June 2012 Sleevers Post Op Check In

MinaT, I am so sorry that you have gone through so much. I am truly sorry for the loss of your friend and your pet. How can you NOT be grouchy? You have gone through so much! Don't be down on yourself if you DO get cranky. All things considered, you are doing a very great job dealing with it all! You have had complications that you are moving past. You have dealt with personal tragedy. That is a LOT! Each day, I pray, will continue to get better physically AND emotionally for you. I am exactly 1 week out today. I have my first follow up appointment today. I get to start full liquids. I can say, with complete honesty, that I haven't really felt any true hunger. I have to admit that makes getting my protein drinks and water in VERY hard. I guess I am going to have to set myself an alarm or something to just eat (ok, drink) when I need to because otherwise, I will NEVER hit my protein goals. I am already struggling to get my fluids in, but that improves daily. I know we aren't really supposed to be worried about weight this early, but I did weigh myself. I haven't lost anything but the fluids I gained in the hospital from the IV bags. That is a little discouraging. I decided to measure myself, and I have lost some inches in places. My belly is still very swollen though. I hope everyone is doing well!

    Food Question

For the yogurt, I purchased plain greek yogurt. That has only 9 g sugar compared to the kind with fruit. I was actually told to avoid the kind with fruit in it because of the skins, seeds, and fruit chunks. I put a couple of splenda packets in the plain along with a splash of some flavor extract (I've been using almond extract and cherry flavored extract).

1 Week Post Op Appointment Tomorrow(-:

My name is Valerie. I've actually thought about the support meetings, although I was considering the weekly meetings they have during the day, but I will also try to make it to some of the monthly meetings. I know I need the support. . See you tomorrow (later today)!

I was SO thrilled when it finally happened! Who would ever have thought we would be GLAD for that?!?!?!

Unjury Protein: Is It Just Me...

Just keep in mind, even the ones you like now, you may HATE after your surgery so don't buy large quantities of any of them. I'm learning that one the hard way.

You're very welcome. I am not sure about everyone, but what you are going through was a fear of mine so I get it. I hope you can get it resolved soon!

Unjury Protein: Is It Just Me...

I really liked the chicken soup flavor prior to surgery. I can't stomach it after... I had the unflavored when I had my lapband and it was ok. I can only assume it because of the taste change with the sleeve that is causing my dislike since I DID like it before. Now I am struggling to find anything that tastes good. I am ready for something more substantial even if it is just pureed beans.

I hope that insurance will cover it or something. I would also STILL contact the surgeon that did your surgery. Maybe they can pay for the removal? I am truly sorry that you are going through this. It has to be tough.
  10. I had surgery on June 28th. I don't know what my weightloss is because I haven't weighed myself. I am going to let my doctor do it tomorrow at my 1 week follow up. I am on clears basically until tomorrow. I start full liquids tomorrow. I am ready for pureed! I want some beans or some tuna! Something that is not completely liquids! If I NEVER see chicken broth again...

    Where Do I Fit In?

Hi. I know that you are disappointed that you didn't get your sleeve done, however it may be a blessing in disquise. This will allow your tummy time to heal itself from the band. You will have less chances of leaks. I am a revision, and I will admit that waking up without and band AND without a sleeve was my biggest fear. There are several doctors that won't do the surgeries together. The have the patients wait at least 6 months to a year before attempting the sleeve. I wish you the best! I hope that your tummy heals quickly, and that you are able to get your sleeve in 6 months with no problems!
  12. I can say honestly that it didn't really bother me. I am making noise to my DH just because I can, but the thought of eating ribs really didn't appeal to me. Strange? It seems strange to me! I am still on liquids, but I didn't miss eating them. I didn't crave a taste. I am sick to death of my liquids, but nothing cooked today spoke to me like it would have prior to surgery.

It sounds very strange. No one that I know that is a revision still has their port. I would definitely question the doctor about why it wasn't taken out when they took out the band.

    Port Left In :(

wow. I can't believe they left that in! What is the point?!?!?! That was one of the first things I checked for when I woke up from surgery. My doctor even used the same incision point to take the port out that he used to put it in.

    Any June Sleevers?

I know your question wasn't to me, but... . I was revised from band to sleeve on the 28th, it is definitely better day by day. I'm still working my way up to getting my fluids in. That seems to also be easier every day. Glad you are doing well!

    My First Appointment

I understand. It not only hurts if I don't sip, it makes me sick to my stomach. The couple times that I have dry heaved since surgery was after taking a sip that was too large.
  17. I'm new to the sleeve, however when I had my leak check after surgery, the doctor did see some dialation where my lapband sat. He said that it could take anywhere from a month to several months to correct itself. Hopefully it won't affect your restriction much.

    My First Appointment

I'm sorry you have had such trouble. I know all about the horrid cycles with PCOS. I hope that you are able to get your fluid intake up to avoid going back to the hospital. That is one of my fears, as well. I have gotten more in today than before, BUT I am still way behind on my intake. It is so hard to constantly sip sip sip. I hope you feel better soon!

    Any June Sleevers?

I hope they let you go home soon! I am truly sorry that things haven't gone exactly well. Prayers for a speedy recovery!
  20. I am so there with you. I am not really hurting, but I have no energy. I am struggling to get my fluids in, but I am still trying. I think we will do better once we can start adding in more than the clear liquids. Our appointments are at the same time on Thursday, so hopefully they will tell us both to add in Protein and maybe cream Soups or something. At this point, just keep listening to your body. If it says sleep, do that. I have been sitting up for a few minutes at a time, but even that wears me out. We will get better as time goes on.

    Dehydrated

You're welcome. If you have some Gatorade in your house, drink that to get your electrolytes up. I would never have imagined how hard it is to get in all of the required fluids, but I'm struggling right along with you. Good luck and keep sipping!

    Dehydrated

I would start drinking the fluids AND put a call in to your doctor to let them decide if you need to go to the ER.
