My employer has an obesity exclusion on our policy, so I'm self pay. I'm refinancing my first home (2yrs into mortgage) to get this done. I considered Mexico as I could have paid for that with my savings, but the fear of complications and no real follow up terrified me. So this is it... I'm thrilled, scared & soooo excited!

Oh wow... I'm so excited for you!! Cannot wait to hear about your upcoming success!!! Best wishes!

Hi y'all! I have my initial surgeon appt next week and I'm about to burst at the seams with excitement! Okay, that's an understatement. I'm obsessed with it now that I've decided this is the best for me. It's what I think about when I go to bed, wake up, and all day in between I'm researching, reading and preparing. My dr's coordinator said after initial appt my surgery will be scheduled and will be about 3-4wks! I'm trying not to get my hopes up and trying to stay "normal", but wow... Reminds me of that line in "When Harry Met Sally" where he says something like the minute you know you've met the person you want to spend the rest of your life with that you want the rest of your life to begin that moment. I'd go tomorrow if I could! Ahhh!!!

Lucedale, MS here! First appt with Dr Jenkins next week! Cannot wait to hear your stories & experiences!

Hey ladies!
I live in Lucedale and have my first appt w/Dr Jenkins next Wed 4/18. I cannot wait! My insurance will not cover wls, so I'm refinancing my home. It scares me to death, but at the same time I'm really excited about a new, healthier life!

Congrats!!!!! I'm hoping to be able to schedule mine soon - I'm also a nurse, but I'm self pay. My employer has an obesity exclusion in our policy. Please keep me informed at how you do!

Well... Went to a different seminar today. I've decided to refinance my home (I'm only 2yrs into my mortgage) and self pay locally. I'm super excited! Start the refi process tomorrow and first dr appt is next week

Is the exclusion just for your particular employer? I also have BCBS of AL but with PEEHIP. Have you checked around with other surgeon's offices to see if they offer financing options? There's a clinic in Mobile that I'm going to call tomorrow and register for yet another seminar. If all else fails, I could possibly look into refi on my home. :/ My employer set the exclusion - And I'm a nurse. Lol!

I went to info session this evening. Super discouraged and wish I hadn't even gone. Found out today my employer has an "obesity exclusion" on our BCBS of AL policy. The surgeon's office where I attended the seminar advised me they have no financing options and they don't accept Care Credit. A clinic in neighboring state does. I'm still considering the Mexico option, even though my bf & bestie both have a fit when I mention it. I am terrified of the debt w/Care Credit but just as terrified of diabetes, heart trouble, joint replacement, etc (all of which would be covered by my policy). I have some savings, but definitely not anywhere near $15K. Ughhh.... Any suggestions? Thoughts? Encouragement? BMI is 39, I'm 40 & ready to live healthy! Help

Well, my company has an "obesity exclusion" on our insurance. Funny... I'm a nurse
Anywho... I've gotten prices from every area here to Mexico - and will probably just stay locally.

Good Morning from South Mississippi! I'm going this evening for the educational session. I'm super excited! I've decided this is what I'm going to do - regardless if I have the support of BCBS AL! I'm 40yrs old, I've been overweight all of my life. I've lost weight a hundred times over only to gain it back. I'm 5'2", my weight this morning is 206lbs and I'm currently in a size 16 and miserable!!! I'm going to see Dr. Avara and hopefully join the rest of you on a journey to a healthier, more active lifestyle! Reading your stories has inspired me! Your prayers would be much appreciated!
