I have always struggled with my weight, from early grade school to current day. Being diagnosed with major depressive disorder my sophomore year of high school, it was no surprise to me. I would be bored so I would eat, then get depressed about my weight, and eat to try and distract myself from the depression and loneliness. It was a never-ending cycle, until I hit almost 250 pounds last year. I would have to order two combo meals from a fast food place for my stomach to feel full. I could probably eat half a pizza.

I had tried losing weight in the past, but could never keep up with it. I would go exercise with my mom, but never really felt like going. That and when I would lose weight, I would often hit a plateau and get stuck. I would get fed up of being stuck, which made me start eating fast food again. I tried Weight Watchers, but the most I ever lost was 20 pounds - and easily gained that back, plus interest. Weight Watchers meetings never really did well for me, because there was basically no one there within my age group. Finally my mom and I started thinking about getting some bariatric surgery.

After a long bout of meetings, appointments, lectures, seminars, pre-op and post-op visits, I am down 50 pounds. I chose a LapBand because of the outpatient recovery time, and the fact that the band could be removed later on if necessary. This is the most weight I have ever lost, and has really helped my self-esteem. I have now gone down eight pants sizes and will probably need an entire new wardrobe for the upcoming summer. Really looking forward to it.
