  1. I've been on the pre-op diet since last Tuesday. Mine is only Protein Shakes as meals & Clear liquids in between. Ive lost 13 lbs so far. I've been doing well but today I caved and ate a piece of chicken breast. I've seen that others are allowed to eat chicken & veggies. Today is Monday and my surgery is Friday.

Advice: Should I call my surgeon's office & tell them? I think the chicken would be out of my stomach by Friday so I don't know what type of danger it would cause. Advice, please! :-)

  2. Hang in there! Today is Day 3 for me. I lost 7 pounds when i weighed on Day 2. Haven't weighed myself yet today but know I will have lost more. It's certainly torture. I have had a lot of beef and chicken broth, Decaf coffee, sf Popsicles, diet lemonade from chickfila (YUM!). I'm getting sick of the vanilla and chocolate Protein shakes, though. I may have to go look for some more clear/light Protein drinks because these are getting nasty fast. :-)

My motivation not to cheat is that I want a safer surgery. And if I eat I'm sure the surgeon will see it in my stomach! I saved some people's before/after pics on my phone and have been looking at those when I feel discouraged.

Good luck & stay in touch. What's your surgery date? Mine is 4/20.

  3. @hellonurse:

Split pea Soup & spinach salad! I'm so jealous!! All I'm allowed are Protein shakes and clear liquids! Crazy how doctors are so different. Good job. Sounds like you're conquering the diet!

Today is day 3 for me. I haven't weighed myself yet. On day 1 (before actually dieting) I weighed 257. On day 2 I was 250.5. Can't wait to see if maybe I'm in the 240's by today and maybe even the 230's by the time I go to the hospital next Friday for surgery.

Thanks for all the updates, everyone. They really help me stay focused.

  4. How's everybody doing?

I've made it nearly through day 1 and it wasn't as hard as I thought. I had a vanilla Protein shake in the AM, a chocolate one for lunch and will have vanilla again for dinner. In between I've had chicken broth and an Edy's Splenda Popsicle. I also had diet lemonade from Chick-fil-A (freakin delicious!) and am now brewing some Decaf coffee. I made lasagna for my family for dinner so im pretty sure it's going to be torture when it comes out of the oven!!

So far so good. Though I know I'll be ready for surgery next Friday... because I'll be starving!

  5. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I know I'm gonna be in your shoes in just a few hours. We can do this. My motivation is that I want my liver to shrink so I have a quick and easy surgery. I don't want any food in there during surgery that might cause a leak afterwards. I'm scared $&@7less of complications so fear is my motivator for the pre-op diet. Good luck to you (and me!)

My surgery is 4/20. When is yours? Let's stay in touch!

  6. This exact thing happened to me. My EKG was abnormal. I saw a cardiologist yesterday and the EKG he did was perfect, said the other one likely came back abnormal because a sticker-thing wasnt kn right. He said I have to do a stress test (tomorrow at 7AM!) and then he'll clear me. I've heard the stress test is a doozie... guess I'll know in about 8 hours! Good luck.

  7. I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN LANE BRYANT AGAIN!! I can't wait to buy jeans at American Eagle and fit my feet into strappy sandals without bulging out. I want to wear bangle bracelets that actually fit on my hand and have my wedding rings sized down for a change. Fit in booths comfortably, wear Victoria Secret bras, a swimsuit, no joint pain, stop huffing and puffing, no snoring, finally get restful sleep, weigh less than my husband for a change, dress sexy for Halloween.

I can't wait to get to my goal weight. As soon as I do I'm getting my hair and make-up done professionally, a fabulous outfit and having pictures taken.

  8. My weight was right on the line between 39 & 40. If I'm a little constipated (TMI sorry) its 41. If I'm "cleaned out" it's 39. The two days before my appointment I ate sushi, salty foods, etc so id retain Water and weight. And my BMI they documented at 40.9. Beautifulnewme is right - Gotta do what you gotta do. ;-)

  9. @vsggal-

What insurance is B/S? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield IL. Is that who you're talking about? If so make sure to call them... because they just waived their 6 month diet policy.

I called my insurance company several times and asked a bunch of questions. I'm pretty sure you'd qualify with a 42 BMI. They might want to make sure your BMI has been over 40 for a few years (2 or 5), not sure. My company didn't have any requirement for this, though.

Good luck and keep me posted. I'm pretty new here too. I'm done with all my requirements and my doctor is submitting to insurance next week.

  10. Thanks so much, everyone.

Stacy Nicole - I think I might ask for anxiety meds... like as soon as I walk in the door to the hospital. Lol. I was there yesterday for EKG, sonogram and chest x-ray. They whole time I was thinking about how freezing it was in there and imagining myself having surgery in a freezing cold and creepy room.

Thanks again for all the reassurances and good luck to everybody else having the same fears. I should have my surgery date within a couple weeks.

  11. I haven't been sleeved yet. I have a good friend that got the lap band 1 year ago and didn't lose a single pound. Now that I qualify for the sleeve she has become so negative, trying to discourage the procedure, bad-mouthing the doctor, etc... Pure jealousy. I'm curious how she'll act once I am sleeved and start losing. If the negativity continues, there won't be a friendship! I'm hoping I'll influence her in a positive way and maybe she'll even convert to a sleeve, too.
