Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Hi all April Sleevers. Just thought I'd post a little something on here that I've just noticed. I'm currently on a holiday that we booked last year pre-decision to have VSG. We are in a gorgeous hotel on a Spanish island (bear with me I'm getting to the point:) ). This hotel is full of slim European people (slightly regretting my food funeral antics!) and all meals are buffet style. I was resigned to the fact that I was forever going to have to eat in a different way from everyone else and would forever have to make excuses. However, I've been watching how these people eat (not stalking them you undertand:) ). I've had a lightbulb moment. These European guest have always lived and eaten this way. They eat small amounts, the same sized portions that we will soon be eating, lots of protein and they take a long time over their meals! For those who do not want to disclose your surgery there really is no need (other than the initial rapid (hopefully!) weigthloss). These guests are slim, healthy and look relaxed around food. Roll on the 26th!

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Hi Jimmy, your fellow 26th April sleever here. How are you coping? The 26th doesn't seem to be getting any nearer does? I'm on holiday with my family on the Spanish island of Tenerife at the moment. I am NEVER going to be this fat blob by the pool again (my Scottish skin is also right red from sunburn despite being lathered in Factor 50 Sunblock so I'm looking particularly attractive!!). I'm trying to start my healthy diet whilst here but I'm failing miserably:). You got any pre-surgery jitters yet? It's strange being among the last to go isn't it, watching as one by one our fellow April sleevers join the loser's bench? It 'll soon be us:). Keep in touch. Alison

Right behind you on the 26th Debbie and couldn't agree more. Just imagine how amazing we'll all feel in a few months time...!
  5. Does seem strange to be suggesting that you can have that already though. I'm not sleeved 'til 26 April but the literature that I got from the dietician recommends Clear liquids for first two weeks (I can hardly wait?!) Hope you are keeping well. Looks like you've had a bit of a rough time having gone through a slipped band and removal last year. After all that you really DESERVE to be slim:))

    I'm Sleeved!

I have a friend who sobbed uncontrollably at around day 3 or 4 mark. Probably a mix of relief that it's over, nerves about the next few weeks, mixed in with post-anesthesia reaction. She was sleeved at the end of September, is around 84lbs lighter and couldn't be happier! Hang in there you are not crazy, this too will pass:)

    Nervous

Remember to take your measurements today and some photos. I know, I know it's a VSG-er's worst nightmare but most of us haven't had a photo taken in years and have absolutely no idea what our measurements are. My Bariatric Nurse says that however much you hate the idea now you'll be glad you did when you are much further down the line or when you hit one of those "stalls" that we've heard a lot about. Often the number on the scales doesn't move but the number on the tape measure does!

Hi Avilva I didn't know anything about drains either?! Hope you manage to get a good night's sleep. I'm sure they'll answer all your questions when you get there. This time tomorrow it'll all be over:)

How are you holding up? Just think how well (and slimmer) you'll feel this time next week, next month...

To Tell Or Not To Tell?

My Dietician said that I should decide in advance what I wanted to tell people because the weight loss can be rapid and substantial and people will assume I've been very ill (I have to say, that never occurred to me...)! I have told close friends and family who have all had their share of diet success and failures over the years. It didn't seem fair for me to lose weight and have them ask me how and for me to say "eat less move more". I know they would go away feeling pleased for me but a failure for not being able to do it themselves (we've all been there). Didn't seem fair. Each to their own though. You must do what feels right for you.

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Thanks for taking the time to update:) Was wondering how you were. It's amazing how a group of people can come together and be genuinly caring about people they will probably never meet! Take your time, make sure you are ready to go home, physically & mentally. It's exciting to think of how things are going to get better & better from here on in. Your health and being overweight affect so much - things can only get better!

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

We're nearly the last of the April Sleevers to go, Jimmy! We're going to be going crazy by the 26th The very best of luck to all those who are going before us. Here's to being healthy, happy and able to wear high heels again (maybe not you Jimmy!)
  19. I don't know if this link will work or if this is the place to post it but thought, as my fellow "April Sleever Buddies" and I are on the cusp of major changes, I would show you a documentary that was shown here in Scotland a couple of weeks ago that I found interesting and encouraging. It is about a surgeon who investigates what makes some people fat and she starts from her personal view that we should eat-less-and-move-more and by the end her views have changed about what makes some people overweight and how they can be helped. It deals with Gastric By-Pass but the principles hold true for us "Sleevers" too I think. Interesting, particularly the sections on hunger hormones and stress. I found it encouraging, I hope you do too... www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01dzfgb (If you can't get this link it might be on Youtube. It's a called Horizon: The Truth about Fat) Quote MultiQuote Edit
