Today is the day - Surgery in a few hours!
Rycherchick replied to anewmeahead's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Luck to you and I am right there with you today, Mine is at 3pm and have to leave here shortly, the Hosp is an hour away and I think I have to be there 2 hrs prior. I will try to post if I can but for some reason I have the Vertical sleeve talk app on my phone but it does not let me post ony read, I post from my PC. Maybe I will figure out a way to do that during my down time,... May love and blessings to all esp those whose lives will change today like mine. I am hopiand praying that a peaceful calm will wash over me the closer I get. Maybe they will give me a sedati for my nerves just before. Take care all and send me good vibes and thoughts and same to other 30'ers today. xoxoxoxo Janice -
Hey ladies and Gents, Are you guys tiref me yet? lol I have a question. My surgery as you all know is tomorrow at 3 and My Doc did not require a pre op diet or any kind of prep before hand. I just had a BLT on sourdough panini type bread ( not as big) and no mayo cuz I hate it and I had my last little tiny cup of B&J's Choc fudge brownie Ice cream sohere it is, Will all of that clear my stomach by the time I have my surgery I am thinking yes but what if I dont goo the bathroom will it still be okay since he isnt working on my intestines? I am just a bundle of nerves andI just know Peace and calm will wash over me tomorrow. ( I hope) Thanks all Jan

They will not let you, it goes against the Bio hazzard rules and stuff. I wasnt even allowed to keep my wisdom tooth, I think its a new thing.
-
It will get better. I am assuming cuz I wont know til after tomorrow but I think its normal. You are in mourning, its grief. We gave up something we loved and turned to in times of need. Itsonly temporary. You will get thru this and you will one day be able to eat yur faves but just in moderation. You will get better and maybe a good cry is all you need. If the feelings do not subside tho you may want to talkto youdoctor. Be happy sweetie

The closer to my date, the scareder I am.
Rycherchick replied to Rycherchick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone for talking me down. I woke up at 2am to tinkle and could not get back to sleep for the fear and racing thoughts. I was online for 3 hours in the wee hrs researching everything. I was even tearful. I have had other more dangerous invasive surgeries where I was under for 5 hours at a time but That was a hip surgery and I was at the height of my painkiller addiction so I knew the payoff was that I would have more pills. ( I did not have surgery just to get pain pills lol although maybe someone in this world may have, I was born with congenital hip displaysia and HAD to have it done) This time is different because I am clean 7 yrs and I have said no to the Opiates. And being free and clear of mind altering meds makes me hyper Anxious. I keep telling myself I will be fine and its all in my head but I did have to break down and ask my doc for a minor Tranq. just so I can sleep and trust me I HATED doing it but I have to sleep cuz I have one more day at work and Wed is my big day. Thanks for letting me vent and be so open about all of this and thanks to all who replied and made me feel better. I will sigh a huge sigh of relief on Wed evening when all is said and done and hopefully ( toes crossed) no complications! Thanks Dolls, Jan -
Surgery at 500 pounds?
Rycherchick replied to hayleyx33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most Doctors will most likely have u loose weight before surgery. You will be on a pre-op diet. I didnt have to although I wish I had buI am a lower BMI Good Luck. -
10 years banded, not sure what to do.
Rycherchick replied to MelissaGG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You wentthr ough all of that to get the band and did not lose any weight? Have you considered disbanding and having the sleeve? -
Frustrated, impatient, going crazy...
Rycherchick replied to Jen35's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you are having a hard time. Hang in there and be persistant and it will all work out. I started my process last January and am just now about to have Surgery on Wed. I had a very easy time of it my WL clinic did all the work and Iwas approved on the first try. The reason it took this long was my fault and with how I had to scedule my appts. I only had to do the 3 mos diet. It seems like it takes forever but it will be here before you know it. Good Luck -
QUESTION: What made you decide to be sleeved OVER gastric bypass?
Rycherchick replied to READY4CHANGE2013's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am still Pre surgery and I have my date with Dr Small on Wed. I have a lower BMI and I jusknew I didn want the lap band. I only want to lose 70-80 pounds. I resersched all of the surgeries and I also thankfully hve no co morbidities,I just knew I didnt want to loose my hair and take compounded vitamins ( expensive) for the rest of my life. Forget whathe nurse says what does he Doctor say?Research them all and you will find the one thatis right for you. Years ago I knew a woman who was 435 and she had Gastric bypass in 2001 and lost 200 pounds. We were roughly the same weight except that she was happy where she was and I wasnt. Good luck toyou! -
Boyfriend totally against WLS dont know what to do
Rycherchick replied to christy38's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tell your bf its not a way out its a tool. If he is not behind you then he is a tool. Just kidding. Let him come on here and read some of the posts. Its probably just fear talking. People always say to me, whe I tell them I am having surgery in 8 days that Oh your'e not that big, Blah blah and I realized I have a lot of really nice friends but they are not helping me. I am doing this for me and luckily my hubby is supportive. Your BF will get there. -
Only 2 weeks left until surgery
Rycherchick commented on LifetimeLoser's blog entry in LifetimeLoser's Blog
I too have my date on Jan 3oth. My Dr does not require a liquid diet or any diet before hand and now I kinda wish he did. I afalling into the ' Last time I am gonna eat this" trap. I have had a BLT, Went to Cold stone and have be having some Ben and Jerrys full fat Ice cream insead of the Fro yo. I am so dedicated to doing well on this that I am saying goodbye to these thgs because My husband has Diabetes and he habeen eating better than I. After my all liquid portion I m all healthy foods. Good luck sweetie. -
That is exactly how it feels, just like being pregnant the first time although the first time for me was quite a while ago as my oldest is 28. Yu are nervous an excited and just cant wait for the day to come and you clean your house like crazy- or is that just me lol?
-
Juny , what is your biggest fear is it the lifestyle change or the actual surgery itself? I cannot offer any sage wisdom because I myself am pre-op But I can do all the things I need to do post surgery in a snap, I am just having a hard time with actually going under. I have all the confidence in te world in my Dr but I just fear the unknown and HATE being conscious. SCARY! Maybe some others can talku down and make you feel better about it. I know they have for me.

Sorry to hear that. It sucks when you have your heart set on something and it seems so out of reach. I started this process on Jan 30 of 12 and I will have my surgery Jan 30. It took some time in between appointments and I had to do the 3 mos Dr Supervised diet. I was lucky in the respect that it only took 30 days for Ins to approve me and the first time. I was really thinking they wouldnot because I have a lower BMI and no Co morbidities but it did help to have had a hip replacement ( born with Congenital hip displaysia) and GERD neither was a result of my being ovwerweight but the longer I was I am sure prob would arise. I needed this whole year to reaearch and process all this info and decide if I really wanted this. I hope time goes by fast for you. I know it all depends on what diff Ins companies require. Good Luck... Jan

Can I find out if anyone here has my same Doctor?
Rycherchick posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I have the utmost Confidence in my Doctor can I find out if anyone else has had him and can I find out more info on him? I know he has had 4 years experiance and that is fine with me better than 4 mos lol -
Hello, I am fairly new onhere although I have been readng and lurking for about a monthor so. I am due to have surgey on Jan 30. I don't have to do a liquid diet but I do have to do a pre-op class next Tuesday. I was thin til I had my first baby in 1984. I was just out of high school when I go pregnant and for 6 mos I hid it from my family. After they all found out in my 6th month I ate everything that was not nailed down. My Bf's mother had a veritable bakery in her house and every night it was cake, donuts, ice cream and I gave myself license to eat. I was devastated when I was being discharged from the hospital and saw a scale and had only lost 10 pounds. I had gained 50! So Al thru the years I kept that extra 40 lbs and when I met my husband, I put on more weight and wore a size 20 wedding gown 5 years later we had a baby and I really didnt gain that much but had a hip replacement in 202 and became very fond of the painkillers. I used abused and misused painkillers after that for many years and finally got off them and clean in 06. So since 06 my new addiction is Ben and Jerry's Phish fod fro yo. I gained an additional 20 pounds in these 7 years. All that to ask. How do you deal with cravings after surgery? I have a ferocious sweet tooth at times and I know it is due to the med I take to replace the painkillers ( Its called Suboxone) Somtime after surgery I wanna go down and off this med but in the meantime how do you all handle the cravings after surgery? Will they subside after I have detoxed from sugar? hanks ladies and gents. Its weird whenever I post here my keyboard sticks lol

When do you let your employer know?
Rycherchick replied to punzel426's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am lucky in the respect that I work for a small company and my boss and I are friends, we know of each others struggles. I told her in 2011 that I was going to see a bariatric surgeon and she was very supportive. When I do see her ( she works Mon, Thurs and Fris) She keeps telling me how excited SHE is lol I feel very lucky and feel like all my ducks are in a row and will be fine. -
Newbie! Advice please!
Rycherchick replied to jennaleigh1992's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As for me it will be one year to the day that I went to my first Consult Jan 30 2012 and to my surgery date Jan 30 2013. I live about an hour away from The WL center and due to my schedule and my husbands ( I wanted him there at every appointment with me) at some appointments it was a few months at a time and I am so glad I did not rush it. I like to do things in my own timetable and I just think it was meant to be this way. I got my Ins approval in mid November but I wanted to wait until after the Holidays were over also. Good luck newbie -
