  1. Interesting question. I hope people will not see me as who I was in the past. I am starting to change not only externally, but Internally. I have lost 70lbs in the past 9 months (16 of that was post surgery) and I do get very uncomfortable when people who haven't seen me in a while react shocked by how I look. I know it will only get worse when I lose the remaining 90lbs. lol.
  2. Totally normal. I gained 7.5lbs when I switched to soft foods. I am on regular foods now and have lost that 7.5 plus a few more. Keep sticking to the plan and things will stabilize.
  3. Reminds me of when I was pre surgery and went to a support group. 90% of the people there were bypass and sleeve patients. They were trying to convince me to switch from the band, even though they spent the whole support group complaining about dumping and their countless correction surgeries. No thanks. I applaud anyone who is successful with bypass or sleeve but I am happy with my band.
  4. Sleepy one - try Josephs pitas. They come in a mini size and are very healthy. Has whole grains and flax in it. As for my hunger now.. I will let you know in a few more days. I was starving on the 2 days liquids after the fill. My hungers been very manageable today. Some say it takes a week or two for a fill to kick in. I went grocery shopping today and am gonna try out tons of new recipes this week. Can't wait. Well I didn't do perfectly today. I went to a friends wedding. Breakfast - 3/4cup Greek yogurt Lunch - 1/2cup chili, 2 saltines Snack - 1/2cup soy protein berry smoothie Dinner - 1/2cup shredded beef, 1/4 rice and black beans, 2 baby tomatoes Dessert - 1 small piece of wedding cake
  5. I was always a little bit larger and taller than most girls, but didn't become fat til puberty kicked in. From then on the weight kept creeping up. I remember having to wear a swimsuit in gym class in junior high, and how humiliating that was. My dad tried to get me to join every sport under the sun to lose weight but it was embarrassing and didn't last. I was over 200lbs by high school and started trying Weight Watchers and starvation diets. I would lose 50lbs in a few months, gain 60, and so on. I don't really have any memory of ever being average size, much less "thin". It will be interesting to experience life on the other side once I reach my goal.
  6. So good to see you posting again! I was worried! And your breakfast sounds delicious. I would love any recipes you have. Today I had water, skim milk, and apple juice due to getting my fill. Back to foods tomorrow. Exercise - 30mins elliptical and 15mins of squats/lunges/light weights
  7. I told my immediate family, about 6 close friends, my personal trainer and my minister. They have all been supportive. As I lose more weight, I'm sure I'll start telling more people. Will cross that bridge when I come to it.
  8. Have you considered water aerobics or doing laps in the pool? I hear that is easier on the joints.
  9. I'm sorry you are going through that Erica. I doubt some of the complications you went through helped in your weight loss. I am not judging you, but you said you are eating the wrong foods and not sticking to the advice you were given. Why? Fills won't do anything if you are drinking while eating, snacking or having slider foods. The cycle of guilt, overeating, then hating myself because I "failed" is what made me fat to begin with so I am trying not to be "perfect" this time, but eat in a way I can live with long term. Willpower is difficult but necessary for ANY type of WLS.
  10. Thats great Lose_It! My next goal is 7 lbs away. Thanks sleepyone. I will check the recipes out. I am back to regular foods tomorrow and want to have a meal plan ready.
  11. Never tried Insanity, but I have tried P90X and literally thought my heart was going to explode out of my chest. It was way too hard on my body. I would like to try something like P90X or Insanity when I am closer to goal weight though.
  12. I love it. The best part is, its not about doing the steps perfectly. Just about moving your body. I went regularly for a couple months, but got tired of the instructor. She wasn't very energetic and always did the same songs. I want to find a different Zumba class now. Has anyone tried Aqua Zumba?
  13. Thanks ladies. It was an absolute blast and good for beginners.
  14. The #1 thing that helped me get through the liquids was making a list of the 25 reasons I want to lose weight. I read it every time I felt like giving up, and I still do. If you can, try mixing it up with different textures of liquids. sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicle, and hot tea. I also literally threw away ALL the food in my house before I started.
  15. A heating pad, wedge pillow, and chapstick came in handy for me. I had major dry mouth/lips after surgery.
  16. I am so inspired by all your successes. Great job. Got through my first fill today which was a victory in itself. I am down 16 lbs since surgery.
  17. I had my first fill today and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. As for the weight loss, I know how you feel but don't be so hard on yourself. My surgeon told me the first 6 weeks is about healing, and eating when you are hungry. It's incredibly hard to lose anything when we are constantly hungry, and some say it takes several fills to reach the green zone. Focus on the positives -- exercising regularly, making better food choices, portion control, etc. The weight loss will come.
  18. I went to a beginner belly dancing class tonight and it was SO MUCH FUN! Everyone was friendly and non judgmental. It works the abs, thighs, hips and arms! Definitely recommend you guys try it if you get the chance. As a woman who has been heavy her entire life I've never felt especially feminine or "sexy", but the class made me feel good about myself for the first time in a long time. I wouldn't have had the confidence to even go to a belly dance class pre band so this is a NSV for me. Just wanted to share
  19. Thanks! I am HATING having to be on liquids for these 2 days, but I got through today so only 1 day left. Even though I only have 1 cc in my band, I'm scared of food getting stuck when I do begin to eat again. I found some WLS cookbooks on Amazon.. thinking of ordering them! Or printing some from on here. Before the band I ate a TON of fast food and take out, so I am still learning how to cook healthy for myself. But i do find preparing a healthy meal for myself makes me feel really good. Open to any suggestions you guys may have. Today I had skim milk, water, and some cranberry juice. Need to get soy protein powder. Exercise - 1 hour belly dance class. Loved it. Meeting with my trainer tomorrow for a 1 hour session. How did you guys do today? And has anyone heard from Debbie? I am worried about her.
  20. The pre op diet is nothing like life after the band. While we all follow the same basic rules, different things work for different people. Personally, I refuse to live a life of deprivation just because I have the band. I'm going to make good choices the majority of the time, but I am also going to allow myself treats in moderation. I am not giving up my social life. However, like the above poster said, the band can't do all the work for us. You have to be willing to exercise and make better food choices or it wont work. As much as we would all like fast results, weight loss is only 1-2lbs a week with the band.
  21. Lol, same thing happened to me. I feel a lot more comfortable eating at home than I do in a restaurant... not sure why. Got my fill this morning. Only 1cc but it went well. Have to be on liquids today and tomorrow, then back to my regular foods.
  22. Got my fill this morning. It was uncomfortable and a weird feeling, but not painful. My stomach doesn't feel too settled at the moment.. Maybe it's swelling. Anyway the PA weighed me and said I am down 16lbs since surgery (yay)! She thinks I may be near the green zone already because I'm losing so well. But that doesn't make sense to me cuz I told her I'm only full for 2 hours! She said I should be full for 4-5. I will need to ask more questions next time but i guess this is a good starting point. Anyway she put in 3cc's, had me sit up with the needle in and drink some Water. The water had lots of air bubbles going down into my tummy so she said I was too full. She took out 2ccs. I only have 1cc in my band now. I am just praying I'm not hungry 24/7 now that there's some Fluid in there. Have to be on liquids for next 48 hrs then can start eating solids. I'm a little worried cuz my friends wedding is on Saturday and I want to be able to eat normally.
  23. After you're prepped for surgery you will meet the anesthesiologist, and have the chance to ask questions. You should be totally fine but don't be afraid to voice your concerns. I don't even remember being knocked out.. LOL! By the time you wake up in recovery your breathing tube will be out.
