    So Discouraged

I have found that I need a different mindset post-op. I need to think in excess - excess Water, exercise and sleep. I also need to consume at least 1,000 calories (no more than 1,200) of mostly Protein a day. If I get enough sleep, hydration, and calories - I lose weight. If I miss any of these, I do not. If I exercise more, than I lose more as long as I met my sleep, hydration, and calories. I also do not worry about the week before my period when it comes to the scale - I retain too much water. I just try to add more hydration during this time period. I got wls for assistance with conception due to PCOS. So, I am very motivated after 3 years of failed conception. I have been taken off of my pre-diabetic meds and have recently started supplements of L-Arginine, CoQ-10, and NAC to assist with PCOS symptoms. I do get discouraged when the scale "stalls" but I keep at it and so far I have lost 75 pounds in 4.5 months post-op. The surgeon was recommending a loss of 120 pounds over the year - so I am over halfway there in less than half the time. I have increased my goal loss to 150 pounds, but I will not put extra stress on me (stress can also cause weight loss to slow). Good luck and I am glad the scaled moved a few pounds, before you know it, it will be moving faster than you ever thought.

    Any Sleevers With Pcos?

I also have PCOS and had surgery to help with conception. I am 4.5 months post-surgery and have lost 75 of the 120 that the doctors wanted me to lose over the year (I would like to lose 150). I had electrolysis for my facial hair and it has worked great. I am getting conflicting information from my doctors. I am nearly 36 y/o and have been trying to conceive for 3 years. The OB/GYN and Fertility Specialist want me to start trying again in September 2012. This will only be 6.5 months post-surgery. The surgeon is recommending that I wait until one year post-op. She is telling me that the only reason to wait is so that I can lose more weight, but that I should not have any additional complications due to surgery, especially if I wait until 6 months post-op. My husband and I are tyring to decie what to do. Have any of you received this type of information?
  3. I also had to make the decision to stop trying to conceive and have WLS so that I may try to conceive in the future. I have PCOS that was only diagnosed 1.5 years ago. I was on birth control for 19 years and the doctor's missed the PCOS the whole time. I am 35 y/o and my husband and I tried to conceive for 2 years. The doctor's had been recommending WLS for the last 5 years as weight just kept creeping on even though I was on a great diet and had a personal trainer (that pesky PCOS). I am 5 weeks post op and have lost 42 pounds since the pre-op diet (a total of 7 weeks). I feel so much better and am glad that I chose to do surgery first and then try to conceive in a few months when it is healthy to do so. It was a heartbreaking decision at the time, but one that I do not regret at this moment. @Karen2012, you are still very young, talk to your doctor's but you if you are able to have surgery first, in my opinion, I would do that in order to feel better and be healthier and ultimately have more energy to run around after those little ones that will hopefully come in the future. Good luck in whatever way you go.
