  1. Im almost 3 months out and I still feel sick to my stomach and nauseated and weak after I eat or drink Protein Drinks. Usually lasts anywhere from 30-90 minutes. Doctor prescribed anti-nausea medicine. I dont take it all the time because one of the side affects is fatigue. Im really discouraged by this. I pray to the good Lord that this is just a "phase" I have to go through. Anyone else having this problem?

  2. Hello everyone! I was sleeved on Feb. 15, 2012. After surgery I lost some weight up until approximately Feb. 25 ish. Since then I haven't lost any weight. I know this is normal but it's been about 2 weeks now. How long do these stalls last? I'll be calling my nitritionist on Monday but wanted input from those that actually have had them. Would love to hear your story. Thank you and God bless :)

  3. It is hard to believe that it has been over a year since I had my sleeve surgery. I was sleeved on February 23' date=' 2011. I was convinced that I would be the one to die during surgery or to fail after having it done. The night before, I wrote myself a letter to open on the 1 year anniversary, in the event that I survived the procedure. I put off opening that letter for a couple weeks because I knew how emotional I would feel reading it. I just opened it today, and I thought I would share it with everyone. Here is a letter to myself written 2/22/11:

Krista- If you are reading this, then you made it through surgery & the first year. Hopefully, you are healthier & happier. I just want to remind you of all the reasons you did the surgery & hopefully none of them apply any more. Today, my hope for the future is:

    1. To no longer fearful of being humiliated every time I go in public by someone pointing, laughing, or saying something horrible to me.

    2. To no longer afraid that a child I am working with will ask me why I'm so fat, which has happened several times since I became a librarian.

    3. To not be afraid I'll break a chair when I sit.

    4. To not dread restaurant booths because I can only fit in about half of them.

    5. To be able to climb stairs without getting winded.

    6. To not dread flying; fearing the seat belt won't fit or having the person seated next to me roll their eyes & sigh when they see me.

    7. To be able to wear shorts without embarrassment.

    8. To not be embarrassed to have someone hug me or touch me, knowing they are feeling all my fat.

    9. To be able to swim & enjoy the Water.

    10. To go on a date and really be able to believe that someone could like or love me.

I feel like this list could go on forever. I only hope that if I am reading this letter, my life has improved & I'm not regretting having had this surgery. I hope I am really able to love myself and the anger I feel towards the world & how it treats me is gone.

I'm happy to say that all the hopes for my future have more or less come true. There are a few things I am still working on. I'm still about 20 pounds from my final goal, which I take full responsibility for. I have been slacking the past month & need to get back on track. I still don't like wearing shorts or swimming suits, but that is largely because of the loose skin & am dealing with & not because I feel fat. I feel like my life has improved so much from the time that I wrote that letter. It is better than I could have hoped for. Don't get me wrong, it is still not perfect & I still deal with low self-esteem and other issues. But I'm no longer miserable just because I exist. I don't hate how I look or hate having people look at me. I don't avoid photos or going out with friends. I feel like I am finally living a normal life & I am happy with that. I hope all of you can or will soon be able to say the same.

I couldn't figure out how to attach before & after pictures, so here is the link to my album: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/gallery/album/1509-krista-before-1-year-pictures/

Thank you for sharing. You made me cry. I think a lot of us felt the same way (and still do). You have come a long way since last year. Even though I didn't write myself a letter I remember feeling the the same way. First couple weeks before surgery I thought I might not make it through surgery but even with that in mind I knew I had to do it. I wasn't living life for some time and really wanted a new healthier, happier me. So I did it and here I am. Made it through surgery. I know that my life will be completely different next year. I too will post a similar story like yours. Thank you so much for sharing your personal feelings and your great transformation!!

  4. I am 7 months out from surgery. Had a textbook recovery.. no vomiting' date=' just a little pain at first, able to keep most anything down. Now all of a sudden 1 1/2 hours after I eat... all h#ll breaks loose in my stomach. It hurts so bad I kind of double over. It lasts about 3 hours then I am fine. I had a small bowel series yesterday (barium thy name thick and horrid) and the good news is they didn't find anything wrong. The bad news is... they didn't find anything wrong... So on it continues... I have not really changed my diet or exercise habits. Still waiting for the Dr. to figure out what is wrong.

  5. I appreciate this post/string as I too (like Spatters3) have been thinking the past few days "I'm going to be the 1 person the VSG doesn't work for!!" And have been pretty frustrated because I am following my Dr's. diet plan to the 'T'. Have since the week prior to surgery (2/13). So it dawned on me this a.m. "is this the 3 week stall I've heard about?" At first I thought it was just because it was that time of month' date=' so I figured I wouldn't lose any then. But seriously!!! When you're only having maybe 400 calories a day, and it's all good stuff, and you're drinking Water, walking, Protein, Vitamins, etc.........if feels like this WEIGHT SHOULD BE COMING OFF FASTER!!

I know...I know... Patience Mary. I am thankful for what I've lost so far (20 #) but I must admit, this past week I haven't lost but .5 pound and it can get to you when you're watching everyone else eat all this delicious stuff you're used to but can't have now and yet still not losing. Maybe I'm gaining by osmosis....watching others eat the good stuff. Yes I know I've got to snap out of this mental funk!! :-) Crossing my fingers if I just 'stay the course' it'll start melting off soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best thing so far: having control over my urge to overeat. u just can't. it's as simple as that.

Worst thing so far: not really anything, unless my weak self says 'smelling the popcorn and brownies I can't have.' Note to self: MUST REMEMBER THE END GOAL. MUST REMEMBER THE END GOAL. MUST REMEMBER THE END GOAL.

Hi Mary, I'm just about in the same spot you are. My surgery was the 15th, lost about 20lbs, had my period on the 28th and haven't lost any since. I am not worried because somewhere I read when we have our periods we don't lose any for a lil bit. Not sure how long either. My issues right now are to get all my liquids and Proteins in (which somedays seem to be difficult and other days not), eating and drinking too fast, and feeling pretty tired and low energy (even with liquids and Proteins in). Are you feeling blah too?

  6. I have found it EXTREMELY difficult to eat slow as well as drinking slowly. Plus also taking small bites. I try but seems like it only works part of the time. I still haven't "learned" to do this even with the discomfort. I'm feeling a bit un-normal when I can eat and drink much faster than I'm supposed to. Im trying to un-learn my old habits and learn new ones but when one has been eating and drinking like this for over 30 years it is a big challenge for me. I'm able to drink an ounce of liquid in a minute..I totally feel like I'm the only one that is doing this and I'm not even 3 weeks out. I feel like I'm already failing..

Is anyone else having this issue?

  7. Thank you everyone for your info. As I am barely 2 1/2 weeks post op and I'm really having a hard time finding drinks that taste good. I bought some that were called 'Oh Yeah' I thought the Cookies and cream one would be good but, wow, it is gross! The strawberries and cream one was a bit better but not by much. Gonna try and mix them with other things like Greek yogurt and Protein Shake from costco to make them drinkable.

Also I bought some of the 'new whey' Protein shots...I don't know about any of you but I think I would probably puke if I had 3 sips of it. I've only tasted the fruit punch one. Gonna return the other 3 flavors...

Anyhow, thank you for the info guys! If you have any other suggestions and info it IS grately appreciated.

  8. [quote name="Lisa :)]I drink Premier Protein shakes from costco and pour them over ice to make them really cold. I also really like the Syntrax nectar Cappucinno over ice and' date=' to me, it tastes just like an iced coffee. Most of the nectar products don't have a Protein aftertaste. Also, Power Crunch bars taste just like a cookie....they are wafers so they are light and crispy.

You really have to try several different products until you find what you like. Everyone has such different taste preferences so what I think is really good, you may not. A lot of bariatric sites (i.e. Bariatric Pantry) offer sample packs so that you can try various products. I've also learned that I do best when I stick to one particular Protein Drink and bar because then I become used to the taste which helps me stick with it.

Good Luck and don't give up on finding something you like!!![/quote']

I agree with you the Protein Shakes from costco taste really good. I'm still on liquids and super, super soft mushy foods. I will have to check out the Nector products (hope we carry those in my area). Thanks for the info! :)

  9. Hi I'm a newbie also. First day on here and my surgery was on 2/15/12. I been having problems with the puréed foods (they are just nasty!) and would rather be on the liquid diet! However cottage cheese goes down real good!

I have been feeling sick and nauseated. Not sure why but could be from my liquid Multivitamin. I think this might be just part of what i have to go through. They say everyone is different.

I can't believe how much weight u have already lost. I think I have lost about 20 so far.

Let me know how you are feeling and how you are doing. Take cake!
