  1. Hey PEvette! You've been quiet or we've been in different forums. Are you doing ok?

  2. Oh you should have NO worries about this year. I was approved May 19th and there was still an opening for June 7th. He only goes to Wise once a month I believe. Because of issues with my intubation BEFORE my surgery, surgery was cancelled and I had to wait 30 days. They immediately put me in a July 9th slot at Forest Park (my choice to change hospitals). Got my staples out today and I feel wonderful. I had NO complications
  3. Dr Kim did my surgery. When I found out I was approved, I emailed my surgery coordinator 5 minutes later and she replied in a few minutes with a surgery date. Dr Kim does go to other hospitals because of the insurance. Are either Wise Regional in Decatur or Baylor Trophy Club in network for you? Be careful! My UnitedHealthcare provided ZERO coverage for out of network hospitals for bariatrics. Good luck! G.

How Long Till The Weight Loss Kicks In?

I was getting worried too. I went into surgery 7/9 at 208.5 and came home 7/10. On 7/11 I weighed 205.8. I was so happy!!. Then I lost another 3 1/2 pounds in the next two days. But the last two days, I've stalled out. But all of you have been very reassuring. I'm having a little more pain since Friday so it's probably some swelling. Thanks y'all, I'll just stay the course.
  7. I think our recovery is dependent on many variables: our physical and mental preparation, our pre op diet and it's reaction to our bodies, the skill of our surgeon and other medical personnel, etc. Having said that I can tell you I had pain. But I also had that lovely IV for pain meds. And when I didn't really feel good, I asked for more. I felt there was no reason to feel bad and not be able to walk and heal. So I walked quite a bit and healed well. I had great nurses at Forest Park but I had a nursing tech named Shalene who just completely LOVED on me. She made sure I had everything I needed all night long including making my bed everytime I got out of it.I made sure my patient advocate had her name and a great write up. So yes, put your trust and faith in a good outcome. A positive attitude draws positive results. Lift your chin and march in with a smile and complete excitement. I'll keep you both in my prayers. G.

    Submitted Tuesday And

That is great news. When does school start for you?
  12. Well, post op you won't be hungry anymore but you'll surely be thirsty. Have them stay on top of your IV pain meds and you'll sleep through the rest of the day and tonight. If you go for your leak test in the morning, you have something to drink after that. Hold on! You're almost on the bench!!! G.

    Ice Cups/italian Ice

Great idea, Webchickadee. I've got a whole box of popsicles because I only ate one. I have the same tooth sensitivity problem and cup preference. I'll try the Luigi's when they're gone.

    Hey July Sleevers!

Sleeved on Monday, home late Tuesday, feeling great today. I'm developing a routine instead of sleeping all day but I'm still resting and napping when I need to. Walked a mile yesterday and 1.1 miles today. Tomorrow I'm pushing it up to 1.5 miles. For those of you not accostumed to the heat, you have to walk early in the day. I train for The 3-Day for the Cure and my team starts meeting every Sat and Sun in July at 4:45 am. That's right, am! But it's too hot to get in real miles if you don't start early. Starting to get hydrated well. I can't hold much but I've had no pain associated with drinking. Enjoy! G.

    Where are the 50s ???

I was sleeved Monday and have spent most of my time sleeping, some walking, and a little sipping. I have an hour-by-hour schedule of what to do but your schedule Katie, is worth GOLD! This is just what I needed, just when I needed it. Thanks! G.

    Ladies

After my lumpectomy, my surgeon recommended Mederma. You can buy it at Wal-greens, Amazon, etc. When used correctly, it is quite effective. It's also quite expensive.

I Measured My Body Today :(

You'll be so glad you measured when you start to lose weight. This is the only true way to know how great you've done. I used to HATE to see myself in pictures but I've been pulling up pictures and taking new ones just so I can see in a few months how great I've done. You'll be there soon! G.

But I Do Wanna Be A Size 6

Every year our choir takes a retreat to a quaint nearby town with boutiques. Boutiques don't carry large sizes so I just look at the clothes and sigh. I want to be able to go in and try on EVERYTHING that catches my eye. I've already bought a size 6 dress for my 40th High School Reunion next year. This old lady is gonna be CUTE! G.

    Dr. Kim

No, Dr. Kim is not the friendly, jovial type although he softened and spoke very kindly to me when he learned I was a cancer survivor. It kinda surprised me. Other than that he emphasized this is a tool, and that I have to change to make this work. But that he and his staff would help me. I was scheduled for surgery early June but because of an "episode" with the anesthesiologist, I was delayed until this Monday. I'm switching hospitals but not doctors because I have such confidence in Dr. Kim. I've also had good experiences with his staff. They absolutely know what they're doing and take care of things for you. I was UnitedHealthcare but they received my documentation on a Thursday and I was approved the next Friday. G. G.
