I have wondered the very same thing, but I agree with Tiffany has part of the success of what we are experiencing. I know that if I ate as little as I do now I would be constantly hungry, shaky, and unhappy. I know that people who have had the gastric bypass DO get hungry so that's one reason I chose this surgery.
I have been lucky to have only a few people scoff at what I did - one called me an a*****e and a gigantic hypocrite [on Facebook for all to see] to do what I did and actually tell people about my journey. She said that not everybody can afford to better themselves and therefore I was the bad guy. She, I might mention, is not overweight which makes it even stranger.
Oh, well - enough about my little life. I'm happy with the choice I made and YAY for the rest of us!!

I wonder if the success following the surgery vs. success/failure rate of doing it without the surgery comes down to the ghrelin hormone that is depleted when removing 85% of your stomach so your body is no longer able to produce so much of it. So, following surgery, your body isn't able to produce so much and your brain is now free to work without interruption from an overactive hormone to cause failure? Just my thoughts. (This might be why you "get" it and your hubby and mom didn't. You don't have the hormone produced as much any longer, but yet they still do.)

Don't ever feel selfish, the good Lord knows what you need before you speak it and will be with you every step of the way. You will be in my prayer's. I understand your nervousness and can only imagine how I will be when I am in your shoes. I was a wreck the morning of my endoscopy and thought to myself how the heck am I going to be the morning of my surgery?! I needed to shake myself out of it and gain control. (as much as I could anyhow)
You're going to do great and I look forward to hearing an update from you! This time tomorrow you'll be on the loser's bench!

Rhap, I 've been wondering how you are doing.
A mis-step does not make you a bad girl! Please remember that, it is the all-or-nothing thinking that gets us overweight in the first place.
I had surgery on the same day as you, and I too can take normal sized drinks and I can keep drinking and drinking the protein shakes. I am hopeful that this is a normal part of healing and when we add some food, we will feel full.
    Hang in there!

I have been using the medicine cup. Tried to estimate yesterday but totally lost count. Luckily I finished two 12 oz G2 bottles, so I knew I had at least 24 oz.
The medicine cup also helps the liquid to warm up, which goes down a little smoother for me. I usually sip three times out of each 1 oz. cup. Once I get a cup down, I make a tally mark.
Ridiculous, but I'm scared to be dehydrated. They had to stick me 4 times to get the IV in and I have three terrible bruises, I don't want to have to go in for an IV if I can help it.
    4 days down, woohoo!

Rhapsody, great questions! I am feeling much the same way on day 4. I tally my cups of protien and liquid and write down what times I take medicine/vitamins. It stresses me out though, as I have only been able to get down 7 oz (28 grams) of protein and about 28 oz of G2/water. I was told to get to 48 oz. of liquid plus 45 grams of protein.
I feel the same way with the pains and air as I take each sip. Walking around seems to help, but not enough.
Hang in there, you're not alone that's for sure!
