  1. MamaM I agree this could end up being a blessing in disguise. I talked to my husband at length tonight and he fully supports me getting over to FP. Thanks to you and all my sleeve family for the encouragement and getting me through a very difficult day. G.
  2. Thank you all! You are the only ones who can truly understand how painful this is for me. Dad, I'm using UHC's Center of Excellence in Decatur. It's the only UHC COE he goes to. I'm trying to get rescheduled with Dr. Kim at Forest Park and just pay 20%. He's not coming back to this facility until July and I don't want to come back at all. But let me say everyone here has treated me SO professionally and compassionately. But now I'm gun shy. And this hospital is an hour from my house, Forest Park is 15 min.
  3. Oh June sleevers! I've had possibly the worse possible thing happen. The anesthesiologist could easily get me intimated. After multiple tries he succeeded but then administered steroids to reduce the swelling. This is unacceptable for this type of surgery so my procedure was cancelled. When I woke u they told me and I burst into tears. I'm now trying to either reschedule with my surgeon here, reschedule where he prefers to go and have the insurance pick up my 20%. Please pray for me. I feel like my whole world is shattered. G.

    Any June Sleevers?

I read all the posts about people's surgery being moved to an earlier time in the day. Since I was scheduled for 2:30 pm, I sure was hoping that would happen to me. So I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw the hospital's number on my caller id an hour ago. Now I'm scheduled for an 6:00am arrival and an 8:00am surgery!!!! I immediately called my ride and she didn't even blink. Now THAT'S a friend to pick you up at 4:45am and drive you an hour to the hospital. I don't think this day can get any better. Decatur, TX losers, I'll be sitting on the bench waiting for you. We're going to have a great time G.
  5. Vee, it's wonderful to hear from you. I'm being sleeved tomorrow and you've got me FIRED up!!! I'm so glad you're doing well. Thanks for checking in with us. Ready to rock this sleeve.
  6. ~Amy thanks so much for taking the time to update us! I know it's going to get a little better every hour so just hang in there. Dr. Nick did a friend of mine three weeks ago. I had ice tea with her last Friday and she's doing GREAT. She emailed me yesterday that she starts mushy food today. So in a short time you'll be on your way! Congrats. G.

    Any June Sleevers?

The last day of my 14 day pre op! Hallelujah!!!!!
  8. Patrick, I admire your courage! A self-imposed diet is a HUGE challenge. But I'm also a control freak like you. When the doctor said this is all I'm allowed for 14 days, it became a challenge. Not with my doctor. Unless I was way off, how would he know? I thew down the challenge for myself. I want to walk in this Thursday in complete compliance. You know, like a game with a perfect score? The weekends have been tortuous but I just dug my heels in and looked at the post-its on my wall showing this is almost over. My uncrossed ones are 3, 2, and YAHOO. Looking forward to crossing them out one at a time. Keep giving it your best shot. YOU deserve it. G.

    Hello :) (New Member)

Hi Future! Welcome to the group. This really is a sweet, supportive group. I don't have UHC Community, mine is UHC Choice. They require a documented 5-year history of a BMI 40 or above. I did drop below 40 during the time I was taking chemotherapy, but I also had documented hypertension and sleep apnea (we sent the study.) No other requirements. I can't speak to recovery because my surgery is this Thursday. Best of luck to you and hope to see you here again. G.
  10. Mina, I think the earlier time is better, no? I know last minute changes are hard. I've got a dear friend willing to drive an hour to take me to my surgery. But I sure would like a time earlier in the day than 2:30. What are your thoughts right now? G.

Ok for those of us craving a cup of coffee. I think most surgeons will allow decaf but what about creamer? My husband bought some Premier RTD Protein Drink from costco and one of the ways they suggest it's used is as a creamer for coffee! I am SO excited! G.

    Waiting Game...

We're all right there with you. Your story is what we've all suffered through and why we're so excited about this tool. Although anything can happen, I can't imagine a plan that pays for this surgery but would deny someone with a BMI of 50+. Use this time to enjoy all your other blessings and be a blessing to others. I'm thinking we'll all be able to Celebrate and woop and holler with you very soon! G.
  19. Congratulations!!!! I am very, very happy for you.

No shopping for me YET. I got three dress in the back of my closet and moved them to the front of my closet. They're two sizes too small. I've missed them dearly. Now they're the first thing I see when I sit up in bed in the morning. Here I come, red dress!!! G.

    Head To Toe......

Beautiful blog, I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing about more things than I could have thought to ask about. It was very enlightening and exciting! Congratulations.
  23. I have UHC and my BMI was 40+ most of the time for the five year period they requested. Knowing this would be an issue, my doctor's office also sent my sleep study from last fall and evidence of hypertension. I also had breast cancer in 2009. My benefits don't state comorbidities matter but they opened my case on a Thursday. It was still pending the next Wed but was approved when I called back that Fri. That's 7 business days. The letter came a few days later but I had everything scheduled by then. My COE is an hour away because I chose my doctor first and that's the only COE he goes to. There's a COE 7 miles from my house but I wanted Dr. Kim. Hang in there and keep us posted! G.

CONGRATULATIONS Lulu! We have the same surgery date but even more I went through the SAME anxiety you did. Should I call today? Yes. No. Yes. Ok I'll wait. And did I ever shout and dance when I called and got that approval. I'm also an hour drive from my surgery hospital but my next trip will be on the 7th Now about those cigarettes.....I'm much older than you are and both my daughters are in their 20's and smoke. Since I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, I've been urging them to quit. But for you I say, throw away the rest of those cigarettes TODAY! This is about the quality of your recovery meaning the lack of complications. I'll be praying for you every day, sleeve sistah. Stay in touch. G.
