  1. You will do fine!!!!Look at all the success stories here! You have done the hard part- asking for help! Now bite the bullet and get it done! We all had some fear!

But here I am 73 pounds down! Size 10 ! You can do this!!!!!!!!!

You are already brave by asking for help!

  2. Yep, it is scary! But what is more scary is spending the rest of your life fighting with your weight and thinking you have failed!

You will be uncomfortable for a while, but you can do this. I was sleeved in April and have lost 68 pounds so far. It is so much fun to shop for clothes now! I was a size 18-20 Women, and now can wear a size 10 jeans from the Gap. It is amazing.

The health care providers will be certain that you are comfy- don't be afraid to ask for pain meds. You CAN do this. Be brave!.

  3. I was sleeved April 9, 2012. I too have no energy. I am pooped all the time. I have lost 61 pounds and was exercising, but I just don' have any ummph after work to go to the gym. I still work in the yard, but it is a struggle. I get all my Protein and my Water, but just cannot seem to get past this tiredness. Anyone have any ideas?

  4. My surgeon was Jon Schram M.D . His office is in Holland ,Michigan and he operates at Zeeland (Michigan) Community Hospital. He is great, as is his staff. Zeeland Hospital is a Spectrum hospital - small and cozy. The building is only 6+ years old, well maintained and the rooms are huge. I have recommended Dr. Schram to several people. One of my co workers had a sleeve before my surgery- which is how I found him. My coworker and I both think he is the best.

  5. The first thing to do is find a surgeon and talk to him/her.

I was sleeed 9 April 2012. I am so very happy with the result.

I have lost 33 pounds. True, you can't eat a lot at a time, but if you follow the rules-protein and Water first- then you will be fine. I have to remember to eat. I drink water all the time. I am not eating everything yet-see my surgeon next week and then will step up a notch. But I am presently very content with soft foods. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. A lot of things didn't taste right, but this is normal. I loved chicken before surgery and when they said I could have it again, I didn't like it.But now I like the taste. I don't crave anything. I am determined to make this work. The sleeve is safer than gastric bypass and you have been through the lap band. I was back to work after 5 weeks. I did 1/2 days the 6th week, but now I am full speed ahead.I have had to cut my blood pressure meds in half and don't need my CPAP any more. It is amazing.

The sleeve is self-restricting. You eat small amounts and you are full. At least for me. Four-six ounces of yogurt is all I can eat at a time. But I try to eat a little every couple hours.. The way I look now makes me smile and I follow the rules as it make me happy. My clothes don't hurt!

I didn't tell many people. More know now, but I have kept it pretty quiet. Some people tell everyone. It is a very personal thing.

Get to a surgeon and talk this out. You will find your way.

    Good luck!

  7. Ii only told a few people. I didn't want to deal with the negative comments from those who have thought that I should be able to loose the weight by dieting and exercising. Well I have been doing that for 40 years and it did not work. I was sleeved April 9, and have lost 32 pounds. I have had to cut my blood pressure meds in half and I don't need my CPAP any more. I am taking care of me the best way I can. Just do what you are comfy doing. This is about you!!

  8. I agree that people who have never had a weight problem don't get it. I have told just a few people about my surgery. I did not want to deal with anyone who was negative. The few friends that I have told are supportive and understanding. It was just easier to pick my bsttles. I have posted nothing on FB. This is my journey and I am going to take MY path. THINK POSITIVE.. This is our body and our choice. No one should be negative of out choices. They should respect us and be glad for us!!!!!

  9. I am only 3 weeks sleeved, but am totally convined that this is the way to go. I am eating a limited group of food but as you have read, you can step up as you body becomes used to the smaller stomach. And the part of the stomach that goes away is the part that makes you hungry.

As far as leak goes, I was taken to xray the day after surgery, drank some radiopaque Fluid and was checked for any leaks- it was all good. Your surgeon and his dieticians will teach you how and what to eat ... And when. As long as you follow the routine, you should be great. You have be through the band. VGS should be the last weight loss surgery you have to have!

  10. I have BCBS of Michigan. I had to pay $1100 up front-copay. I thought this was a deal. My BMI was just below 40, but have hypertention, sleep apnea and elevated A1C. Also have a lot of joint problems. These problems allowed me to have coverage for the major part of the surgery. I have not received the billing, so I don't know the total cost of the surgery. I have lost 12 pounds this first 10 days post op.
