  1. Looking for some info here please.:help: I had heard at the one seminar that I went to in November that UPMC fully covers Lap Band surgery. So, I was just wondering if anyone out there has that insurance. Also, does anyone have AFLAC? Would the time you are off for the surgery qualify you for short term disability benefits? Just curious. Thanks for all your input!
  2. Hi All, I have been reading a lot of interesting information on here and I am really excited about getting started! This is great! I am really a rookie here though. I am just going for my first visit at the bariatric center on Monday, Feb. 26th. So, I'm on here trying to absorb as much info as possible. I'm married with a 13 year old daughter who is very active! I want to be active with her, so I need to get down to business here. I have gerd, a hiatal hernia, high blood pressure (controlled w/meds) and I have just been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. Yee haa! Just one thing after another. I have a birthday coming up in March and every year it seems like another ailment goes along with it! Enough! I need to get my weight under control. I have been on sooo many diets it isn't funny. Now I am hopefully going to be able to have the lap band surgery. To be continued......:clap2:
  3. Hi Eileen, Thanks for your response! Wow, it seems like the place you are going to moves along pretty quickly. I met with the doctor and the dietition on Feb. 27th. Now I have to change my "lifestyle" for 6 months then I may be considered for the surgery. That is fine with me..gives me more time to think about it. My husband is not 100% supportive, but he knows that if I want to do something I do it even if he doesn't agree. I have started keeping a food diary and actually walking 20 minutes a day on my treadmill. The first step on that machine was so hard. But, I pushed myself and it has been routine every morning now for a week. I feel a lot better too. Plus, I received my "new bedtime fashion accessory" a Bi-pap machine. I have been sleeping soooo good and I think that has made a difference too. I hope to lose this accessory after the surgery as well as my blood pressure meds and gerd. So, we'll see. Good luck to you and please keep me posted on your journey! Mia

  5. Hi all, I'm from Latrobe, PA, Westmoreland County. I'm going to see Dr. Costa in Greensburg on Monday for my first visit! I'm still learning my way around this site. So glad I found this. I'm 5' 4" 228 lbs. Been up and down with my weight all my life. I'm married to a wonderful guy and I have a 13 year old daughter who keeps me hopping! Well, not too much hopping in my shape, but you get my drift...I need to lose weight to keep up with her and my husband. Who can eat anything by the way and not gain an ounce grrrr... Oh well, I'll check in again later and see how you all are doing. Good luck to you!
  6. Hi King rule, Thanks for your response! Good luck to you in reaching your goal, I'm sure you will. Take care.

  8. Hi, Thanks for your response. Where are you in PA? I'm going to see Dr. Costa in Greensburg, PA. Gee, it is nice to see someone else with the same dx, i.e. gerd, high blood pressure and sleep apnea. Do you use a CPAP machine?
