  1. Thanks Laura for reaching out to me! I started doing the 5:2 in July, dropped 7 pounds, my scheduled got crazy and I haven't been posting. I also couldn't access the group on my ipad, but I just tried Laura's tip and it truly works!! Glad to see everyone doing well and I will get on here and post. I truly thank Georgia for even introducing this to me thru her posts. I would have never tried it.

  2. all good here... got through my third fast day; no dramas! I'd forgotten how good tuna tasted! Low cal and filling!

    - down a pound this morning' date=' lets see what happens in the morning... if I stay here and stop bouncing for a few days I'll be happy![/quote']

I'm with you Coops, tuna tasted really good today!! Gave me a bunch of Protein and was filling. Day 3 of fasting went well, I'm sticking with the 5:2 and I also am not eating anything after 8pm or before 8am, this gives my body a 12 hr fast each night and so far I'm down 5 pounds since last week!!! It's amazing...I haven't seen a loss in months and now 5 pounds in a week!! I'm only 3 pounds from my surgeons goal weight of 145...hope I can see that number soon. I will probably cry lol.

  3. Happy BirthdayFYE and Laura...I will be celebrating mine next week on the 20th!!! Like Laura, I too waited to move my ticker or even say anything on here because I wanted to see if the pounds stayed off for more than a day or came back(water weight). Happy to say I was 153 on Monday and weighed in at 149 this morning!!! I do like that the 5:2 has made me think about the fact that my body needs a daily rest from food, a period to really tune into whether I'm actually hungry or just eating out of habit and to stop having my late night snack. I will continue to give my body a 12 hr fast daily, for me that means not eating after 8pm and having Breakfast at 8am. I will drink Water during these hours if I feel I want something and am hoping this will break my late night snacking(when I say late I mean a snack at 9:30ish lol)

This will truly be a lifelong journey for me. I may no longer be 230 physically, but the emotional scars are still there and will take more than one year and a 84 pound weight loss to cure. I have truly been paying more attention to what I eat and how I feel when eating it. I have been drinking a minimum of 64 oz of Water since Tuesday and getting a lot of Protein in along with some carbs (need them for fuel during my workouts). Don't want to get too excited but am soo happy the scale move again.

  4. Today wasn't too bad. I did feel really hungry around 1pm today but drank some Water and it passed. Today was my two a day so I burned over 1000 calories today doing my morning and evening exercise and only consumed 600 cals for the day(I went over today, was hungry but made it a good Protein choice!!!) congrats to all who made it through day 2 of reduced calorie eating! Lets try it again next week!!

  5. This isn't as easy as I thought :o I'm actually hungry! 0.o Tuesday is pizza day for my family and I never eat it with them and it never bothers me but the smell of the baking pie is killing me!

Good news is I'm going to have about 100 oz of Water today!

I just keep drinking Water and telling myself to stay upstairs....we can do this Laura-Ven!!! It's almost 9pm and we made it this far, bedtime will be here soon and we will be stronger tomorrow for showing some self control today!! Great job today everyone!!!

  6. Thank god for a snack!! You know I think the hardest part for me will not be eating at night. Just like before my surgery that is the witching hours for me! I can eat hardly anything all day and then I want that nighttime comfort..

So for that alone (stopping at 6 or 7) it will be a good thing for me :)

I am with you Laura-Ven!! My evening snacking is hard to cut, nighttime is my witching hour too. That started way before I had the surgery!!! I did great today so far though. I ate eggs for breakfast(140), fish and a little bit of chicken(160) for lunch and dinner is chicken and veggies(200). Thought this would be a lot harder for me, but every time I started wanting to eat without thinking I just remembered that this is for 1 day and I can do is. It was also great to know i wasn't alone with this today and i wanted to be accountable to the group for actually following the plan. It does feel good to exercise some self control lol. I also went for a 4 mile run this morning and feel great only eating so few calories today!!! I will be done eating by 7pm and then nothing for 12 hours. Thanks Nannie for the information!!!

  7. WTG BTB!!! You endured a lot to finish that half!!! Way to be a trooper and get your 2nd half under your belt! Love the race pic and medal. Your shirt is too awesome! The whole carb loading before a race is still hard for me to, it's tough to know how many carbs to eat to not end up with an upset tummy and needing to use the port a John during the race. I know over time as we continue running we will figure out what works for our bodies. Congrats again!!! My 2nd half for this years scheduled for September...training begins in 2 weeks! What's next on your list, now that you have 2 halfs under your belt???

  8. Thanks Nannie for the 5:2 posts. I am really thinking I'm going to try it starting next week. The scale hasn't moved in months and I work out 6-7 times a week and eat pretty well(some of my bad eating habits have been creeping back in though). I have met my original surgeons goal weight of 160( I weighed in at 151 today) and have been around 150-153 since January. I did get down to 148 then bounced right back to 150. My surgeon saw I was doing well, then he revised his goal weight for me and dropped it to 145 and for the life of me I can't make it there!!! I wanted to try to TDEE plan but am scared to death to gain weight in order to lose weight and reading Globe's posts and hearing her frustration is confirming for me that I may not want to try that right now.

I have enjoyed reading the posts by Coops and Laura-Ven just about their journeys. I am a slow loser and despite it all wouldn't change a thing!! I appreciate the inspiration on this site and am determined to get to goal. It too is the dream I'm holding onto that keeps me going! Lets see if the fast diet works for me! Nannie is having some success with it!

  9. Still need to work on this nutrition thing but inspite of that' date=' I was able to turn in a 4:41 in my first full marathon, Pacers were so good I probably could have finished at 4:30 but my quad knotted up at 25 miles and I walked from 25 to near the finish before jogging across the finish line. Couldn't stand the thought of walking across the finish line. Even though I thought it might be stupid at the time, I biked to the airport and home for my flight to the marathon. Turns out the bike ride home was one of the best things I could have done to loosen me up. Legs feel great.[/quote']

Way to go Mass!! That's SO awesome. Congrats!!

  10. Just checking in...today I ran the 10mile Broad Street Run in Philadelphia, Pa. Was my first time competing in the event, it was a blast! I ran my best time yet!! I finished 1:46:25!!! Woo hoo!

  11. I ran my half marathon yesterday. What a fantastic event. Had a great time and the feeling of accomplishment cannot be matched by anything the scale says. To me' date=' this kind of thing is the big payoff after having VSG.

So now I'm thinking I need more training, but my next big goal is definitely the marathon. And since I love Oregon, I may make my first one the Portland Marathon next year. It's supposed to be a great choice for first timers. Either that or Honolulu!

    [/quote']

So happy for you BTB!!! Was waiting to hear how your half went. Congrats!! I totally agree with you, this kind of thing is the big payoff after having VSG. I couldn't have imagined running a half last year before surgery, so to complete one and then be excited to run some more is awesome!

I have all my races for the rest of the year mapped out, 5K color run next weekend (Danyelle said they we fun so i decided to register for one), 10miler in May, 10k races in June, July and August and half marathons in September and November!!! I'm SOO addicted!!

    Congrats again BTB!!! You rock!!

  12. Hi guys! Thought I'd chime in. The range that I've seen is 300-400. I've even seen 300-500. I'm on my third pair of running shoes and I start bruising around my knee and along my shin bone when it is time to swap out. This has happened to me around the 300 + mile mark. My first set was a pair of Brooks' date=' so I'm running in pretty good shoes. I just got a new pair of kayanos. Love them! Apparently it's not uncommon to see bruising when it's time to buy new shoes, so keep an eye out. I also keep track of the miles on my shoes with my Nike GPS app.

My shoe requirements have changed considerably as I've lost weight, but go to a specialty store and they will help you out. Nowadays I hit up DSW. I picked up my latest shoes for 99!

    Happy Running![/quote']

Couldn't agree more about the shoes! I have to change my shoes about every 300 miles( which is about 3-4 months for me) as I start getting toe and foot pain. I write the date I purchase my running shoes on the side of my sneaker so I can keep track of when I need to replace them. The wrong shoes will cause pain and tear up your knees, hips, etc.

  13. Will also start some Yoga this week to round things out a bit and become more flexible. Looking forward to some Hot Yoga in the future!! I am hoping Yoga will eliminate some of the bodily stress caused by intense exercise.).

3 weeks ago I started taking a Monday night yoga class at my gym as I run a lot of miles each week and it does help tremendously!! You will enjoy it Fiddleman. You really get a good stretch for those overworked muscles, I am trying hot yoga this weekend.

  14. Can't wait to check out the chi running thread BTB! I finished the rock and roll half marathon in 2:35:33!!!! So excited and happy!! When is your half BTB? How's training coming? I can't wait to run another half....it's so exhilarating!!!

  15. About how long does it take for you to go from running a 10 k to a 1/2? I got the 10 k down pretty good now and can start in on some longer distances. What should the next mini goal be because it is a long ways between 10 k and 1/2 marathon. Thanks!

    Hey Fiddleman,

I went from 10k to half as it seemed to be the next step. This will be my first half, I will continue to run halfs, 10K's and a few 5's. As BTB said Hal Higdon has some great plans, we are both doing one of his half marathon plans now to train for our upcoming halfs. I think your ready!! You have been making awesome progress!!

  16. Way to go BTB.....looking good!!! Your going to be collecting race bibs soon!! I have a bit of good news to share.....I did it!!! I ran a half marathon on the treadmill and finished in 2:44:00! My first half marathon - The Rock and Roll Half in DC is only 14 days away and I wanted to make sure I could run from start to finish and I am sooo psyched now. I even ran errands after leaving the gym......today was an awesome day!

  17. Also....I'm going to a Chi running workshop next month in Dallas. Why don't you hop a plane and take it with me? If you can't do that' date=' there is an article about the class in the March edition of Runners World. I haven't read it yet but I'm going to tonight.

Here's a link to the workshop.

I read that article in Runners World, it was a good article. I have been trying to apply some of the things in the article, like imagining I am cupping butterflies in my hand and to ensure i am leaning forward while running to remain relaxed and keep good form. Please give details on the workshop BTB...would love to learn more!!!

  18. Ran my first 10K yesterday. They had 15000 runners so needless to say it was quite crowded. A little too crowded for me. But my official time was 1:11:20. We did have a great time.

Way to go BTB, I was waiting to hear how you did!!! You rock!

  19. Did a 10.5 mile trail run this morning. It was supposed to be 8 miles but I took a wrong turn on the trail. Didn't matter though' date=' I had a great time.

    [/quote']

Great Job BTB! My 10miler was enjoyable as well, had to do it on the treadmill though. I am truly missing running outdoors. Love the new profile pic too!
