Just from lurking here for so long, and reading everything I can for the past 7 months, I have followed so many people's pre-op and post-op posts. Those that seem to be on a stricter diet after surgery seem to have a better recovery rate, less complications and you hear about less stall issues, especially since they are introduced to new foods slowly. Those that get out of the box and start eating right away, seem to have more issues and more complication and post more why am I not losing like everyone else.
There are always unexpected complications that happen, which cannot be controlled, but by and large, those that that realize this is a tool and it's up to them to control what they put in their mouth and when and do things the way it's meant to be done, seem to be far happier and are far more successful. What you do with your tool (the sleeve) will determine where you will be 2 months to a year down the road.

MoreganK reacted to CAsleeve in Loose Skin Post-Op ~ Pre-Op Stretch Marks Correlated With Potential Loose Skin?
Well, I've also been very athletic and worked out 4-5 days a week prior to being sleeved. I've now lost 54lbs (well, 61lbs including pre-op weight loss) and I have definitely noticed sagging skin! This is why I now workout 6-7 days a week and mix it up with spinning, boot camp type classes, barre method classes, yoga, and walking/hiking, and soon I plan to start jogging again. I've also noticed stretch marks (I think they show more as you loose weight). Anyway, I'm just hoping everything tightens up with persistence and doing something everyday. I'm going to loose ~60 more lbs and I'd rather have stretch marks and some loose skin than not loose the weight.
Have to say, I feel great!!! I need to post some pics some time soon.
    One Love.

I'm getting sleeved in 4 hours! It's 3:20 am and I couldn't stay in bed another moment. I am so anxious for this phase of the journey to get over and the next to begin. Thanks for all your support here, it helped me so much!

    Hi Shannon!
I'm at the last phase of my pre-op qualifications. My surgeon wants me to talk to a psychologist and see a nutritionist. I've already visited with a cardiologist, and have to do one more test with him. Which all of these things I have scheduled out for Monday and Tuesday. None of them are anticipating there to be a hang up. I then see my surgeon and schedule. I'm expecting a surgery date in mid-June. So, our after surgery journey should be pretty close.
Good luck!!! I'll friend you so we can keep up with each other's progress. Let's do this!

I swim. No matter WHAT you do if you don't enjoy it on some level there is little chance you will stick to it. So if swimming isn't for you then try Zumba, if not Zumba then try biking, if not biking try weight lifting, if not weight lifting try running, etc. etc. etc.
The point is try SOMETHING to keep yourself moving. The sleeve is the master tool to start the weight loss, it's totally up to you to keep it up and enhance the weight loss and gain in physical fitness and to reap the benefits of exercise. You WILL feel better, you WILL have more energy, you WILL get around better and you WILL benefit. Just keep trying stuff till something lights your fire.

Wow, Aussiegirl. Your success if inspiring to me. And thats exactly what happens to me too. When I eat clean, and exercise I'll do great up until about 20-25 pounds lost and then it all comes back no matter what. Or at best, I'll stay at that weight for a few months before I'd get frustrated.
This battle has made me want to get involved with PCOS Awareness though, more women should be checked for this. I know that when I was diagnosed at 26-27 years old, it was like a temporary moment of "Ah -ha!" I knew there was something wrong with me. I knew there had to be an explanation, because I took pretty good care of myself, and was always involved in something active.
I'm just ready to get the show on the road now!

I'm a hoop dancer (yes, with hula hoops!). Its a great total body work out and lots of fun. I'm actually getting certified in October to be an instructor. Weight loss will only help make this activity that much more fun for me. The fast I can move (with less of me to move) the more Fluid and fast my hoop can go for tricks.
I also really love kickboxing workouts. Not cardio-kickboxing, but actual boxing/kickboxing workouts with bag work. There is something so amazing about this workout. Its a HUGE calorie burner, and total body workout. But, its also empowering and you're learning self-defense in the process. I also enjoy yoga for its calming and stretching effects.
I'm sooo looking forward to these activities post-op. Um, here is a question. How long did you guys wait before you started doing intense workouts? I asked my doctor, but his questions felt like it was for someone who was stationary starting off the couch. I'm not a total beginner. He told me to start with walking, and at the 2-week post op mark I could do anything, but if it hurt don't do it & come back to it a couple weeks later.

Hey there Moregan, You and I are on similar journeys! I was diagnosed with PCOS almost two years ago, and have been overweight since I was seven! And I want a baby, too! That's how I found out about the PCOS to start with, and a big reason why I decided to go forward with sleeve surgery. It has changed my life big-time! I am now 8 weeks post-op, and I've lost 32 pounds. I don't have to take metformin anymore, thank goodness, but this path so far has not been easy. It's only the las couple weeks that I've really felt like myself since the surgery, and had somewhat normal energy levels. food and I still don't get along very well if I'm not careful- I haven't thrown up a single time since surgery, but I gave gotten dumping syndrome a few times after having a little of something I shouldn't have had. And Dehydration is a constant worry.
However, this surgery has given me a new outlook on life. Despite my troubles, the weight is coming off. I don't get out of breath climbing stairs. I am down from a size 4X/ 28 to size 22, and some 1X's in less than two months!! I have the confidence to be able to plan and dream about a much more enjoyable future! And, I don't really feel hungry anymore. It is way cool to have five or six bites at dinner and be done!
So, yes it is scary. And there are needles. BUT, there are also DRUGS! Lol. And when you're done, recovered (this part takes time and is also way not fun), and skinny, then there will be a BABY!! I hope my perspective was helpful, and God bless your journey!

I have said this so many times before and it's worth repeating... you are such an inspiration and motivator to me and so many others. You are always transparent - which is an admirable quality and your advice is sound. Thank you so much for your encouragement and for your words of wisdom.
