  1. Consider the safety aspect.. IF something were to go wrong you are in the optimal place for that to happen. There are many more resources at a hospital than a free standing clinic (trust me, I am a nurse and work at both a clinic--endoscopy and in a critical care unit in the hospital). Someone with a really high BMI just has more risk factors and more can go wrong. It is totally in your best interest Jenn
  2. At 3 days post op I posted a thread similar to yours. I was feeling so much regret and "what was I thinking?" It does get better!!!! Those first 3 days are the absolute worst (or were for me). Things start to get better. Are you taking something for acid (omeprazole or similar)? Using ice packs on my belly helped me. Sip sip sip. Do you have anything for nausea to help with the dry heaves? You could always call you on call doc for suggestions too! Keep coming here to this board-the support from the other members is amazing. They have helped me through that 3 day regret and mourning period!!! Feel better, Jenn

    The Pain?

My pain was quite severe initially.. I would say for the first 3 days.. Compared to childbirth-I had a section and a spinal and that pain was intense... I had trapped gas for my section too. For the sleeve surgery I wasn't expecting as much pain as I had.. But, the pain was more of an intense burn in my stomach.. I am almost 3 weeks post op and haven't taken any meds in 1 1/2 weeks... My pain is gone, I feel pretty good and I'm getting ready to go back to work (I'm a nurse) on Sunday. Initially--take your meds!! Use ice packs for your stomach and heating pad for your back *this is what my surgeon suggested. I slept with ice packs for the first three nights at home--it was amazing Good luck to you~!!! Jenn

I am almost 3 weeks post op and am feeling great My incisions are healed. I am not having pain or discomfort and am grateful for my sleeve Good luck to you!!!! Jenn

  9. Looking for anyone else who is a March Sleever for some encouragement. Have my date finally after starting the process 18 months ago, getting sidetracked and finally going for the gold Have a date of March 10 and getting ready to start my 2 week pre op liquid diet... This seems like such an obstacle for me, though I know it is for the me to have a safe surgery... Any thoughts, words of wisdom to get through these next 2 weeks??? Thanks--Jenn

    March Roll Call!

So.. I had surgery on March 10th.. I was so incredibly nervous going in (always a little scared about anesthesia). Procedure went well, woke up in PACU and my O2 sats were on the low side. Had a really hard time waking up. I was not conscious for more than an hour that first day.. I got up to use the restroom and back to sleep. Could not keep my eyes open!!! (this may have been due to the 2mg dilaudid I was given!! post op) So on POD1, things were rough, I was in a lot of pain--not surgical mind you, but stomach. Once I started taking Omeprazole regularly, that pain went away. So here I am POD 11 and things are going wonderfully. I am adjusting well to my new stomach and learning what I can and cannot do. It is still so hard to slow down when eating... I was so used to eating fast, it is a hard habit to break. Drinking is getting easier as I don't have to sip, I can take a real drink now. If I find I am low on fluids, I'll have a popsicle or 2 to help bring that number up.. Today I actually got about 58! Gms Protein in.. How exciting Would I change anything?? On POD1 I would have cancelled sx.... But today.. I feel better, I am lighter and I am going to live longer. Dr. Westmoreland has given me the tools to change my life-it's in my hands now!!!!! Good luck to all still waiting for their March Surgery!!! Congrats to those already sleeved and doing well -19 pounds post op!!!! Jenn

I don't think I drank that much while in the hospital.... Sip sip sip... Keep sipping
  14. Congrats on your goal. So very sorry about your dad!! Nothing I can say will help, just know you are in my thoughts.
  15. I am one week out, post op and have lost 13.5 this week... My total for pre-op and now is 28#. It totally depends is what I am finding
  16. First off, please don't flame... I am just venting here.. Immediately post op- and POD1 I was feeling immense regret over having the surgery. I know a lot of that was pain because I was in a lot of it.. But now here I am POD6 and I don't know if I am still having that nagging feeling of at least some regret over having the sleeve done. I don't know where this is coming from or why. I am grateful for my life, my family but just need to hear if others have went through a period of regret (or maybe I am mourning my fat self).... THanks in advance, Jenn

    Regrets?

@Debby, I understand completely. My first day home (and the next) I could not find a comfortable position to be in. That was awful. My doc said to use heating pad for my back/ice for belly. I have also been loving the gas x strips--supposed to help with trapped gas from procedure too! I am totally sympathizing with you Hang in there!!!!!!! Jenn

    Regrets?

WOW! Thanks guys for all the replies. It's good to know I am not alone. I knew this was permanent and it just hit me these last couple of days that it really is. I am happy as the pounds are coming off like never before, I just want the negative feelings to be gone! Thanks again for the insight, I really appreciate it!!!! Jenn

    March Roll Call!

Honestly, I feel terrible. Wasn't expecting this much pain. Lortab elixir makes me vomit, had to get pills instead.. Feeling stronger every day though I question why I did this?? LOL Just really sore and having a hard time getting all my liquids.
