  1. Hello everyone. I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving holiday. I have a question for you all and I would love your feedback. I have been sleeved for seven months and I miss salads so much. I was wondering at what time you began eating them them again. I have had a very difficult time with any raw veggies. Raw fruits I am alright with but I've noticed that with any raw veggies, I am not a happy camper. I have only eaten a little lettus (different kinds) with things like a crab cake (that came with sandwich but I took apart) and after a small bite or two, I feel horrible. It's not as bad as raw onions. I CAN NOT EAT RAW ONIONS to save my life. I have no idea why, but I have tried many times and even tried small amounts with the same results. To be honest, I don't have all that better luck with cooked onions. However, they do seem to get down a little better than raw.

I am scared to attempt any type of salad since I know how lettuce and onions affect me, but to be honest, i have wonted one since my third month out. So, please help. How long was it before you could eat a salad or any raw veggies to be exact. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks so much for your input. I have noticed that I can do a small amount of a taco salad as it wilts the lettuce, but I want some crisp iceberg or other greens preferably with some crab meat, chicken breast, or steak.

So, one last time (in case y ou didn't know know what I was asking...lol) How long did you have to wait until you could eat a salad? Thanks for any info you can give me. :)

just somethings to look at and put a smile on your face. Enjoy. Wish i could I enjoy a salad. ;)

  2. I eat anywhere from 600 to 1300 calories...depending on the day. I am six months out. I have noticed that if I don't get carbs or fat in my diet I don't lose as much. Not saying I need to over do those but you don't want your body to crave them. I recommend myfitnesspal.com. It helps you know how many calories you can have and still lose 2lbs a week. I love it. The less you weigh the less you can eat. It also takes in consideration your exercise. If you join, I am tmorgan813 on there....look me up. We can all use support when it comes to things like this. Best of luck and I hope I helped a little. :)

  3. Drinking liquids with your meal will flush the food through your digestive system more quickly. You won't keep the feeling of being full as long, and you'll tend to eat more. At least, that's what I've read and been told :)

You are right for the most part. The other part is that it can cause some things to swell in your tummy and make it VERY uncomfortable!!!!! Trust me on that one. I didn't work on not drinking with food until after surgery. For some strange reason I thought it would be easy to just change 37 years of behavior over night. LOL

  4. my taste buds changed a lot after surgery. It did get better, but I still have things that I can't take even though I used to love them. I can't drink Water as my pouch won't accept it. So, my go to drink is crystal lite iced tea. I actually started drinking it prior to surgery and that did make it a little easier. As for drinks with Protein. None of the ones I liked prior would work for me now. I drink GNC's Lean shake (chocolate). It as 25g protein and only 2g sugar. I haven't really tried to drink anything else. I accidentally took a sip of my husbands soda and almost got sick and I used to drink TONS of soda. Can you drink water at all? Or even use less of the packet stuff you tried. I do water down my tea as I don't like it full strength. I am not sure if I helped at all, but I hope I did. Best of luck to you.

  5. I am very much like you. It was very hard for me to not drink. What I did was make sure I had something cold to eat (applesauce mostly) and that really helped me. It gave me a wet feeling with out being liquid. Also, after I eat, if my pouch can handle it, I will suck on a sugar free candy to wet my mouth or go to the sink and rinse my mouth with out swallowing any of it. It took me about a month to not have to do any of that. Best of luck and know that it's something you have to learn to do if you want your sleeve to work right!!! Hope I helped a little.

  6. I eat a lot of ice pops.....or sugar free popcycles. Also, I take crystal lite, freeze it in at least 1/2 a bottle Water (I use a liter one), then add more in the morning. This way, I get cold liquids all day long. I have been very easy and liquids go down very well...much better than solid food. Oh, I also love Lean shakes. They are from GNC (can be a little expensive) have 25gr or Protein, 2gr of suger, and only 170 calories. Drinking two of these a day I get 28 more ounces of liquids than I normally would. Hope this helped a little. Best of luch to you.

  7. I was a very heavy smoker and I NEVER thought I would quit in time for my surgery. I had my last cig on Nov 29, 2011! I used Chantix. I continued to smoke for a month while on it...and finally I got so sick of not getting ANYTHING from it and from spending so much money. So, I bought blow pops and woke up the next morning and didn't even think about it. It's not been easy as there are times I still want one...however, i feel so much better than before. Good luck.

  8. Remember, your body is going through a huge change....even before surgery becasue you've made some major changes. However, be happy with yourself. You are making the changes you need to make already which will make things much easier after surgery. I have been sleeved for three months now and I still have a very hard time not drinking while I eat. I think if I would have made that change prior, it would be so much easier. Once you get on your pre-op diet and then have the surgery, you will be shocked at how fast everything starts to change!!! Just keep in mind that the things you enjoy (food wise) you may not like at all when you get out of surgery. I am still finding things that I used to LOVE that I no longer even want around me now. :)

Just don't get down on yourself. The weight will come off....and you'll forger all about how worried you were during this time. Best of luck to you!!!!

  9. I make a smoothie with mine. I don't mind it, but it's not something I can eat right out of the container. Here's my smoothie

    1/2 cup Greek yogurt (plain)

    1/2 cup vanilla soy milk

    2-4 packets of Splenda

    3-5 ice cubes.

1/2 -3/4 frozen blueberries (I tried strawberries, and DID NOT LIKE it at all) I do think it would work with raspberries and blackberries though.

Then I blend. Sometimes I have add a little more soy milk to help loosen it up. I get around 15 grams of Protein from it. Over time, I was able to add more yogurt and get more Protein. The yogurt is very tangy and sour, so the more berries, the better. :)

I haven't made one of these in forever, now I think I'm going ot have make one soon. LOL

  10. You are going through withdraw from all the carbs, sugars and processed foods. I had a horrible headache for about four days. I found that Excedrin worked best for me. It never fully went away, but it did get better. Best of luck to you. In two months you won't even remember the headaches. :)

  11. The lomein is mostly for taste for the chicken. To be honest, I rarely eat the noodles...I think I do it more to have it look more like a meal. I really like Beans, but I don't know how to make them. I wanted to make some re-fried beans but to be honest, I'm a little scared. I will try the eggs as well. Thanks for the info. Any crock pot ideas to try?

  12. I was sleeved on April 12th and I am doing very well. I get my Protein in via Lean shakes and for dinner I eat chicken. My issue is that I am getting sick of chicken. All other meats don't seem to sit well with me. I am very good with bacon for some reason. :) I can also eat some nuts as a snack. While I was PMSing, Nutella and little pretzel stix were good too but I couldn't eat very many. The nutella seemed to hit the need for something sweet. My issue is that I don't like to make a "meal" becasue I can't eat much of it. I cook two chicken breasts and then take 2ounces at a time and mix with some lomein or I just eat it plain. So, what are you all eating and how much? I need ideas.

  13. I am nine weeks out and I have tried to eat some hamburger (1 to 2 ounces) on two occasions. Neither one worked. Many people who have this procedure can no longer handle hamburger or red meat in general. I can eat chicken and that seems to be the only meat I do consume. I know you may feel that many people on here went into attack mode, but I truly believe it was more concern for you than anything. No one want to hear about someone making "bad" choices so early on after surgery. Remember that O.J. is high in calories and that maybe you should look for other non or low calorie options. Over time you will be able to get more food in and even though you are losing weight now, you may not be able to lose if you have those extra calories from the OJ. I am still unable to drink plain Water so I drink crystal lite Decaf. Iced tea. It seems to go down well. But, here's the most important thing....no one can tell you what you should do or force you to do it. You need to find your own path. Best of luck with your sleeve. I hope it gets better for you.

  14. Good luck. I found the pre-op diet one of the hardest parts of going through this. I was filled up, but I missed chewing and drinking the same stuff for 14days (per my doc) got really boring....really fast. On a positive note, the time did seem to fly by and before I knew it I was in surgery. Now it's been a little over two months and I am fifty pounds down. Before you know it you will be recovering and losing and feeling better every day. Good luck.
