Barium Swallow / Endoscopy
I had one fill after my band surgery. 2.85cc. Sliming and Pbing was almost a daily experience. About 8 months after band surgery, it got too tight... I was having trouble liquids. Had to exist on thin soups and such for two months before I could fly back to the States for an unfill. The band has never really worked for me. I had a complete unfill last September... and now only 2 weeks until I get this band out! My doctor is saying that I will need to do a barium swallow the morning of the surgery and possibly a endoscopy. I will do whatever he recommends...just wondering about every bodies experience. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers, Dottie

Study Results About Band/sleeve/bypass
Hi, Just came across this study published June 2012... about the three common types of bariatric surgery. The quote that I found the most interesting was.... The rate of a gastrointestinal leak, considered a serious complication, was three-tenths of one percent (0.3%) for sleeve gastrectomy versus four-tenths of one percent (0.4%) for gastric bypass patients. The percentage of procedures requiring reoperations due to complications was 15.3 percent for the gastric band, 7.7 percent for gastric bypass and 1.5 percent for sleeve gastrectomy. And... A third study on sleeve gastrectomy conducted by the Naval Medical Center in San Diego found while gastric bypass patients lost more of their excess weight after the first year, 72.3 percent versus 63.7 percent, there were no statistically significant differences in excess weight loss after two and five years. This study examined 486 patients, half had gastric bypass and half had sleeve gastrectomy. Here is the link to the article... http://asmbs.org/2012/06/new-studies-weigh-in-on-safety-and-effectiveness-of-newer-bariatric-and-metabolic-procedure-sleeve-gastrectomy-demonstrates-weight-loss-and-safety-comparable-to-more-established-procedures/ Good luck to all the Sleevers! I can't wait to NOT have to ask for a self belt extender on a plane.- Any Problems With Lobster?
You could have developed a food allergy to lobster. It might not have anything to do with your sleeve. I use to love shrimp and lobster. I ate shrimp one day and got sick...vomiting and dirreahea. I didn't realize it was the shrimp and one week later, I ate shrimp again and got sick. Tried different shrimp... nope, got sick. Ate lobster...got sick. I had developed an allergy to shrimp and lobster . I can still eat oysters, conch, crab...just no shrimp and lobster. Go figure. Doctor says you can develop food allergies throughout you life. Oh well... I do like the fake lobster. Hope you feel better.- Dr Garcia And Mi Doctors Hospital
Dr. Ortiz at Obesity Control Center is excellent.... give his website a look.- Need Reassurance
Hi, I live in the Caribbean...where it is always hot. I work outside on a dive boat every day, I love being on the water...even if it is hot and I sweat constantly. But, I really dislike exercising or taking a walk outside after or before I have been working outside all day. So, I have discovered Leslie Sansone's Walk at Home DVDs. They are great and very easy to follow. You are just walking in place with a few moves added in... and each DVD is set for a particular distance... so, you know how far you have walked.... one mile, three miles, etc. Plus, you are in the comfort of your own home with the AC blasting and whatever else you need close at hand. It definitely helps me get some exercise in. www.walkathome.com/ cheers, Dottie - Really Good Gastric Sleeve Patient Manual
