www.myfitnesspal.com This a GREAT food and exercise diary! I really like that it predicts how much you will weigh in 5 weeks when you log your food for the day. What a motivator!

I left the forum while I was working on my National Board Certification, just found out I passed after 400+ hours outside the classroom worth of work! I am now ready to rededicate myself to my lapband while I work on more graduate work. I just started boot camp and counting calories, Protein, and fat this past week. I only lost 15lbs last year, but I must be honest in that I didn't try very hard and was discouraged since I've thrown up most of the time I've had the band. I also couldn't tolerate fills very well either. I've had tests but they could find no reason for the vomiting. I stated seeing an allergist this Fall and have learned that I have SEVER allergies which was causing heavy, thick mucus production while I slept. My allergist and I think this was the cause of the vomiting. I've started allergy shots, and many allergy drugs and have thrown up little since the first month in! I plan on heading back to Precision Surgery and getting started again in the right direction. I might even be able to tolerate a decent fill now too. I hope others who have been sick with their band will get allergy testing...I really think this has been the root of my problem. This is the first time since I've been banded that I feel "normal" again after surgery! I will keep you posted on how this new attempt at losing the rest of my weight goes. Let me know if you're out there!

I had an unfill too back on October and another semi tongue lashing from Dr. H., but it didn't bother me this time. I've let me exercise fall by the way side since starting my National Certification and I just can't fit it in. I do plan on hitting the gym in March when I have to turn everythin in. Gus is getting a Wii from Santa and I think Santa's getting me a Wii fit program and the women's fit program, so hopefully I can get up at 4:30 and do that before school until I can get back in the gym. Though I have to admit I weight about 20lbs less then when I was going to the gym, but I don't feel as energetic. I go back for a check up today since I was so tight last time. I want a teeny fill, but if I see Dr. K, she wammies me every time! Hopefully I won't have to go back for an unfill tomorrow.

Hey, I had my follow up MRI on Wednesday and it was the best possible news. It appears to just be a birth defect on my pituatary and nothing more. I have to do monitoring MRIs for 5 years and then I'm released. Now I can get focused on my band. I have a fill schuedled for Monday though I'm not sure I need one. I see really tight all of a sudden. I think I will still go since I haven't been back since February and have been distracted with the brain tumor thing. TP I will try to remember to post with you, though I'm super busy...I'll do my best... I've had one cup of hot tea today with 1tsp sugar. Will have 1 egg when/if my band permits for late breakfast!

It's gettin' might quiet around here! Hopefully no news is good news and we're all being very successful??? Getting a fill at the end of Oct. haven't had one since Feb. b/c my PCP found a pituatary (sp?) tumor and I had to drive back and forth to Little Rock to decided on brain surgery or not. Nothing life threatening, but might be the cause of being overweight. Right now I have another MRI scheduled for November 4th, if it doesn't change then I think I won't have to have surgery. Lap band wise, things are kind of holding, not losing but not gaining either. How's everyone else???

julie, I think people expect to lose more weight in the 1st year than they actually do and that is frustraiting. Most research says it take 5 years to get to where you want. I had a hard time during the first year too. I just celebrated my 2nd and am comfortable with how it's going. I took almost that whole year to figure out how my body and my mind reacts to the band. My only advice is, keep doing what the docs tell you to. If you aren't happy, keep seeing them until they get you to your sweet spot. I love my band.

I just realized that today was my bandaversary! I've lost about 15lbs more than my tickers says because I started losing before surgery, but I only count post surgery weight since that's what's on file at ps.

I lost myhair too and it never has grown back as thick. I had SUPER thick hair before surgery and now I have normal thick hair. Biotin helps and so does upping your protein. You can't really tell it's helping until about 2 months after starting it.

way to go Julie. I just bought the new boost protein...has 15g protein and isn't as big as slimfast. Tastes about the same as slimfast, for me, I like it better!

1st year of aftercare is great after that, you're not as important to them. I was a year out at my buttchewing, so I don't mind they don't want to see me as much! I still get nervous when I go.

Blondy, I've had a lot of trouble from my band, but I am positive it was the right decision. The first year, I was way tight with few fills, and very uncomfortable, but found out last summer I had gastritis and started prilosec and it fixed everything. I still can only tolerate a tiny fill, but I don't hurt like I did and I know what I'm doing now that I feel normal with my band. I have never lost this much weight before in my life. Even on phen phen I lost only 75lbs and gained that back plus about 40 more. I didn't realize how bad I felt until I felt good. I have to admit that I haven't been to the gym in a couple of months, but last summer I was able to run (yes run!) on an elliptical machine 7 miles in 45 minutes. Considering a year before that it took me 45 mins to walk 1/2 mile and I was killed when I finished. I can play with my son and chase him now too. Not to mention it felt soooooo good when he was able to get his little arms around my waist the first time. So yes, it's all been worth it. My quality of life is much better...even if something terrible happens and I have to lose this band....I've had two great years!

here's another thought...I started out needing to lose 173lbs, I thought that sounded impossible. I can't believe I'm halfway finished. 86lbs to lose is still a lot, but it sounds a heck of a lot better than 173!

I think we expect to have all out weight lost in the 1st year. I'm giving myself 5 years to get rid of it. Everything I've read says we will lose about 80% of out extra weight by then. I'm celebrating a small NSV, I was able to wear just about anything in a "normal" size store for the first time in my life, granted it was their largest size, but it was no nice, not to HAVE to go to the dat girl store!

awww, Julie, I hate that you feel bad. I've been where you're at and you have the right attitude. Just face the music. Set your mind to change even if it's just one lb. Last summer I gained 12lbs! That's when I received Dr. H.'s chewing, and I felt humiliated too when I left. I decided then to stand up for myself from now on even to the scary doctors. I knew I had not followed the rule and admitted it and that's all you can do. If you've already "faced the music" that's all you have to do. Today's a new day. Start over. Put all that guilt and humiliation behind you and place one foot in front of the other and procede to do what you're supposed to do. Follow the rules as best you can and take it a day at a time. It helped me to just start all over with the liquids, etc. It was like hitting a reset button, not to mention MUCH easier with the band. Once I did the whole post op thing again on my own, it helped me to know I can beat what's wrong in my head. Don't waste any more time feeling bad, only feel good by doing what you're "supposed" to do.

Way to go. Keep us posted on being preggers with the band. I'm considering having another in a few years!

Just remember, most of the research shows that bandsters don't usually reach their goal weight until 5 years out, but we maintain it better. Keep your head up! I was stuck (doing all the right things) for most of my 2nd year and now I'm losing again. Julie, I too am not up for another "chewing." Should it happen again, I'll be doing some "chewing" of my own. That doesn't help the situation at all. Some times tough love is appropriate, but in this situation, it doesn't help me.

Congratulations! Deedee, just subscribe to the thread. I think it's pretty normal for some of us to only tolerate liquids in the morning. I've been like that from the start. I can't really eat solid food until about 2pm. Just try to keep the protein up in you liquids. If you can find an exercise buddy that holds you accountable, that has helped me more than anything. I know that if we've made a date to work out, I will disappoint her if I don't show because I don't "feel" like it.

I used (still do) the EAS drinks that are premixed at Walmart. They are about $1 a piece. I've tried EVERY kind of protein drink I can find, and I think they taste the lease offensive and they deliver more protein with will help you feel better after surgery.

TP hang in there, I gained 12lbs last summer and had not lost any for over a year. I just recently started losing again. I REALLY TRIED hard to do the preop diet on the last fill, and it seems to be working to "reset" my metabolism. My last fill was WAY too tight and I had to go back the next day to loosen it, and again later in the same week. They ended up taking out MORE than what I had previously had in it for about 2-3 months and I lost. I guess there's something to that "Sweet spot" business. Just keep trying hard to do your best, it's all any of us can do. Don't feel bad.

I'm down 15lbs since my last fill, I hope I can keep i tthat way. Julie hang in there, I lost about 60lbs and pleateaued for about a year. Keep trying, I just recently started losing again. Today's a new day, take a chance and start over. I did the post op diet to start over and it's helping! I think I might do that every time I pleateau!
