    Michigan Sleevers

Thanks @@newme101415, how did those go for you? I'm doing the NUT class, consult and seminar all in one day and psych eval in my hometown (out-of-town patient), and I'm hoping to minimize my trips to Muskegon. How was the support group meeting? Did you only have to do one?
  2. Ah, ok. Thanks @@Inner Surfer Girl

    Michigan Sleevers

I've seen a few people comment on Dr. Gluck in Muskegon and I'm curious what his pre-op program looks like. I have my consult next month and waiting is killing me, so I'm trying to get any info I can in the interim!
  4. Ok, so I've read this entire thread and lots of great advice and info! I'm hopeful for a September date, but more likely to be in October. I am self-pay in Michigan and my journey will really get its "kick-start" September 3 when I meet with my surgeon, go to my first NUT class, and go to the required "free info seminar" (SMH, I've already been to 3 at 2 diff docs offices and they're all the same!) I've been on the "lets make this happen" roller coaster for 4 years and I just hope it all comes together in September. Now, waiting with nothing to do to make this happen faster is so hard. I believe knowledge is power, and right now I'm waiting to hear what all I'll have to do IF I'm approved and it's killing me!
  5. How much does BLIS insurance cost? My doc is $11,000 in MI, but complications are not covered.
  6. I've seen people on here say they didn't have a pre-op diet. Everyone's different, as is every surgeon and their instructions, apparently.

Shot down by my "best" friend

I think it was nice of her to send the email at least. Maybe she didn't realize what a drastic step you had taken to improve your health and now you feel a bit like she should recognize that? If you're truly best friends I would give her the benefit of the doubt, but also let her know that she needs to be more supportive.
  8. That's amazing @@atontor!
  9. I have been researching the sleeve for about 4 years now and everything keeps holding me up--no insurance coverage, got pregnant, no job, got a job, but then no insurance coverage again... Well, I've been researching (and researching, and researching, and researching) and am finally comfortable with the plan to pay the surgery cost off, BUT I can't get my husband onboard. He says, "we'll just wait, and in 5 years when the car is paid off, then maybe..." O.o I respect that he pays a lot of our bills and may not be comfortable adding another (large) debt, but if I have a solid plan, then I need him to back me on this. Has anyone experienced a lack of urgency from their partner? How did you get them onboard with surgery? Feeling like its never going to happen...
  10. Still waiting and living vicariously through you successful sleevers! Keep the pics comin! ????

SVs and NSVs at 3.5 Months Out

Awesome, congrats! (I, too, am a "lurker!")
  12. Spoke to my husband last night and he seems to be on board now! Thank you for your advice, it really helped. Now I work on financing and making time for appointments! Yay!
  13. Thank you @@JamieLogical! Good luck to you on those last few pounds and congrats! Hopefully I'll be there too--sooner rather than later!
  14. Thank you, JamieLogical. This is very encouraging. I feel very similar--my husband has never struggled with weight problems and eats whatever he wants. I think he thinks I should just stop eating poorly. I feel like he would be very supportive after surgery, I just need him to help me make it happen. By that I mean, don't brush it off like, "yeah, wouldn't that be nice." Unfortunately my retirement plan doesn't have enough in it yet to help with this, but I'm doing a lot of research and there has been a lot of helpful information on these forums!
  15. This is a very good point, VSGAnn2014. I think he doesn't see the urgency in it all. That I am getting bigger every year and I'm missing out on years that I could be healthy.

    Cash pay?

    Awesome, thanks!

    Cash pay?

Do you know the name of the non-profit?
  18. Has anyone been able to find a surgeon to do this in Michigan? So far my search has yielded no result.

Thank you! I hope your nausea has subsided! ????

    Sleeved 1 day post op!

Congrats and happy recovery!! I am also trying to get my sleeve surgery (self pay). What did/do you think of Dr. Pleatman? Do mind me asking, about how much he charged? TIA and again congrats!!
  21. So, I'm a working mom to a 15-month-old and I already spread myself very thin. I've been researching, and trying to get this surgery for almost three years now (insurance, ugh), but I've never heard anyone talk about navigating this surgery process with a needy human on your hip. Can anyone tell me how they got through the surgery and made time for diet planning and exercise? I'm concerned that maybe I should wait until my daughter is older, even though I'd be missing years I could have been healthier.
  22. Thanks for your responses. It's difficult to juggle life as it is, so I was hoping this would give me more energy to keep up with her!

    Sparrow Bariatric self pay

Ugh! So, I was told I had to go to the Info Session to get my one question answered--how much is the surgery for cash patients--and after sitting through an hour of info I had already heard, I was nonchalantly told that the surgery would cost me $25k out of pocket, nbd. That's more than double every other place in MI I've looked at! Good grief! So, on to somewhere else, I guess.
