  1. I'm sorry to hear your in such a low spot! Can you reach out to your surgery center to see about joining a support group or a buddy in your area? Or talking to a therepist? You need to get some help, remember why you did this in the first place. What are you eating? Are you getting in any exercise each day, tell us more about you and your situation so others can jump in with sugguestions. Take Care!
  2. WOW, good for you! I hope am as lucky as you, coming home in just two days is wonderful! Good Luck!
  3. Well I went yesterday for my first appointment. BMI 36.1, so I meet that requirement (remember I have diabetes and high triglycerides). Met with the endocrinologist (for diabetes) I have to get my blood sugar down under a 8A1C, currently at 9.3, had a ton of blood work done, met with nutritionist, and a surgery coordinator. Dr told me I have a 90-95% chance of leaving the hospital without my insulin pump! How awesome that will be! The surgery coordinator, gave me a list of requirements for my insurance. One BIG problem.....I have to give a 3 year weight history, well I have that, but I having not been over a 35 BMI for 3 years. My BMI blow up after being put on insulin. And continues to raise. I have been obese for years, but not morbid obese until the past year or so. I ask if my BMI had to be at 35+ for the past 3 years to be approved, she said, "normally, however it depends whose desk it lands on and sometimes what co-morbiditys you have"! I have called my insurance (CIGNA) and searched and searched everything I can find on the web and no where does it say that being at my current BMI for 3 years is required for approval. Dr said I have MAJOR insulin resistant which means, I make insulin, I take insulin, but my body cells won't allow it in. This mean I have to take more insulin!!! OMG, which causes more weight gain, it's a vicious cycle! So now of course I'm upset! The Dr said the surgery is the best thing I can do, to put my diabetes in remission and get off all the meds I'm on. I'm going to proceed. My company's insurance is self-funded, which I've read I can appeal with my employer if Cigna denies me. I can't imagine them denying me when I lay in front of them how much they pay out every year for all my medicine and Dr visits due to my diabetes! They will save a tone of money in the long run. So now I have to track my blood sugar before every meal for 5 days and fax that back to the endocrinologist . Then he will adjust my insulin! I have to make an appoint of course for my psych visit. Then I have to have a endoscopy of my esophagus, I also have major acid reflux and Barrettes esophagus. The surgeon wants to let at the "territory" before he operates. Plus 3 month of classes/diet. I suddenly feel like my head is falling off!!! It's a lot! I'm going to try and remain positive I need to make this happen! Ren
  4. I'm going for my first appointment today also! You are making the right decision! We can do this together! Good Luck
  5. My first appointment (consultation) was supposed to be on August 28th, however the hospital called this morning and I go on Friday! Now I'm really nervous for some reason. Anything I should be sure to asked about during this first visit? Thanks!
  6. Do you have diabetes by chance? I do and I have some of those same symptoms happening and was wondering the same thing.
  7. I'm pre-op. Sounds like this a very common condition. I honestly don't know how I'll feel about sleeping with a mask on....that kinda freaks me out....
  8. That's crazy! I would have never thought all this could happen to me just from snoring! I do wake up with a headache just about everyday, some days it last all day long! thanks for the replies!
  9. So.....I never thought I had sleep apnea, however, now I think I might. I understand the the center I'm using will have me tested for that, however I wondering if that's what's been wrong with me for so long? I snore. I have not felt rested after sleeping 8-9 hrs a night in EVER! I can't focus at work, it's really starting to be an issue, I go from one thought to the next and back again. I feel as though I'm drugging through the day while having an out of body experience, does that make sense? I could close my eyes at anytime on any day, because I feel so sleepy. I never really though about this until a friend who is having the surgery, mentioned her sleep apnea to me.... It will be interesting to see what the sleep study says!
  10. Trust me (I have type II diabetes) you are doing the RIGHT thing!
  11. WOW, I'm really sorry too that this happened to you. I'm thankful that my closest friends are very supportive, my sister on the other hand is very backward thinking and doesn't research or read about anything so she is really ignorant about the subject, I've not told her that I have a consult in a few weeks, but when I brought up the idea to her, she went off. "You are not fat enough to have that surgery" WHAT? It's not a matter of being "fat" enough its a matter of being extremely unhealthy and having diseases that can kill us and the damage the extra weight is doing to our bodies. You are doing what's right for you:) Keep your chin up you don't need friends like that! We are here for you. Good Luck
  12. Oh no, not approved yet....just submitted paperwork to the bariatric center. Sorry for the confusion! But I have taken the first steps:)
  13. I faxed in my paperwork yesterday, sheet said they'd call within 2 weeks, they called within 2 hours! When I saw the name on the caller ID, I panicked I thought they were calling to say I didn't qualify! As my BMI is right on the line, but instead she wanted to schedule my first appointment:) I go on August 28th! Now I'm nervous, praying I don't lose one pound in the next 4 weeks! (Sad to say that but I can't afford to lose any weight right now). Just going to spend the next few weeks, reading as much as I can about this entire process, I'm sure I will have lots of questions to post! Nasty Diabetes I'm going to kick your butt! Stay tuned for progress.......
  14. Thanks for the info, so in a nut shell--if I do what I'm suppose to do it will continue to hold my weight down, once I lose what I need too?
  15. So I visited the library Saturday and picked up a few books on RNY. The first one I'm reading talks about the dumping and loss of appetite go away after a while....Is that not the major points as to what makes the surgery work for people? One reason I'm choosing this is for those very reasons, I need something to help keep me in control. Any veterans wanna chime in?
  16. He didn't say because you lost to much, just that often folks will lose a bit more then they need to and go up and down a bit before they find the right stopping spot:)
  17. During my seminar the dr said, people tend to lose a little more than they need to and then gain back a little bit, before they even out:)
  18. I've been sitting here for a couple of hours filling out all the paperwork they sent me! I even had to write a statement as to why I want the surgery. I'll say they are very thorough. Just so darn happy to actually be getting started!
  19. Hello! You are at a 33 BMI and they approved you? Wow, normally you have to be a 35 before they will consider you. I am right at 35 and have a few issues, one being GERD and diabetes. I have about 65-70lbs to lose. I'm just starting out. What insurance company do you have?
  20. I love everyone's input on this post! Very inspiring! I look forward to following everyones progress!
  21. Thanks! That's what I thought
  22. OMGOSH, you and I have a lot in common! I too have a low BMI I'm right at 35! i have diabetes, major acid reflux, very high triglycerides. I have been thinking about this for a year now. I'm finally moving forward to get started. I am on an insulin pump. I hate it. I hate everything about diabetes. I am doing this for the positive effects it can have on all my health issues. I'm nervous as well, it's a BIG step, life as we know if really has to change. But on the other hand, if we continue on the path we are on now, we won't be around long enough to enjoy our lives. I have a friend who too had many of the health problems like us, she had the surgery and is now a picture of health, no pills no shots. And she still gets to eat things she likes, just in much smaller portions:) I've tried many times to "diet" but I either don't stick with it or I gain it right back. My hope is this will be a tool to help me stay on track. With the diabetes not going away, my dr said they found that if you've had diabetes for 10 years or less, you are more likely to respond more positively to the surgery, but even if you've had it for more than 10 years, you should still see major improvement. I think it has to do with how well your pancreas is still working. Mine works actually just fine, but due to the weight, I've got major insulin resistance. I would love to continue to chat with you if you decide to go with the surgery! I wish you the very best! Whatever you do decide, don't let diabetes win! Good Luck!
  23. I take trazadone for sleeping, I hope I don't have that problem!
