October Sleevers-How Ya Doin?
I was sleeved on Oct 30th, 1 week ago. I was taking over 27 prescribed medications and two weeks before surgery the doctor took me off ALL meds. Since Oct 30th pm, I have been suffering from hot flashes something BAD! In the hospital the nurses put ice packs on my feet and behind my neck. I sleep with a fan and windows open. Last night all I could think of was wanting to go to the snow taking off my clothes to cool down! I live in California where it has been in the 80's! Yes, one of the meds was for hot flashes. All the Protein shakes I purchased prior and loved, now I can not stand the taste. Even Water tastes weird, yes, bottled! I am having a hard time with my Vitamins can not take the nasty taste and this morning wanted to vomit after taking my Vitamin pill. That really hurt! But, I am hoping that this is ALL temp. Anyone have these problems and if so how long did it last? Another thing is I see that everyone's diet plan is different. I was told I would have to be on full liquids for 4 weeks, then pureed for one week, soft foods for 1 week. I started emailing and talking to someone that I met through this website and even though she has not had the surgery is losing weight all on her own but still wants to have the surgery in January. I told her about my protein problem so she told me to get Fage 0% yogurt and blend it with frozen strawberries and splenda…wow frozen yogurt! It will probably be the only way I get protein in me until my tastebuds come back. I have to let it sit so it is not as cold going down to my stomach. Also, how about seedless watermelon? Is that a no no?

Any Bay Area California Sleevers?
Sounds good to me. I had my surgery on Oct. 30th, 6 days post and I AM MISERABLE! My #1 reason to have this surgery was because I was taking 27 pills a day and saw no other way out. Well I forgot why I was taking a pre-menopause medication… HOT FLASHES….well that night after surgery the hot flashes started up again. The nurses put ice packs on my feet! It had been a good 2 years since I had one! Needless to say at 1am I am outside on the front porch dying! LOL….When I am in the middle of a hot flash I just wanna chug the cold water. SF popsicles have been my #1 BFF! I am now hoping to find herbal medication. Another weird thing is my tastebuds are not working or maybe they are, because I can not find anything to eat that I like and this includes my protein shakes I use to love.

Oct 30Th Is Coming Fast-Nervous, Scared, Yet Excited! Any Words Of Wisdom?
I am getting nervous about Tuesday. I can not believe that I started this journey back in January and now it is finally here. I am even asking myself "Are you sure?" is that normal to have second thoughts? Went grocery shopping yesterday to stock up so when I get home there is no need to go to the store. I also ordered a Bari-Buddy because lately my asthma is acting up and I have been coughing so much. My doctor already took me off 9 of my meds and that comes out to 14 LESS pills a day! I have been on cloud 9 since Friday, I normally take 25 pills a day. The doctor at Stanford told me, "who gave you this wild cocktail!?" He also said over 1/2 of my meds are weight gainers, so hopefully getting off some of them will make losing easier!

13 Days And Counting! October 30 Surgery Date
Went to my info class regarding how to eat and getting samples of the vitamins and protein flavors. Getting really excited to start this new chapter in my life. I decided on the Opurity vitamins and Calcium-Citrate Plus. Doesn't taste good but with the number of meds I already take, only having to add two pills to my regiment is good to me! Well gotta get up and make my cream of wheat! Have a great day! Anyone else getting the surgery on the 30th? Any words of wisdom?

Anyone From The Bay Area
I will be having my surgery at Stanford, just waiting to get my call to schedule the surgery. I already jumped through all the hoops and test needed. I was supposed to have surgery with Dr. Morton but he is full till January so I decided to switch to Dr. Rivas. Good luck with your journey.

What? Wait, What Do You Mean I Will Not Get My Surgery Till Next Year!
Called this morning and the nurse said changing doctors would be no problem. They are just still waiting for the clearance letter from my cardiologist. Test was taken over a month ago, they sent the results in but no clearance letter. The nurse told me she would call AGAIN and for me to do the same, because she said it should not take this long to fill out the form. So I guess it is a waiting game. I do plan on going to the office myself to put on the "pressure"!

What? Wait, What Do You Mean I Will Not Get My Surgery Till Next Year!
Unfortunately, Stanford is about 1 1/2 hrs away, but I am hoping that when I call the case nurse maybe she will be inclined to get me to see someone else. I guess this doctor is the #1 doctor at Stanford, so if I tell her ANY of the other gastric surgeons will be fine.

What? Wait, What Do You Mean I Will Not Get My Surgery Till Next Year!
I live in California and my doctor is at Stanford Hospital, unfortunately I am unable to go anywhere else, when I asked if I could change doctors they said no, because all surgery schedules were full. I have a *** and it states the approval is only for Stanford Hospital. I was so excited when I received my approval letter. Actually I just thought of something, double checked my approval letter and it states that my surgery has to happen before 12/11/2012. Guess I will be calling that case nurse tomorrow morning! Wish me luck

What? Wait, What Do You Mean I Will Not Get My Surgery Till Next Year!
Got my approval letter and spoke with the case nurse who told me they are waiting for a letter from the cardiologist to clear me for surgery. Then she proceeds to tell me, well it doesn't really matter because the doctors surgery schedule is already into January! I told her "I have to wait until January?" and she said "Yes, unless of course the letter takes too long to get here, then you might be looking till Feb!" I have call the doctors office to see what the hold up was, since I did my test 6 weeks ago!, the office person told me that they are just waiting for the doctor to fill out the form! I already did all that was needed to be done to get this surgery. Has anyone had to wait this long?

Approval Letter Just Arrived!
I am stunned, but on Monday (10th) the doctor’s office called to tell me that all my paperwork was complete and they would be sending it to the insurance company within the next 48 hrs. I just opened my approval letter from the insurance company! WOW, she told me that it would take 4-6 weeks before hearing anything!! Now I am just anxiously waiting for the doctors office to call me back!

Stanford Hospital And Consultation Question
I just got a letter of approval from my insurance company for a consultation appt at Stanford. My doctor told me that after my consultation appt I will find out if I get approval for the surgery. What happens at the consultation appt? My doctor told me that my BMI is not high enough but I have several morbid tendencies. I have already gone through 6 months working with a nutritionist and 6 months on Weight Watchers. Thank-you in advance for any help in this crazy journey!

Hi..i Have Lupus And I Want To Have The Lapband
I also have Lupus, my lupus doctor and my regular doctor both feel that I should be fine to have the surgery. I am in the beginning stages of this and I too hope the surgeon and insurance will say yes to the surgery. My medical doctor told me that when I go to my consultation I should take a letter from my rheumatologist stating he feels it would only benefit me. Hope this helps and I hope we both hear "YES"!!
