I Just Want To Get Better

I asked my surgeon about the drain and he said he used to ALWAYS use one for all stomach type surgeries, then one of his peers asked him how much fluid was there from the drains....my surgeon said that made his stop in his tracks and really think becuase there was hardly ever any fluid - it was just habit and the way he was taught MANY years ago - but he does say that sometimes the drain is necessary but he rarely does it anymore.
  3. you will do awesome...congrats - let us know how you are doing in the next few days.....

    Finally!

congrats - that is awesome!! keep it up.
  5. I would think it would be better if he took off after you were released in the hospital, since he really can't do anything for you while you are there and the nurses take realy good care of you. but that's just my two cents....
  6. I tried and pushed my surgeon's office for a surgery date as well becuase I needed to let my office know as well....the initial date was too soon, as I have to get things in order here first - so I have a date of Sept. 10...which is just around the corner....but they would not do a date until I got the insurance approval as well.
  7. my fear is getting sick a day or two before surgery..... but i also wonder if it will be more tough on us regarding dehydration and such.....guess we have to be extra diligent on our fluid intake.

    United Healthcare Options Ppo

yes - 6 months of weigh-in visits - and nutritionist (2 of them) - psych eval (which was quite fun) - ekg, pulmonary clearance, blood work, then tested for H-pylori - then submitted to insurance. all in all it went by fast and i was very glad to have the 6 months to get mentally prepared for surgery and to purchase all the stuff I'll need (shakes, blenders, vitamins etc). Call the back of your insurance card to see exactly what your version of UHC requires as each company has their own clauses. good luck

    United Healthcare Options Ppo

UHC took 3 business days to approve -they are absolutely great to work with!!!
  11. mine is 3 shakes a day and a sensible meal of chicken/pork/lean meat and veggies. all the sf jello, crystal light and such....not bad at all I think
  12. I dont' really get the 'food funeral' thing - but I have had a few meals that I know I won't have anymore...not 100% sure why I did it, I guess becuase I could....as I certainly won't miss anything about food. I don't get the concept that you can't live without diet soda - or certain foods... please don't flame me - I just don't understand that mindset that food could be a 'friend'. food is food, nothing less and nothing more - to me that is. I just have an issue with finishing my plate....or eating a whole burger when 1/3 of it would just be fine - because I can - not because I crave it. thank goodness I had the 6 months or prep time for this surgery - as I started incorporting these eating behaviors in advance so I hope i don't struggle after the surgery.
  13. Congrats hope you get your date soon.

    Heart Problems?

that seems logical. as I can't imagine why a surgery would give you heart issues, unless it's a warning sign that something else is going on...but I'm not a doctor so I don't know....

Dr. Advice On 10 Day Checkup

me too....not sleeved yet as Sept. 10th won't come soon enough - but it appears that according to my surgeon - he is pretty adament regarding post-op diets - I have days 1-14 full liquids and days 15-42 (6 weeks out) is a soft diet. So this girl won't be pushing it either.....just playing it safe.
