  1. Hi I'm new on this had my surgery jan 3 any advice on how to get food out my mind and when will I be able to taste food

I ate sf Jello and pudding for like a a week I couldn't stomach Protein drinks for about a month I ate some egg whites around day 8 post op and I was fine. I had surgery at Lutheran in Brooklyn 9/17 I've lost 40 lbs post op. so far. You'll stop thinking about food so much when you over eat a few times. For me it feels like I'm having a heart attack when I over eat.

  2. How do you know if food gets stuck?

I'm on soft foods and I get really full quick. I know I'm full when I feel food in my chest. So I stop after about 1/4cup or less. But I start thinking that maybe when I feel it in my chest that means its stuck??? Maybe I'm just confusing it with fullness.

You'll know. As soon as you start to feel full Stop eating. The first few days post op it took me an entire day to eat a sugar free Jello a week or so after that I could suck one of Those jellos back in a few mins. Then I started to push it. I ignored my body and kept eating and it felt like I was having a heart attack. I had to throw up to make the pain go away.

  3. I had the surgery on Oct 11 and went back to work yesterday. Feeling GREAT. I was off the pain meds within 36 hours and was totally pain free and getting around like nothing happened. The post-op liquids are doing great and I really could have gone back to work on Monday. Incisions are healing quickly and I am truly amazed at the recovery. Energy level is up and life is good. I was really apprehensive after reading all of the stories here in the forum' date=' but I guess I am the exception.

I was in the O.R. at 7:30 AM and back at home at 11AM the next day.

Started this journey on May 4th at 474 and was determined to get below 400 for the surgery. after insurance hassles/delays, I wheeled into the O.R at 397 lbs. Since the surgery (9 days), I hit 387 today; that is 28% of my goal. I have inspired my entire family to loose with me and drop the LBS!

I would definately do this again and encourage others. I think I had the best surgeon and surgical team in the world!

That's wonderful! I went back to work a week later but I was in pain for about 3 weeks. Congratulations on your amazing weight loss

  4. Congrats! My surgery is nov 6th. That is 4 days before my birthday. I am hoping it will be the best birthday present ever!

It will be! I'm not going to lie my first week was pretty horrible but I was only out of work for a week and within 3 weeks I felt back to normal. I did horrible on my pre op diet I lost nothing really because I gained 5lbs before I started my pre op diet . But now one month and 2 days post op I'm down 21lbs. And I ate cake twice this week.

  5. Manhattan...that's awesome. There must be quite a few bike commuters there. Here (Houston)' date=' I feel like I'm the only one. When I rode to work, my coworkers thought I was nuts. They could not wrap there minds around the idea of using anything other than a car to get to work. They couldn't wait to tell me how it was just a matter of time before I got killed. Even though I had a very carefully planned route, lights, reflective clothing, and I always ride like I'm invisible. Still, people here don't get it.

How I would love to live in a place where there were enough cyclists that the cars at least had to acknowledge you. Here, the only acknowledgement I get is when they yell and flip me off because I delayed their trip 3 seconds.

And now that I live in the country, there are way less cars, but WAY more dogs. Let me know how the commuting goes once you start back.[/quote']

Haha well New York is not the place for you. The police have it out of bike riders. This guy last week got $400 bucks in tickets on one stop. They get ticketed as much as cars and cars show you no respect same as people walking. I've kicked many of cabs in the afternoon and I'm always yelling at people in my way. It gets a lot of aggression out. It also helps that I bike at 5:30 in the morning so my ride to work is pretty nice because not a lot of people are out at that time.

  6. Glad to see another bicycle commuter on here. I thought I was the only one. I rode to work several times a week for many years. Earlier this year I moved way out of town in the country. It's nice having a few acres but I can no longer ride to work (50 miles). I still ride regularly though. I think I started riding very gingerly about 4 weeks out...maybe 5 miles. Slowly started picking it up at 6 weeks. But I felt great. Listen to your body. Don't push yourself. You will really test those ab muscles cycling so be sure they are healed.

I started biking because I hate the subway and the MTA fees keep going up. But now I love watching the sunrise over manhattan and all the Beautiful Scenery you miss when you're too busy trying to catch a train. Hopefully it won't be too cold when I reach my 6 week mark in 2 weeks
