  1. Get rid of your scale!!! Your dependant on that thing like you were on food before your band. Put it up on the top shelf of an out of the way closet and only use it once a month if you must use it. Like if your birthday is on the 4th of the month, weigh yourself every month on the 4th. I'm new to this. I just got banded Feb 29th. I only get on the scale at the Dr office. I've been blessed that each time I step on it, it reads a lower number. I'm down 41lbs since my consultation Nov 17th, 2011 to March 8th, 2012 my recent appt with the Dr. Focus on how good you feel. Focus on how much weight you lost since you began your journey. Don't focus on the scale!! Eat right, exercise, and enjoy the new you!!!!! Sent from my mobile device using LapBandTalk
  2. Congratulations! I'll be 2wks out Wed. My Dr has me on liquids for 2wks and then mushies for 2wks. I do take a spoonful of applesauce with my Vitamins bc they're too big to swallow. (Even though he said not to.) I'm don't suggest going against Dr's orders. When you start the mushies, try soupy mashed potatoes mixed with chicken broth, sugar free pudding, Greek yogurt, etc. My friend was banded 6yrs ago and she suggested blending food in the blender. No meats, no corn, and no Pasta. Good luck on your weight loss journey!!! Sent from my mobile device using LapBandTalk

  4. Ask your Dr to hire a PA to do the fills. I'm in NY and my Dr uses PA's to do the adjustments. I have my first fill in 3wks. Also I'd call my insurance carrier and explain what's going on. They will investigate your Dr and possibly refer you to someone who actually wants to help you. Sounds like your Dr is money hungry. Sent from my mobile device using LapBandTalk

    Need Atena Info

Usually when you're approved for a procedure or surgery, the insurance company covers follow up visits for 3 months. If you don't have a copy of your approval, contact your insurance company and request a duplicate copy. Also check bc usually your co-pay is waived for that period too. 6. That's odd that they're going back 3yrs like that. I'm in NY and have HIP health coverage. I only had to document the past 6 months of weight loss attempts before my visit to the bariatric Dr and my primary Dr wrote a letter stating how I've been struggling with weight since he's been treating me. Try looking on my Dr's website www.newyorkbariatrics.com Dr Vohra and Dr Nishimura are the equivalent of medical twins. They are always on the same accord and you receive top notch care from them and their staff. I'm not saying cone to NY to use them. All I'm saying is look at the website and call their office if you have questions. They will answer your questions even if you're not a patient. Now that's good business in my book. 7. It took a long time for me to decide to do the surgery. I went for my consultation on Nov 17th,2011. A week later I went to my first support group. I took the tiny bites to heart and started right away. I think that by preparing myself mentally and physically beforehand, I will have a better experience and hopefully not get stuck. I live in NY where rush society started and lives. Everyone wants things right away. Though I was just banded, I still crave a bite of chicken pot pie. (Which my Aunt made today and I can't eat it ) This is why we are here to support each other. Take it slow and enjoy life 1 bite at a time 1 ounce at a time.
  8. I wouldn't suggest jumping. I was just banded Feb 29th, so I'm not eating solids yet. I learned back in Dec from my Dr's support group to eat small bites like a chipmunk. Chew it 20-30 times then swallow. I started eating like that before my liquid diet started. I must say it teaches you patience.
  9. @ Heather1976, try walking and deep breathing. I was just banded 2/29/2012. I had to get up and walk up and down the hall every 2hrs while in the hospital. It relieves a lot of pressure. I wouldn't suggest stairs. Try walking in place if your house isn't big enough to walk around.
  10. I can't believe that your Dr doesn't have a monthly support group for you to attend. I'm in NY and my Dr's have monthly meetings at the hospital for all 3 types of bariatric surgeries. I suggest looking online for a private group in your area or ask your Dr to start a support group. If it weren't for the support groups I attended, I don't think I would've been banded. It's best to hear the answers face to face sometimes.
