  1. I absolutely DESPISE Protein Shakes. I did not have any before the surgery and after they gave me Isopure which was terrible. The best I have found so far is the Unjury which is pretty popular. They also have a sampler pack which is relatively cheap and allows you to try a bunch of different flavors. My favorite is the chocolate splendor. Honestly I dont drink as many Protein shakes as I should but when I do it is by far the best.

Ok thank you. I do have a sample of the ckn Soup one from unjury. Maybe I am jumping ahead but I don't think I will be able to nor feel like getting out to get these things after surgery so that's why I am asking..lol Figured I better start shopping now!

  2. First of all I would buy a recliner if you don't already have one or set up your bed with LOTS of pillows. Nobody told me how painful it would be after surgery when trying to sleep. It is impossible to sleep on your side and after about an hour gets very uncomfortable. The best solution i found was a reclining chair. I would also but some low calorie apple juice. It was the only thing that i actually enjoyed during the liquid phase. I would freeze a couple of ounces and then mix it with Water after it was frozen to make a slushie. It felt especially good after the surgery when i had a soar throat from the intubation.

Wow, thank you! I sleep on the couch right now because I am in between beds at the moment. I do not have a recliner but will def check sales! Did you stock up on Protein Shakes or anything before surgery? Im not sure what to get. They said to buy some now and try it so I would know what I like but I can not afford to just buy a bunch of them. I am planning on getting the bariatric Vitamins.< /p>

  3. Hi all!! I was just approved for surgery and was wondering from all the pro's what I should get NOW. Should I be taking anything before? There are so many to chose from! I don't do good with too many choices..lol. Also, What should I start doing as far shopping for things I will need after surgery and packing for the hospital? If you could give me any advice what would it be??? I am so ready for this mentally but I have NOTHING as far as Vitamins and shakes yet and don't even know where to begin. Should get other things like sugar free pudding or anything else similar? ANY advice or things you learned along the way that might make my journey easier would be much appreciated! ANYTHING AT ALL!!!! Thanks in advance and congrats to everyone hope you are all doing great!!

  4. Hi I'm new here I started my 6 months of nutrition classes in January, just finished all my pre-op on Wednesday called my surgeons office to see if they have submitted for approval and now I'm waiting on the surgeons office to submit to insurance had to leave them a message and they always take forever to call you back been going through this since January just ready for it to all be over so I can start my new healthy life.

I know what you mean, I have been at this since Feb and I just got approved! Now waiting for my surgeons office to let me know if they can get me in before Jan, apparently my surgeon is a very busy man! lol

  5. That's so exciting !! I started researching about the surgery 3 years ago but finally got started on the process last month and have my last pre op appointment on Monday. I'm very excited for it to be the last appointment , and then after that point its waiting for approval which I hope doesn't take long at all !! I'm hoping to have the surgery around December time because i am in school and it happens to be my longest break .. I'm hoping that everything from Monday on out happens pretty quickly !!

I am in college and we only have Christmas Eve and Christmas day off, but Im planning on taking about a week off and just doing my work at home then going back sooner than expected because all we do is sit and learn, lol Good luck with all your stuff!! YAY

  7. I know you're anxious and ready to get your new life started, but at least you can have peace at mind knowing that no matter what its official and this is going to happen. I'm so excited for you!

Thanks, that's what I keep telling myself, at least the rough road is over! even if I do have to wait till Jan, at least I was approved!

  9. Congrats on your approval. My dr just sent the paperwork to the insurance company yesterday.....waiting on pins and needles. They said I could be having surgery this month if the approval comes back in a week or two!! Super excited !!

Thank you, Im crossing my fingers for you. You are lucky to that you can have it done this month! I wish I could!

  11. Thank you all!!! I am very excited and I am crossing my fingers too! I guess he is so busy because he is the only WLS in the area that takes Medicaid, I didn't know that in the beginning or I would have chosen another surgeon. I have been calling his office and they said they are shifting appointments to try and fit everyone in before the new year, seems there are a lot of people wanting their surgery before the deductible sets in again. I know for sure though that it will definitely be either this year or the first of January, as long as Im approved Im not gonna complain!

  13. My doctor's office and I have received verbal approval from ins. co. for my surgery. In order to get a surgery date, my doctor's office requires a written letter. The letter was mailed on 9/18. Hope it arrives on 9/25.

I am a band to sleeve revision patient. My ins. co. waived the six month supervised diet criteria due to band complications.

Looking at a 10/8 if available by the time I get written approval. If that date is unavailable I will have to wait until 10/25 due to work obligations.

a written letter from insurance? I don't understand. I just got approved and called my surgeons office 2 times today to see if he can get me in before the beginning of the year but of course they don't call back..maybe tomorrow! I do not wanna switch surgeons!

  14. I was finally approved, took forever it seems. I was so worried about my 5yr weight history since tow of the years my BMI was under 35 with no comorbidities but I got approved!! I am so happy and still waiting on a date. I was told a month ago that my surgeon may not be able to get me in till Jan but I am waiting on a call back now to see if he can get me in this year. I can not afford any more copays to go and see another surgeon.

  15. I guess I did all mine backwards. Went to seminar then psych eval and nutritionalist. Go dr on the 16. I have been reading everyone elses post and it seems the did everything before ins approval. I still have pre-op tests to do but already got ins approval? !

that is weird, I thought you had to pass everything and see an NUT first before insurance even approves.

  16. I am in the same shoes as you!!! I submitted my paperwork last Friday and now anxiously waiting! I REALLY want my surgery in November but we will see how this goes...I am happy that I made it to this stage. Thought it would never get here! Best of luck to you! :D

I thought I would never get here either! And now waiting to hear from insurance seems like an eternity! lol some people hear back in a day or two, but ,mine was submitted the 25th, so I hope they hurry so my surgeon can squeeze me in this year!

  17. I was curious about the Protein do you just mix it with Water? I guess I'm not sure if you can have shakes on the "clear diet" (first 2 wks?) and need clarification. I'm going to Mexico so don't have a surgeon per say to ask. I guess when I think clear liquid I think you cant have the protein...

With that said hang in there I'm sure it will get better and I'm sure you made the right choice! Feel good soon! :)

I was told at first it is all liquid, including Protein Shakes. That's the only way to get your Protein at first. But that's just what my NUT and all the docs told me. my Full liquid menue is: breakfast; cooked refine Cereal 2-4 table spoons then 30min after eating 8oz Protein shake (sip 1/4 cup every 15min), 2hrs after breakfast: sugar free pudding 2-4 tablespoons (optional), lunch; strained cream Soup 4-6 tablespoons, 30min after have 8oz Water (sip 1/4c every 15min), 2hrs after lunch 8oz Protein Shake again sip 1/4c, 3hrs after lunch 8oz skim milk again sip 1/4c, dinner; strained cream Soup 4-6tbs protein shake 30 min after (sip 1/4c every 15min), 8oz skim milk 2hrs after dinner, 3hrs after dinner sip 8oz water then 4hrs after dinner sip 8oz water. a little example..lol

  18. Hmmm..just give it some time and see if it shows up. If it does not call your insurance company and ask how far along in the process it stands. They may surprise you and have an answer.

Believe me, I know about thinking you're all done with appts..ha ha.. My cardiologist has been the worst. I can't even began to tell you how many "tests" I've had...some I believe to be completely unnecessary too..but I have to bite my tongue because I need the approval, so I can get my surgery as soon as possible. I don't want to upset the apple cart, but normally I'd be pretty darn vocal about things...

OK, so Im just acting like a crazy person and Im sitting on UHC's wb site and I keep refreshing it to see if Im approved or not..lmao! Im obsessed with finding out..lol I will be so disappointed if Im not!
