  1. Bearhugs, wow that is in like two weeks! You'll do fine, but I know what you mean about being nervous! Is your Dr making you do the liver shrink diet before surgery?
  2. nocturnalgemi, Thanks for the response! No, I didn't have a hernia, thankfully. I was afraid of the bypass. I'm not sure why exactly, other than reading horror stories and letting my imagination get the best of me. I had GERD before surgery...however, the surgeon that did my endoscopy (not my gastric surgeon, but one of her peers) said, "oh you are fine to have the sleeve." I also have been a diabetic for almost 17 years. Before the sleeve I was on an insulin pump, taking huge amounts of insulin every day, but it didn't do any good. I was able to get off the insulin pump, however, I still have diabetes, I take an oral medication and my family Dr wants me to add another oral med.... I'm have lost about 38lbs since I had my sleeve in Sept 2014, I was a lower BMI when I started but I still need to lose at least 30 lbs! Granted recently I've not been as disciplined as I should have been, but I don't even feel any restriction at all anymore, makes me sad. I NEVER imagined that I would need a revision, it didn't even cross my mind....some days I wonder if it's worth going through with it, but I can't give up! I should have had the RNY to begin with, this is what I get for being such a baby! Please keep in touch, I would love to see your progress!
  3. GmaDiana Thanks for the response! So you've not had any issues then? That's great. Where were you weight/health wise before you had the revision? Was anything different eating wise afterward? The Dr. said my pouch might be much smaller... Thanks Bearhugs for the words of encouragement!
  4. II had my appointment today, it looks like I'm headed to revision --sleeve to bypass! I'm still letting that sink in. When Dr. Noria performed my endoscopy, my test showed that my acid levels were at 75.3!!!! Anything over 14 is acid. My body naturally produces high amounts of acid. I've not achieved full remission of my diabetes either. And I'm back on a blood pressure pill and a Satin..She seems confident that this is the right move. My highest weight before surgery was 234LBs, I lost 15lbs on the liver shrink diet, and I've only lost 38lbs since I had surgery ( I a not minimizing the 38 lbs. I know that any loss is good, but I think you know what I mean). I was a lower BMI before I started but to get my BMI to under obese I still need to lose 30lbs! She feels the revision will do the trick. I pray she is right!. Now we will wait for insurance approval and move on to what's next.
  5. Bear hugs, I was wondering are they having you do the liver shrink diet beforehand?
  6. So I got my test results back from my PH balance test. Anything over 14.72 is an issue; my score was 75.25!! I don't see my surgeon until March 6th, so I'm thinking a revision for sure is coming!
  7. Wow that's great! My dr didn't say how much more I might lose although I would love to lose about 20-25 more! My Dr said the acid will be gone too I'm really dying today with the acid and not being allowed to take any meds at all not even tums! Tomorrow afternoon can't get here fast enough so I can take off the acid monitor and overdose on my acid meds, just joking! Please stay in touch!
  8. I had a low bmi too! Thanks again please keep me posted about the new revision Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  9. Wow that is a lot, so once you had the revision you really didn't lose a lot more weight right away? Did you have to have a ph balance test before hand?
  10. Wow! That was harsh! When I had my surgery my sister threw a fit about it! Hurt my feeling a few times. What I found was she really had no idea what she was talking about, didn't understand what the surgery was and was not, so she was totally speaking out of ignorance! Once I had the surgery and my health improved and she saw that they had not beheaded me, lol she was fine. I look at it this way, only you can make the decision you know your heart and your health, if she doesn't come around than so be it, her loss! I was taking over 200 units of insulin and hooked to an insulin pump prior to surgery, now my blood sugar is normal, no more pump. Just my opinion, but people who settle on being over weight with all this " I'm over weight and there is nothing wrong with it" are watching their lives go to a slow death, our systems were not made to be overweight! I applaud you for wanting to get strong and healthy, no shame! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  11. Ortego07, thank you for your reply! I'm having problems responding directly to responses. How far into your sleeve were you when you had your revision? Also did you lose more weight? How long were you off work? What about hospital stay? Sorry for all the questions! Thanks Ren Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  12. So sorry not sure what happened to the reply I wrote, lol. But anyway thank you for responding! I had my endoscope yesterday. She found that I do esophagusitis at LA level B, which I had to look up, lol. But basically I have lesions on the esophagus, showing signs that the acid is doing damage. She also inserted a Bravo capsule, and I'm currently wearing a PH balance monitor until tomorrow evening. Bad part is I can't take any acid medicine until this monitor comes off! I'm dying from the burning! So once I return it on Monday, and she reads the results I'll know more! How did your appointment go for finalizing your revision? 13. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this in 2 places, but I am...(It's also on the gastric bypass page) Hi there, it's been a very long time since I've been on the boards. However I had gastric sleeve surgery in September 2014. It has been very successful, I've had virtually no complications. I only need to lose 20lbs to be at my goal weight. However, I had acid reflux prior to having this surgery and for whatever reason, the person that did my endoscope prior to surgery ok'd me for the sleeve and I stupidly thought that once I lost weight and was eating right, the acid would somehow go away. I was wrong...I don't know if it's really worse than before surgery but it is certainly not any better. I've taken prescription medicine for about 20 years for acid reflux and I still continue to need it now. I've had a few attacks in the last 6 months that have been what I would call sever. I am also concerned about new reports linking dementia and osteoporosis to acid medicines. I went 2 weeks ago to see my gastric surgeon about this and I didn't really know what to expect at that visit, however once I told her what had been happening she said here are your options. First, thing was do nothing up your acid medicine and the second thing was revision to by pass. The second one, I was not expecting, it never ever crossed my mind that I would need a revision. Now the surgeon explains how the bypass would get rid of the acid, however I have a friend that has had a bypass or still takes acid medicine. I go tomorrow for a PH balance test and an endoscopy to see what things in there are looking like, however I'd like to know after bypass do you still have acid issues? If you do, I'm not sure what the point of revision would be. Also if I were to get the revision, how much more weight would I expect to lose? I don't have much more to go and I would worry that then I'd be to thin....(never thought I'd say that:)) Anything you'd be willing to share would be appreciated.
  14. My BMI is right at 35 (I have diabetes among other things), anyone with a lower BMI wanna share your experience? I'm wondering with a lower BMI were you worried about losing to much weight? Or were there any other complications due to the BMI? Thanks Ren

    Disappointed

I had the sleeve in Sept 2014....I was a lower BMI'er when I started but I have lost hardly no weight, even gained 5 pounds....I'm hungry all the time and I have zero restriction(I know I need to have some willpower, but I don't have willpower and that was the main reason I wanted this tool to help me).....I take in plenty of Protein and I'm exercising.....Met with my Dr. two weeks ago....she said we'll give it six months and then talk about revision.......I have diabetes and that was my main reason for having the surgery in the first place.....I was scared to have the bypass.....I guess I should have sucked it up and went for it!
  16. Hi all it's been a while since I stopped by...to remind you about me I have type 2 diabetes, on an insulin pump. I needed to lose 85 lbs to be at my goal. I've lost 43 lbs and the last weight loss I did have was in November. I need some help. I don't think I'm eating the right foods. I feel like I eat the same 4-5 foods everyday. lunch meat, cheese stick, yogurt Protein bar and Protein shakes.... Not to mention how expensive the Protein Bars and protein power is. I feel lost....I want to lose this other 42 lbs. I don't even know how to get on track or what I should be eating, or how much. It's like everything that I learned in my prep classes, doesn't seem to fit what's happening now. I have been trying to attended Jazzercise 3-4 days a week and walk as much as I can. I'm 47 if that helps any advice given. I did this to hopefully get off the insulin pump my need for insulin has greatly reduced but still on the pump. Thanks in advance!
  17. Just like ham or roast beef from the deli at the grocery store. Do you count calories and/or carbs? How many should I be eating?
  18. Well....sometimes I have some chicken....eggs not very often my belly is not in love with them anymore. Beef hardly ever, I'm not good with veggied either, belly doesn't like them either. And starch, the only starch I really eat is normally 38 veggie straws with my meat and cheese for lunch. I know I'm not eating right at all....I can't seem to be able to figure it out.
  19. So....I have found myself severely constipated.....ended up this morning in the ER, they were not much help. I took an enema this morning, it did nothing, went to er the give me a soap and Water enema, nothing but liquid......I can feel there is stuff in there that needs to come out, my legs are weak from the pain. The hospital gave m a shot of Valium to calm me, but that didn't so much either. I stopped at the store and bought prune juice, heated it up and put Mirlax in it.....so far nothing.....I'm afraid I'm going to end up back in the ER.....any suggestions?
  20. I was sleeved on Sept 10th, can't believe its almost been one month already! Things are going really great, no sickness. I'm pretty much on liquids, and some soft stuff....I go tomorrow for my 4 week check up. I am going back to work on Monday! (I'm actually glad about that) I'm wondering, is there any average weekly weight loss with the sleeve? Like 1 or 2 lbs a week? I know we are all different and we all lose at our own pace, but I've not lost anything for two weeks....that kinda bums me out. I thought if I were going to melt it off it would be right at the beginning. I am not doing much of any exercise yet....I hope to be cleared to take on more at tomorrow's appointment. I was a lower BMI when I started also, not sure if they will effect my rate of loss as well.. Since the day of surgery I've lost 18lbs, I guess for 4 weeks that's really good:)
  21. That was a great article, thanks!
  22. Me too, they are very expensive even with insurance. I was shocked when I saw what the price was!
  23. That's funny I told my husband the very same thing when I first got home from the hospital....but not 3 weeks out- I'm starting to feel it...They are right, more solids make a difference:)
