after being sick so long. I'm still feeling tired though :/

Appointment went well. They checked my band and it had not slipped thank goodness. They did a total unfill, there might be maybe 1cc if that left from the 5cc's that had been in it. They said it can happen what I went through even though it looks fine on the screen. The PA mentioned that I may be at the point where I don't need a filled band since it was hindering me from getting enough calories in to match up to my activity level with working out. So fingers crossed my issues are gone and I can get back to the grind

I'm worried it might have slipped but I won't know until today. The doctor is very pleasant and helpful. But self pay isn't cheap. My appointment is this afternoon so hopefully I'll have answers. I know I'm not leaving unless the band is unfilled though.

I usually see his PA. I'm concerned because it could really cause injury :/ I haven't actually seen the doctor since my surgery.

    consistently sick

Hey guys, I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue. I got banded in March 2012 & the first 18mos were fine as far as weightloss, exercise and energy. I started getting sick in Fall 2013 after a fill that took me over 5cc. They took Fluid out and I was alright for about a month or so. By February of this year I was regularly having problems holding solids and liquids down so I wasn't getting my calories in that I needed and plateaued on weightloss. They checked my band and supposedly it wasn't tight and looked "kind of" loose. So they took fluid out and I swear it expanded from the last time (I remember the CC numbers). I was okay for about 2 weeks and it started again and it got very bad. I went a full month getting sick daily. I called for an emergency appointment but they're machine for barium swallow testing was broken so I would have to spend $400 in addition to $89 for an appointment. Since I didn't have that kind of money I just dealt with it. My scheduled appointment is next Tuesday and I am thinking they should probably just unfill the whole thing. I've literally spent the last year getting progressively worse and now I'm eat minimally because most days nothing stays down. My insurance doesn't cover anything bariatrics related so it's all self pay and revision surgery will cost $15650. Anyone else have the constant vomiting and saliva/stomach acid build up? I'm miserable and have no energy because nothing is staying down. I don't eat fast, I chew enough, so it's not that. But I can take 2 small bites of something and have violent vomiting within 10 minutes. Sorry if this is graphic.

    Protein shakes

I drink GNC Total Lean shakes. 25g of protein per bottle

    Nothing Works Anymore

Maybe you need a higher protein intake. If I clear 100+ grams of protein especially on days I workout hard (burn 1000-1600 depending on what I do) and net around 1700 good calories for the day I lose "weight". For me the only # I am after is 198 my goal for surgery. But I am still losing body fat and gaining muscle. It's just a process of finding what works best for you and ruling out any subsequent medical conditions. I also take alot of vitamin supplements. That helps me.

    Getting fluid removed Thursday!

I can't workout on an empty stomach..it makes me nauseas. I usually workout at night tho. Appointment went well today. They removed .25cc and I can already find it easier to eat. The PA Emily agreed with me about my calorie intake needing to be 1500-1800 for the level activity and intensity. That was a nice surprise I made an appointment for 6mos out to see how this goes. Very excited to get my good calories in without getting sick lol!

    Getting fluid removed Thursday!

Dr. Washington is awesome. I only dealt with him a few times, I dealt mostly with Emily. She was good too. I use fitnesspal, and I have a trainer as well. For the amount of workouts I do and the intensity, my net needs to be around 1700 AFTER taking away calories burned. Most of my workouts burn between 1000-1600 calories depending on what I am doing. Majority of the time I'm lucky to get in 1000-1200 calories, and when I workout, I burn all of it off and then some. It's hindering my fat loss :/ and limiting what foods I can handle. I know I mentioned my calorie goal before on here and got hit with alot of "that's too much"...but I do alot of weight training, alot of cardio, weight resistance, etc. And I do it 4-5 times a week. So I don't want to compromise my muscle gains because I am having trouble getting food in you know? My goal is to get enough Fluid removed so I can get my intake where it needs to be without so much trouble. I didn't have good issues prior to surgery, I qualified only because of hypothyroidism...so even having fluid removed would be good to have the opportunity to eat good clean food. I see all these recipes, and I can't eat any of it no eggs, salads are 50/50, chicken rarely works, fish is a no go, pork and steak are 50/50. I can handle turkey the best but only if it's ground turkey, actual turkey I can't hold down. And veggies are a 50/50 shot too! The band has helped me alot, but right now I crossed that threshold of not active to active, and it's starting to hinder my progress. So I need to re-evaluate that amount in my band
  14. I hit an issue the last 2 months having food stay down. So it's really limiting my food intake. I am excited to get some Fluid removed. I am really heading into a fitness direction and not being able to get enough calories in to supplement my workouts has been hindering me. Anyone else find themselves in this situation?
