:update: For those of us who are members of the NEA and are trying to figure out how to pay for this procedure, we can get personal loans and lines of credit through the NEA right now with the lowest APRs I've been able to find in the past month and half of research! Go to www.nea.org to find out more.

:update: I finally found an acceptable loan and was apporved yesterday afternoon. I will be contacting Precision Surgery this morning and finding out what all I have to do to get this ball rolling!!!! If anyone out there is a teacher and trying to figure out how to afford this, members of the NEA can get personal loans and lines of credit with the lowest interest rates I've found in the past month and half!:clap2:

Welcome priss! I've been doing the liquid diet for a few weeks now, and I pour the slim fast on ice and that seems to help. I'm not banded yet, just trying to prove to myself that I can stick to the diet...and hey, why not try to lose as much as possible while I'm financial limbo for the cost of surgery. Neither of the loan's APRs were acceptable, so I'm still looking. It may take me a while, but I MEAN to do this! I'm trying to be patient...trying. Maybe, a whole pile of $ will drop from the sky and help me out! I see why folks go to MX to get this done now. I really like Drs. H & K, though and I just know I will figure out how to use them. Y'all keep hanging in there, I'm rootin' for ya!

I just thought of another question... How are y'all doing at taking pills? I have to take a meduim sized BP pill and a large allergy pill in the mornings. I've read about cutting them and dissolving them in water, but can you guys take pills?

The YWCA is also where Weight Wacthers use to meet to. I figure some of us have been to those meeting too! I haven't been for a check up or anything yet. I was told I had to pay up front for everything. I'm going to call and apply for two loans this evening and when I chose one and get all the paperwork taken care of, I'm going to call PS and schedule everything I need to do and hopefully have surgery on or around the first week of June.

GO Sugarbear! Good job! I'm glad it didn't hurt too bad. How many weeks out are you? I found a little $ from my tax return to go toward surgery today! YEAH! I'm slowly scrapping it together!

My sleep study is a St. Micahel's. My brother had it done at Christmas (but in VA) and he proved to be one of the worst cases they had seen there, they stopped counting him not breathing at 400+ times! I'm a little nervous that I might be that bad, but I don't snore near as much as he does. I do have a lot of trouble with waking up 10+ times at night though. Maybe the study can help with that. I'm just excited to hurry up and move toward getting banded...keeping my courage up is proving to be my biggest obstacle.

My insruance won't pay for anything that isn't at the hospital. So I HAVE to go.

I have my sleep study scheduled for Friday the 13th! My lucky day! :notagree I guess since I'm a teacher and our "unsurance" won't cover the surgery, I won't have to have the psych evaluation? Are there any other tests I need to get on the ball with scheduling?? Lisaransom1 welcome and I'm sorry for your loss. These girls have really helped me and encouraged me. I'm greatful there's such nice folks around our area to help us out with their honesty! Vlynnfogg, have you had any other problems with adjusting to your new "set-up" while teaching. I'm hoping there won't be any problems for me since I'm doing it as soon as we're out for summer.

I'm thinking up a lot of questions today, I'm sorry to keep bugging. As soon as I find out what my tax return says, I'm scheduling surgery.:clap2: Anyway, right after surgery, when do you have your first visit post op? Then the second? I'm originally from VA, and I'd like to go home at the end of the summer if I'm well enough to travel. Or should I stay close to the docs?

Can you guys eat pasta without it making you feel sick? When you say you have problems eating bread, etc., could you be more specific as to what the problems are and how to solve/get over them? Just trying to get prepared! Thanks!

I appreciate all the help I can get trying to find financing! Thank you! I've been trying this pre op diet at home (just to make sure I can do it) and I've lost about 10 lbs as of this morning. This is the most I've lost in a long time while trying whole-heartedly at something. I think I'll keep at it while I'm looking for payment options. You guys hang in there. I'm rootin' for ya!

Sugarbear, it sounds like you're doing great. :clap2: I can't wait until I can be where you're at right now! I'm doing good, a little disappointed because my insurance officially refused the surgery because of it's exclusion in the policy. Right now, just trying to find a loan that will cover everything and fit into the family budget too. :rolleyes I'm also trying to keep my courage up to get this done as soon as school is out in June. I have to be honest that I've almost given up once this week, but I keep reading all these stories and looking at the before and after pictures to try to keep myself motivated. I'm the type that if given too long to think about something like this I can scare myself out of it. But I'm hanging in there!

How badly injured was the patient? I'm new to all this, sorry for my ignorance. IF something like that happens to you, can you function normally after????

You're right, I just figured that since I'm paying $325+ a month for coverage that it might actually pay for something that I really need. Everytime something major comes up they back out or tie it up to where it takes so long to get it approved, you give up on trying. and take your chances. At the moment, I'm entertaining loans just like everybody else. It's just disheartening. Even if we were able to get the policies to change, I'd like to have the surgery before they'd have it all mapped out. I hate for others to have to go through all this, when it's something that can save lives! So I'm going to keep trying to make the policy makers aware for the rest of the school year. I'm just sick of all this sorry insurance I'm paying for!

I went to the Seminar last night and I am so ready to do this! I found out my insurance definetly won't pay though, so that's my last hurdle to moving forward. It sounds like you guys are all doing well! Keep up the good work!

Can any of you compare lap band surgery to a c-section surgery?

Another doctor told me good things about Dr. Wellborn, have any of you had a banding by him? Was it a good experience?
