  1. So I have been reading a lot lately that most people tend to keep their carbs under 50g per day. I am confused because my nutritionist doesn't want me having less than 50g at minimum and to try to get them up to 100g per day. She has been saying to do this since at least 2 months post op. I feel like it is too much now reading what others say. I pretty much get between 50-75 grams per day. But I also have not lost anything for a month.... so just curious :)

  2. Hi guys just checking in. So I am almost 6 months out (April 30/May 1). I am down 76 pounds from surgery. The past 6 weeks have been frustrating. I am bouncing on the scale the same 3 pounds. I am currently 206 pounds. I am not "stalling per say" as I am slowly losing inches still.

I am really hoping to be under 200 by my 6 month mark, but at this rate I don't think it will happen. I hope everyone is well, and I am hoping for some more check ins ♡

  3. I feel like that. I got to 199 lbs and have been here for the last 4, almost 5 weeks. My goal is around 170. I don't think I'll get there.

but surely this can't be it? were only 5-6 months out. My surgeon thinks ill hit 170 easily and will continuing losing up until im 18 mths out. He said I've hit a plateau and its normal.

I know this of course, but after losing very slowly I do second guess this process.

I hear ya Rach. I am hoping to get under 200 soon. I am at 209 pounds and it seems like I am stuck. Most days this doesn't bother me so much, must be a mood thing. I am losing ok overall, not fast, not slow, but I am looking forward to hitting below that 200. For me biggest worry is below 189. 189 seems to be my curse. When I was that weight, I exercised and 5 hours a day ate well (probably did not eat enough for the exercise), but I never lost weight. So slowing down now scares the crap out of me.

  4. Several things stand out.

    1. My spiralizer (makes veggies into noodles)

    2. My many Water bottles

    3. YouTube (for the many food ideas)

    4. My measuring cups and scale

    5. I wish I had an amazing blender. Bullets and regular blenders are not powerful enough to make a good smoothie

    6. My measuring tape (for depressing days when I think I have not lost anything, my tape always tells me otherwise)

    7. My food processor (allows me to use whole vegetables and fruits to make my own sauces I.e Kale pesto)

    8. Did I mention my awesome spiralizer lol

    9. My mandoline (for slicing veggies)

    10. My spray container for oil. I am very oil sensitive and the sprayer makes it easy to only use a little bit (like a Pam spray but I add my own oil to the container, pump and spray)

And that spiralizer..... haha I am being so silly tonight LOL (I just got it recently and it is my culinary staple!)

  5. I am a nursing student in Canada and am in one of the best universities for nursing. I have found that my classes teach us to look further beyond the presenting problem. For example in my last class I had to talk about childhood obesity, and think outside the box to help that family intervene with their child's disability. I was astonished how well my classmates were considerate of a holistic view and ways to help the patient other than the obvious. I am saddened by your news. I also notice a difference between the rn's in my school from other universities locally. Huge difference in holistic care. I plan to work in pediatric as well as my doctors obesity program (of which he has kindly offered me a job haha).

Hopefully some of the new rn's out there can help work with the problems associated with obesity and wls. I k ow my classmates and faculty are excited about my journey. Obesity is something that is so comlicated, that I am glad we are getting NP's like you! <3

  6. The stuff is caustic! I bought an entire package and threw it away. It tastes, wow I cannot even describe it. Almost like fake cheese Soup? Where it has that alkaloid aftertaste. I tried it different ways and each was horrible. I would not recommend it. Just an FYI some people say it tastes like kraft dinner cheese, or even package cheese sauce. I am generally a cheese sauce lover and can eat the crappiest stuff, this stuff was not even tolerable to me.

  7. How old are you? 29

What surgery did you have? Rny

    Male or female? Female

How much weight did you lose? 120lbs total. 50 preop, 70 post op

How fast did you lose your weight? 5 months since surgery, 10 months the total

If you are female and didn't have cosmeticr surgery, are you comfortable enough to go to the beach in a bikini? No surgery and at 215 pounds not yet, but I am optimistic in the next 60-75 pounds left

How much loose skin do you have? So far quite a bit

  8. Oh my goodness everything sounds so yummy. Thank you again for contributing. I know I have not added my own days, and that is because I am struggling haha. I am finally able to get in fluids, but having to go in for emergency surgery a few days ago and having an allergic reaction has set me back..... again. You are all amazing and thank you for helping your fellow wls's!

  9. Dee and lilboo, you both have such a great grasp on your days. I am happy to see that you both are working so hard towards your goals. At 3 months out, I find seeing how others normalize their day so helpful. As a "newbie" it can be quite discouraging to get everything in, and when I see others do it, it makes it easier to breathe and I know with practice I will get there too.

  10. Oh I forgot to add stuff about me, sorry.

    I am 3 months out,

    Lost 110 lbs (50 before 60 after)

I am having gall bladder problems which will be resolved in the next few months from surgery

I have kidney problems- high uric acid crystals

I cannot eat more than 600 calories per day,

Am low in Protein and Water.< /p>

    Had bypass.

Before the usual (eat more and drink more) please understand I know this and I am trying my hardest. It hurts to drink, and eating makes me nauseated or full after 2-5 small bites per meal. I do try to have Protein Shakes, when my stomach does not reject them. They are "heavy" on my stomach.

I am struggling and know what improvements need to be done. So please be kind. I am feeling fairly defeated with food. I am speaking with my specialist this week about my fears and restrictions.

  11. This is a very good post. I cannot say it made me change careers, but it was because of my career I decided to have wls. I am currently completing my RN nursing degree, and refuse to be a hypocrite with my patients. There is nothing worse than an obese nurse teaching an obese patient how to lose weight and the support network available. I aim to be an amazing nurse, as I am not in it just for the money, I genuinely want to be there for my patients as a valuable resource, and my weight hinders me from doing this. I hope that made sense.

  12. BC girl here. I am almost 3 months post op. I am not losing fast and I am not losing slow. I would say I am just slightly below average weight loss for my time out. I started losing weight in May 2013, at 333lbs. On my day of surgery I was 283lbs and am now weighing 239lbs. I am so close to 100lbs lost I can taste it. I am hoping to get to 170's or 160's by my 30th birthday in September. Goal would be better, but under 200 would just be awesome!!

  13. I had my RNY surgery on 10/21/13.

I am able to tolerate all foods- salads, chicken breast, steak, all veges and my tiny portions of carbs are fine too.

Im a dumper. I had a small leftover Halloween candy in late November which made me feel nauseous for about 30 mins. I next tried "off plan" food at Christmas when I had a tiny portion of most things over 3-4 hours - but oh geez..I paid for it. I was ill all that night and next day!

Before surgery I was a binger on all things sweet. A snack was an entire packet of chocolate Cookies or half a family cheesecake (ok...sometimes a whole one). The mere though of eating that way now brings on terrible waves of nausea which is awesome!

Two weeks ago I began losing my hair. This morning as I was rinsing out the conditioner from my hair, my fingers were completely covered in mats of hair and when I collected it all up, I had a handful!

Not sure how long this can go on for before im bald! Im not overly worried. I hear from everyone that it comes back in soon enough. I got it cut to above my shoulders a few days ago too.

I walk 3-4 times a week for about 40-60 minutes. I eat my Protein and im pretty good at getting in 64 oz Water daily.

But my weight loss is horrendously slow. I had tried to be positive.

I tried to hang out in the slow losers thread as I felt like too much of a failure to post here with my surgery month peeps. :-( I feel like I don't belong cos im not meeting standard goals. I even put off my nut appt this week. She was expecting a 8-10 lb loss since my last visit but ive only lost 4 lbs. I'll have to face her next week.

Yep..im tracking via MFP. I take in 900 cals daily on average.

Its hard to stay positive. Especially when my biggest fear pre-op was that I'd be the one person thus didn't work for.

Im nearly 12 weeks out and only 26lbs down.

I feel hunger and sone days I feel very little restriction. My surgeon appt is mid February. I'll definitely be having a goid chat to him then.

Other than slow going...im doing well! My back pain is lessening and my pants ftom pre-op are finally loose. I've been trying to shrink them in the dryer but still too baggy.

Im counting my blessings for these accomplishments and trying to be patient.

It's wonderful reading everyone's succeses..congrats to you all!

The thing about this surgery rach, is that it is not a race. You have lost weight, and that in itself is such an amazing accomplishment. Hang in there, it will come off! Even if you only lost 6 lbs per month that's still 72 lbs per year. I don't know about you, but I have gained ever year except this last one.

Another thing I like about this surgery is that all of our bodies are different, why should our weight loss be the same. I personally am losing weight in the exact reverse I gained it. So I am grateful. I have lost more than you have, not much, but I cherish every pound I have as this is a pound I will never get back, assuming I have Control over that hehe.

You have every right to feel the way you do, and it can be upsetting when you do not make your goals, especially since that seems to be a story we all can relate to. Please remember, we are here for you, and you belong here with us always! We will all face a challenge where we need help.

    HUGS!

  14. Sorry it has been so long, it has taken me forever to figure out the android app for this site. Now I was able to find it today. I had RNY again Oct 31st, and was 282 lbs. A few months before that I worked my but off to try and lose as much as possible before surgery. My highest was 333 lbs. Today I am 241 lbs. So I still have 105 lbs to go, I am very happy with my progress!

  15. Love the before and after pics!!! I need to find a before…

I have my 3 month appointment coming up next monday.. I'm supposed to do blood work, but I'm a little nervous about it.. I've had an infection in my tooth, long story short, the dentist opened up the tooth to let it drain and I've been on antibiotics for a couple days.. Since all of this tooth business, I have not taken any Vitamins, I can't chew at all.. I'm hoping once the pain goes away I can start chewing.. I know its only for a few days, but with the blood work coming up, I'm a little nervous it'll show up that I'm deficient.. I guess I'll have to see what happens…

I am so sorry you are going through this! Hugs. I also hope your blood work comes back fine! I am positive in thinking that it will, you have been trying so very hard at this.
