MountainMan reacted to ☠carolinagirl☠ in Please respond if you know anything about lab band surgery
any WLS has complications
no one is better than the other
i find it basically boil down to what you want......and what you truly want to do
what happens to ms joe blow may or may not happen to you.......who can say, none of us can see into the future........which ever you get, do your best and comply to how to use it..
ps, that small risk that the band (has) was well worth the risk for me
i got my mobility back and my life........yes, i'd do it again in a second.......
and i'd recommend it to anyone who asked BUT stress, unless you change what you eat, begin to exercise and have a mental attitude change, NO WLS will help.....my opinion

MountainMan got a reaction from nursecheryl in Please respond if you know anything about lab band surgery
For what it's worth...I am an RN who has been banded since March 2012. I'm just a few pounds shy of my goal and will probably revise it downward another 15 pounds. My experience with the band has been nothing but positive. I credit that to having an experienced, skilled surgeon in a highly accredited bariatric program, and my compliance with follow-up. As a nurse I researched my options exhaustively! There are naysayers to be sure, and people who have not been successful (often due to noncompliance in my opinion). A thorough look at the literature will show the band is a great option with the lowest mortality rate. And while there can be complications, they are minor relative to the complications with the other surgeries. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide.

MountainMan reacted to ☠carolinagirl☠ in Any Happy Bandsters Out There With 5 or More Years Of Banding?
sorry but to gain weight, one must eat more calories then one burns off band or no band...sleeve or bypass
every person with a weight problem eats too much and the wrong things aka unhealthy choices
the band does work
not with everyone as things do happen...
bands fault.....patients fault or a combo of both
or a crap doctor or whatever reason
all anyone can do is make the best of whatever WLS one chooses to get

MountainMan reacted to Iwilldothis2 in If you could tell your pre-surgery self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Thank you for posting this one. Today is my BIG day! I feel like I'm shifting my addiction from food to this forum...LOL! Can't wait for my ticker to show some progress now. My new life begins in just a few hours. Please keep positive thoughts for me over the next few days. I am so happy to begin this journey to feeling accomplished and really great again.

I would tell myself to start learning to chew slow and not drink while I eat.

MountainMan got a reaction from Jim1967 in Where Are You in Your Weight Loss Journey?
I'm eight pounds from my goal weight, and thrilled beyond belief with my band. I truly never thought I'd be here. My weight loss has slowed to a crawl, probably because I could use a fill, but I'm satisfied as long as the trend is downward. I've heard some say the last 10 pounds take several months. I no longer doubt that I can be successful in maintenance. For the first time in my life I am confident and actually planning for success instead of fearing failure.

MountainMan got a reaction from donna12 in Surgery on Thursday.... What else do i Need to buy to prepare?
I also didn't use most of what I bought. The one essential thing for me was a heating pad. I would have been lost without it! Don't judge your experience by anyone else...I expected to be back on my feet in a few days with minimal problems, but it was a week before I could lay down comfortably. Many people swear by the Gas-X strips but they did nothing for me. Repeated short walks around the house helped more than anything. Best of luck to you!

MountainMan reacted to Terry Poperszky in Pain in left shoulder??
Had it at first, it went away, but came back when I hit the green zone. It is my "soft stop" eating too much, too fast or not chewing enough will generate pain in my left shoulder. It is Mistress Band's way of letting me know that she is still there, and still in control.
